PSM CONSULTANT
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Nexus Refrigeration is currently seeking an PSM Consultant. This position will focus on the Process Safety Management (PSM) and code compliance of large scale industrial refrigeration systems which use ammonia as the refrigerant. Process Safety Management is an integral part of the overall safety program of industrial plants to protect the employees, environment, and surrounding communities. Nexus Refrigeration takes pride in knowing that we are making a difference. Most of our clients are found in the food and beverage industry ranging from large distribution to processing, blast freezing, and cold storage warehousing. This is an exciting opportunity to join our company on the ground floor and be part of our growing team, working very closely with the owners on a daily basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work closely with Nexus team members to perform inspections of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
· Assist with detailed refrigeration system inspections for mechanical integrity, safety and code compliance, and write the associated reports
· Assist health, safety, and environmental personnel as well as maintenance and utilities managers to perform duties as mandated by their Process Safety Management programs (PSM) driven by OSHA/EPA regulations
· Write components of the PSM programs such as MOCs and various reports
· Assist with PHAs, Compliance Audits, and drawing mark ups
· Deliver written reports and interface with our customers as required
· Work to develop knowledge of industry codes and standards
· Travel to job sites for information gathering, system inspections, and customer meetings
· Support and collaborate with end users, general contractors, and refrigeration contractors throughout the lifecycle of a project
· This position is based out of the home office in Norfolk, VA
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
· The majority of our business is located in approximately 10 states across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast US with occasional travel throughout the country
· Approximately 25% travel is required. All travel expenses are paid for or reimbursed by the company.
· Travel schedule is primarily determined by the employee in advance, but would typically be alternating time in the field and home.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Developing foundation in principles of refrigeration
· Developing knowledge of all components of Process Safety Management
· Strong computer skills and proficient with all Microsoft Office products
· Strong proficiency with Excel for reports and tracking documents
· Highly self-motivated with a passion for learning and growth
· Analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience in APSM on-line software is a plus
· Experience working with and/or writing Process Safety Management (PSM) documents
· Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) experience
· Strong desire to pursue RETA certifications
· Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) certification is a plus
· Drafting experience is a plus
· Strong networking skills and a desire to participate in industry associations

PYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Lift up to 50 lbs.
· Climb ladders, stairs, and platforms
· Comfortable using scissor lifts and/or other aerial lifts to access equipment
· Exposure to extreme cold temperatures down to -20 degrees F in refrigerated areas
· Comfortable in loud machine rooms requiring hearing protection
