Duties

THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION

The primary purpose of the IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC), GS-2210-12, is to provide expertise in cybersecurity policy and process development; conducting audits to validate compliance; responsible for the risk management framework and ensures systems are operated and maintained AR 25-2 and all applicable command, DA, JS and DOD security directives and procedures.

Assigns studies and program development to team members or analysts. Technically reviews completed work projects and provides technical assistance and guidance. Certifies work accomplishment, reviews and approves requests for payments. Provides assistance, advice and guidance to organizational users, both in the administrative and technical areas, concerning the use of the multiple database management systems available for use.
Maintains an operational knowledge base of past, current and possible future threats to the security posture by attending courses, conferences, seminars, online research, and information sharing between other Cyber Security/Information Security professionals. Devises and implement new policies and procedures to prevent or react to security concerns.
Coordinates with Program Information System Security Managers and Organizational Information System Security Officer at other locations to verify or clarify information pertinent to cybersecurity/Information Assurance procedures. Has program oversight responsibility for the Installation Campus Area Network (ICAN)/Local Area Network (LAN) Certification and Accreditation (C&A).
Ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of systems and networks by planning, analyzing, developing, and implementing information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.

The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.

May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.

This is an Information Security Workforce position. Selectee must meet position requirements for certification at Level II in Information Assurance Management (IAM-II) within 6 months or less of appointment to this position. Certification requirements may be found in DoD 8570.01-M Information Security Workforce Improvement Program.
All certifications are required within 6 month of employment.

Qualifications

IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC), GS-2210-12: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: Experience serving as an Information Technology Specialist providing Cybersecurity for a state National Guard headquarters; Experience operating within the DoD, Army and JS security procedures, operations, and practices; Experience ensuring systems are operated and maintained within DOD security directives and procedures; Experience utilizing extensive knowledge of all areas of automation security to establish operating standards and procedures for the installation Information Security Program; Experience coordinating requirements with the responsible personnel and tracks suspense for completing required actions and reports virus problems in accordance with established procedures.
