Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial, federal, and institutional construction projects. This role supports projects across Alaska, Hawaii, and international locations, requiring strong knowledge of construction practices, remote logistics, and global project considerations. The Estimator works closely with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and leadership to develop pricing strategies that align with company goals and contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimating & Proposal Development

Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects including civil, vertical, design-build, and MEP scopes.
Analyze drawings, specifications, RFPs, and contract documents to determine project requirements.
Develop quantity takeoffs and pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work as well as others.
Solicit, evaluate, and establish subcontractor and supplier quotes and agreements to ensure competitive and complete pricing.
Assist in preparing technical and price proposals for federal, state, commercial, and international bids.

Federal & International Contracting Compliance

Interpret and apply federal contracting requirements (e.g., FAR, Davis-Bacon, certified payroll considerations).
Support preparation of bids for agencies such as U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command among others.
Ensure estimates align with contract scope, specifications, and compliance standards, including applicable international codes, laws and regulations.
Assist in development of cost narratives and supporting documentation for proposals, REAs, and international submissions.

Project Coordination

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams during preconstruction and bidding phases.
Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and scope reviews when required, including national, and international travel as needed.
Provide handoff documentation and support to project teams upon award.

Alaska, Hawaii & Global Logistics Considerations

Account for remote and international project conditions, including transportation, mobilization, customs, import/export requirements, and geopolitical, and natural factors.
Develop cost strategies for material procurement, international shipping, duties, tariffs, and labor availability in remote, island, and overseas locations.
Evaluate risks related to foreign labor laws, currency fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and regional construction practices.

Cost Analysis & Value Engineering

Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative construction methods.
Perform risk analysis and contingency planning for domestic and international estimates.
Maintain historical cost data and unit pricing databases, including global cost benchmarks where applicable.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3–7+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in federal, commercial, or international projects.
Experience working with projects in Alaska, Hawaii, or overseas locations strongly preferred.
The candidate must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, Excel, Plan Swift, and similar).
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building systems (civil, structural, MEP).
Familiarity with project management and document control systems (e.g., RMS, Procore,eCMS).
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and international standards.

Other Requirements

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
Ability to adapt communication and leadership style to effectively engage diverse teams.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with SBA 8(a) contracting environments.
Knowledge of estimating for international federal projects (e.g., U.S. Embassy, DoD overseas work).
Familiarity with IDIQ/SATOC contracts.
OSHA 30 or equivalent international safety certification.

Work Environment

Combination of office-based and remote work depending on project needs.
Travel to project sites may include remote, austere, and international environments.
Fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent deadlines.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
