Our client is looking for a full-time, remote Social Media Manager with 5+ years experience and a passion for content creation to join us in building an online movement to unlock our mission.

Americans are losing faith in democracy – especially young people. The rigged, two party system has turned Independent into a dirty word to make voters trapped between voting for the lesser of two evils or wasting their vote on an alternative. Whether you’re concerned about the climate, privacy, inequality, or our individual freedoms, solutions are held back by the dark doom-loop of dysfunctional partisan politics.

We recognize that Independent and 3rd party candidates lack the resources to be viable against Republicans and Democrats, even though a majority of Americans are Independent. In fact, a majority of eligible voters (over 130M Americans), including more than half of Millennials and Gen Z, say that neither Republicans, nor Democrats represent them…but they keep getting elected!

Our solution is to provide candidates who take our pledge with cutting-edge tech tools to win, without selling out to the Democrats or Republicans. We are building a community to end the corrupt two party system and then harnessing that community’s collective power to elect the most promising independents around the country. By leveraging social media and creators, we’re making our mission to make people matter more than money mainstream.

What you'll do:

Rapidly grow the organic following and viewership of our content on all social media platforms, with particular emphasis on Instagram (currently 1k+ followers) and TikTok (currently 75k+ followers).
Own and develop our social media strategy. Oversee content production toward that strategy. To start, spend ~30% of your time creating content.
Directly manage and coach our small team of content creating interns, manage relationships with contractor content creators and agencies, and in the future support volunteer creators in spreading our mission.
Test and learn with content styles, mediums, topics, AI tools, and more – success in this role looks like an iterative approach to social media.
Generate new users from organic social media activities for our products and programs. These users fall into three different groups which you will have to prioritize: candidates, volunteers, and subscribers.
Create and maintain a content calendar and system that produces reliable and timely content. Maintain and improve production quality of content.
Develop serialized content for each of our major channels.
Work closely with our Marketing, Mobilization, and Design teams to establish an engaging brand presence on our socials, plus develop and support multi-channel marketing efforts.
Report to Marketing Manager as early team member

Who we're looking for:

You’re up for the audacious challenge of transforming our democracy for Good.
You have 5+ years of experience managing social media accounts and creating content. You’ve managed a social account with at least 20-30k followers and a highly engaged audience. Please still apply if you’ve managed accounts between 5-20k followers with demonstrably excellent engagement results.
You have expertise in our main social channels, including TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. You’re an active TikTok user and/or you’ve managed a TikTok account.
You're motivated to create content for a diverse audience (across political ideologies, identities, and locations), whether it's due to your strong interest in this domain, past volunteer work, or previous paid experience in related fields.
You’ve created political or cause-based content professionally or on your personal socials. You understand the unique challenges of making and spreading content for a cause (e.g. politics, an issue you care about, nonprofit social media, activism, etc.).
You have strong interest, creative ideas, and some experience utilizing the latest cutting edge generative AI tools for content creation support and scaling production.
You’re a skilled doer who’s game to spin up a piece of content yourself and learn through results-oriented experimentation. You’re also ready to coach by offering useful guidance, edits, and feedback to junior team members, contractor creators, and volunteers. You’re excited to use your experience to develop others.
You love being chronically online. You spend your days scrolling social media, switching from feed to feed, and keeping your finger on the pulse of the latest trends and memes. You have experience driving a content creation process from start to finish – from brainstorming to creating content to planning content calendars and using a social media management tool to automate its execution. You’ve got good taste and can collaborate with Design to ensure aesthetics are on point.
You’re a memorable verbal and written communicator. You love figuring out the most coherent and compelling story that will spread a brand or mission. You can write effective, attention-grabbing copy for social media.
You know or are ready to get to know who the political players are in the social media space and figure out what works best to motivate our audiences to take action. You have strong instincts around social media news cycles and exercise good judgment on when and what to engage with to further our mission and elevate our brand.
You thrive working at startup speed. Our solution is desperately needed and the issues of our time are all bottlenecked by our corrupted democracy.

You have experience studying, working, or volunteering in politics, political activism, or democracy reform.

The salary range is $55,000 - $90,000 (commensurate with experience) for this remote, full-time position with excellent benefits. We reserve the right to modify this pay range at any time. We are not considering candidates currently based outside of the US, so please only apply if you are physically located in the US.
