Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) envisions a world where children are safe, families are strong, and communities are vibrant.

LSF is looking for a talented Development and Community Relations Specialist who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.

Bilingual (English and Spanish) required.

Purpose and Impact:

The Development & Community Relations Specialist serves as a primary contact for LSF’s community relations and development program at the Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services location helping to facilitate its success. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Development for development activities and has a dotted line report to the Program Director at the assigned location for all community engagement work. This role requires self-motivation and a willingness to manage multiple responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

Development

Works with the Development Team to create and implement fundraising strategies for the acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship of donors at all levels.
Coordinates donor marketing such as giving campaigns, direct mail solicitations, and online fundraising efforts.
Prepares content for websites, online platforms, newsletters and eblasts to engage constituents and lead to donations and prospect lead generation.
Identifies and prepares a program needs list for the assigned program location.
In collaboration with LSF Development leadership and local program staff, manages the planning and execution of local advisory board meetings, fundraising events, donor receptions and related activities.
Designs and implements a strategy of cultivation tours to provide visitors with meaningful and personal first-hand experiences of our program.
Coordinates relationships with individual donors, plans donor stewardship activities, and ensures donor satisfaction and engagement.
Conducts research and prepares profiles on donors and prospects to determine the propensity and capacity to give.
Directly connects with donors and prospects to establish and strengthen relationships.
Ensures accurate record-keeping of all program-specific donors and prospects utilizing LSF Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software.

Community Relations

Works with the LSF program leadership and the LSF Development and Communications teams to create and implement an annual community engagement plan that creates awareness of and engagement with the assigned location.
Plans and coordinates community events, meetings, workshops, and other gatherings to facilitate dialogue, information sharing, and community building.
Builds relationships with community members, organizations, and other stakeholders to create partnerships and collaborations that support the organization's goals.
Works with volunteers to support the program’s engagement efforts and activities.
Works closely with various internal teams within the organization to integrate community perspectives into decision-making processes, program development, and evaluation.
Maintains accurate records of community engagement activities, outcomes, and feedback, and prepares regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Keeps up to date with community issues, trends, and best practices in community engagement, and shares relevant information and resources with community members and colleagues.

Other Functions

Shares program success stories and innovations for communication through print, media, and digital platforms in coordination with the LSF teams.
Coordinates all design work for printed materials, signage, and event banners with the communications team to ensure brand consistency.

Education / Certifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required, but direct experience can offset educational requirement.
A degree in business, marketing, communications or a related field is preferred.
CFRE desired.

Experience:

3+ years of directly related community relations and/or development experience required.
Experience required in fundraising prospect research/management, database analytics, donor cultivation and solicitation, and fundraising principles and operations.

Skills:

Bilingual (English and Spanish) required.
Effective communication skills, with proficiency in writing, editing, digital marketing and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality including the ability to receive feedback and take action when appropriate.
Proficiency in CRM databases, donor software, peer-to-peer platforms and development research tools such as Donor Search or Wealth Engine.
Highly organized and detail oriented. Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects simultaneously.
Ability to handle confidential financial and personal information with discretion and sensitivity.
Good decision making, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
Proficient research and interviewing skills.
High energy level and self-motivation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Principle Accountabilities

Manage all donor development activities.
Lead community engagement efforts to increase brand awareness, identify strategic partners, and increase donor potential.

Other:

Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the following physical activities: constant hearing/ visual acuity. Frequent sitting, talking in person, and talking on the phone. Occasional walking, driving, standing and stretching/reaching. Work is performed in office, community, and social settings.
