The Paramedic is responsible for responding to emergency medical calls, providing on-site aid, and transporting patients safely to medical facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administer first aid and emergency medical care to ill or injured individuals in prehospital settings.
Drive the ambulance to locations specified by the emergency dispatcher.
Upon arrival on scene, coordinate with other first responders including fire department personnel, facility medical staff and other emergency medical team members.
Assess the presentation of illness or injury to prioritize medical treatment.
Immobilize patients with a backboard or neck brace before placement on a stretcher or in an ambulance.
Transport injured or sick patients to appropriate medical facilities in an ambulance or mobile intensive care unit.
Supervise non-paramedic crew members.
Operate life support equipment such as bag valve mask resuscitators, electrocardiograms (EKGs), external defibrillators, IV pumps and ventilators.
Carry out diagnostic and emergency treatment procedures during ambulance transport, including airway management, heart monitoring, full patient assessment hemorrhage control, suctioning, fluid resuscitation, CPR, medication administration per approved medical direction listed in SuperiorCare Ambulance Standing Delegated Orders.
Provide comfort and reassurance to patients.
Observe the patient’s condition; record treatment details as well as the patient’s response to treatment; report to physician upon arrival at hospital, provide all incident documentation in SuperiorCare’s approved ePCR software completed by the end of crew’s service time, or within 24 hours of recorded incident.
Communicate with treatment center personnel regarding relevant details about the situation along with patient vital signs and medical history.
Sanitize the interior of the ambulance and equipment used for treatment following each transport of a patient.
Maintain emergency vehicles, communication equipment, and medical equipment; notify supervisors of malfunctions and restocking needs.
Collaborate with interested parties (police, firefighting unit, doctors, etc.)
Write and submit concrete and accurate reports on incidents. These ePCR reports will be completed and submitted at the end of your operating shift.
Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards.
Keep abreast with new treatment and medical procedures through continuous training
Perform other duties as assigned.

After each call, the EMT-B with assistance from other crew member

Restocks and replaces used linens, blankets and other supplies.
Cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures.
Makes careful check of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next run.
Maintains ambulance in efficient operating condition.
Ensures that the ambulance is clean and washed and kept in a neat orderly condition.
In accordance with local, state or federal regulations, decontaminates the interior of the vehicle after transport of patient with contagious infection or hazardous materials exposure.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Current certification from Texas Department of Health as a Texas EMT Paramedic.
Current Advanced Cardia Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
Maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must possess the ability to lift, carry and balance 100 pounds (200 pounds with assistance).
Must be able to bend, stoop, climb steps or crawl across uneven terrain in a timely manner.
Must be able to work in high stress situations in which you might encounter: Environments with flashing lights and loud noises.
