The position serves in the overall function and operation of the plating department on a daily basis by performing the following duties. Safety, production, and quality are all primary responsibilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment facilities and systems.
- Monitors the performance of all equipment, gauges and charts in the treatment area.
- Ensures that ell statistical data concerning daily wastewater operations has been recorded.
- Maintains, operates, repairs or replaces gauges, pumps, filters and other controls and equipment as necessary.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs malfunctions at the wastewater treatment area.
- Maintains, modifies, or repairs instrumentation and control equipment; including recorders, flow meters, and other water quality monitoring equipment as necessary.
- Operates pumps and valves to control and adjust flow and treatment process.
- Charts lab test results for trend analysis and maintains accurate records of analyses and test results.
- Evaluates data and writes reports as required.
- Collects samples and identifies concentrations of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of wastewater through wet chemistry analytical procedures and instrumental analysis required in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Performs quality control tests (i.e. jar tests) and/or lab analyses and must be able to read and understand laboratory tests conducted in a wastewater treatment area. Evaluates procedures and results for accuracy and determines appropriate methods
- Assures that plant operates within required standards.
- Provides back-up to related positions.
- May train other operators in lab methods and procedures to assure accuracy of test results.
- Responsible for the completion of any departmental documentation, internal and external, as necessary.
- Provides instruction and gives direction to Wastewater Operator(s), in regard to daily wastewater treatment processing operations to maintain compliance.
- Manage inventory of wastewater treatment and laboratory supplies.
- Performs stormwater inspections of facility, campus, and outfalls.
- Inspects and maintains spill response equipment and supplies.
- Ensures compliance with hazardous waste management regulations. Manages and inspects hazardous waste satellite accumulation and storage areas. Ability to profile hazardous wastes. Coordinates shipments of hazardous materials. Prepares end signs shipping manifests. Obtains and maintains RCRA and DOT certifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current Industrial Waste Water, Class 3 or higher Wastewater License is required. Must be able to keep certifications current.
- Experience with the treatment of metals in waste water effluent are highly desirable.
