Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

Are you interested in directing the development and implementation of a new and exciting strategic initiative for the Texas A&M University Libraries? As the Director of the OpenEd program, you will have the opportunity to impact student success by building initiatives that will reduce course materials costs and promote open pedagogy. We are seeking an individual with a strategic mindset and leadership background to oversee the Libraries’ support of Open Educational Resources (OER) and strengthening of the organization's capacity to support OER publishing (e.g. Pressbooks, OER repositories, etc.). In addition, the Director will lead expansion of the Libraries’ OER efforts through system, state, and national groups. Opportunities to Contribute:

Lead advocacy efforts of no or low-cost solutions for course materials with faculty and campus stakeholders
Direct and develop assessment metrics and reports for reporting the University Libraries’ impact on course affordability and ensuring compliance with state and national guidelines and best practices
Provide consultations, develop partnerships, and inform campus leadership and faculty on emerging trends in legislative compliance in higher education around OER and course materials affordability
Collaborate with campus assessment offices on analyzing institutional effectiveness with student completion of courses using OER texts
Build a team and provide feedback and coaching to staff and direct hiring, training, and staff development
Expand program services to match campus and student needs
Guide course reserve activities in alignment with course materials affordability initiatives
Participate in scholarly activities and professional service for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree
Ten years related experience in a public, academic, or specialized library or archive

A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

Knowledge of open education initiatives and higher education textbook market, open licensing, and/or digital publishing
Ability to manage, plan, and organize overall unit and operations
Knowledge of academic library functions
Ability to communicate with all levels of customers and employees
Conflict resolution skills
Knowledge of copyright and open licensing issues in higher education
Knowledge of digital publishing platforms (Pressbooks, etc.)
Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and/or content management systems (CMS) (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, D-Space, etc.)
Knowledge of academic library functions, including course reserves
Professional contribution to the field of Library Science

Minimum starting salary: $8,665 per month
