EXTENDED DAY FOR LEARNING PLUS (EDL PLUS), PARAPROFESSIONAL, ELEMENTARY

General Information

Applications are now being accepted from qualified staff for part-time hourly Paraprofessional positions for the 2022-23 school year in Saint Paul Public Schools Department of Alternative Education (DAE) Extended Day for Learning PLUS (EDL Plus) programs. Locations vary throughout the SPPS District.

EDL Plus programs run October – May and offer academic support and applied academic courses after school. For program information, including dates, times, locations, and FAQs go to www.spps.org/alted.

Reporting Relationship

Report to Site Administrator, EDL Plus Licensed Site Leader, EDL Plus Site Coordinator, and/or DAE Assistant Director.

Qualifications

Hold a current SPPS Paraprofessional position-EA or TA.
An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, OR
- Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a Bachelor’s degree, with courses related to education or other related field, OR
- Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND either a high school diploma or a GED certificate. (For more information on the ParaPro Assessment, contact Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476 or www.ets.org/parapro)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff.
Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness and understanding.
Lifting may be required for some Paraprofessional positions.
Responsible work and attendance ethic.

Responsibilities

Work in classrooms assisting teachers with students.
Prepare and assemble materials for teachers.
Provide general office help, may include attendance entry into CAMPUS.
Assist with student transportation including walking lines, adult pickup, and/or bus loading after EDL dismissal.
Attend all required training and meetings.
Other duties as assigned by the EDL Plus Licensed Site Leader/EDL Plus Non-Licensed Site Coordinator, Site Administrator, or DAE staff.

Conditions of Employment

Employment offers are for the current EDL Plus session only.
Paraprofessionals are expected to work the entire EDL Plus session.
Employment in the EDL Plus program is at will.

Compensation & Hours

Compensation for paraprofessionals is at their current SPPS hourly rate as specified in the labor agreement with Saint Paul Public Schools.
Paraprofessionals will be compensated based on staffing allocations, per site. Full time: 1.75 hours per session; Part time: 1 hour per session.
Additional compensation for walking lines/bus aides will be based on actual student contact time in 0.25 hour increments, pending approval from the DAE Assistant Director.
Overtime hours must be approved by the DAE Assistant Director.
Compensation for training is at the contracted workshop rate of pay specified in the labor agreement with the Saint Paul Public Schools.
All EDL Plus employees are paid biweekly.

Inclement Weather or Other Cancellations

Extended Day for Learning Plus (EDL Plus) staff are paid only for hours worked on days the program is in session.

Other Information

Criminal Background Investigation - Criminal Background investigation will be completed as a condition of hire for all new employees and for former employees who have not been employed by the District for more than six months.
