The Director of Product Technology will lead design engineering teams in developing and facilitating product & technology strategy and setting engineering direction for the development of new technology products and improvement and/or maintenance of current designs. This position is also responsible for providing superior technical, solutions delivered through integrated clinical products, electrical hardware development, embedded software development, user interface design, and customer facing web connected products & services.
Responsibilities & Duties

Develops and executes a strategic portfolio of solutions through embedded firmware, electrical hardware, software development, integrated clinical products, user interface design, web development, as well as data analytics and services that provide a superior and differentiated customer experience

Assures new technology solutions achieve customer value and quality goals in a timely manner. Provides oversight over software and electrical architecture design and development methodology to assure robustness and extensibility of software/electrical platform to support future capabilities.

Develops and maintains a three year technology roadmap, to include electrical, software and integrated clinical products, with planned releases, coordinated with other product development roadmaps. Collaborates with leaders at all levels within the company to assure alignment.

Keeps current with emerging technologies and technology development methodologies; assures leadership and staff have the necessary talent and skills to perform at a high level

Manages, supports, and provides leadership and direction to multiple groups of Design Managers, Design Engineers and Principal Architects.

Recruits and builds a talented engineering organization with strong design capabilities and high learning agility.

Develops, mentors, and builds strong teams, leading these teams to high levels of performance.

Establishes and maintains an effective engineering culture that compliments and supports the A-dec culture and excellent engineering performance.

Responsible for making substantial contributions to successful product strategies by participating in strategic planning, leading the Technology organization to develop innovative technologies and achieve product development plans.

Partners primarily with Product Management, Engineering Management, and Manufacturing to develop strategic product plans and solutions for both current and future needs.

Achieves required product performance levels while meeting quality, cost, schedule and manufacturability targets.

Leads the organization to envision and propose new innovations and applications of technology.

Leads the organization to accomplish planned technical research projects.

Supports external and internal customers to identify needs and maintain current designs with quality, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory improvements.

Reviews and approves annual budgets, capital requests, resource requests, and project proposals and evaluates progress of projects, and recommends procedural changes when necessary.

Provides technical analysis and recommendations to executive leadership, serving as the champion for electrical, software, and clinical technical strategic decisions.

Actively participates in relevant external and/or professional organizations to establish a professional network for serving company interests and the broader dental community.

Provides guidance on the assessment and management of intellectual property.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or other relevant discipline along with at least 10 years of experience in research, development, or product development, including at least 5 years in a management role.

Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and experienced in technical analysis, technical writing, and complex problem solving.

Ability to manage a vision and think strategically, plan and organize, innovate, analyze complex data and situations, and exercise sound judgment. Must also have the ability to communicate that vision, motivate employees, create effective teams, and build peer relationships.

Ability to clearly assess, articulate, and manage risk with a sense of urgency to meet product requirements on schedule and on budget. Must also have the ability to see the big picture, prepare contingency plans, and ensure execution of plans through effective organizational awareness.

Must be highly skilled in communication, public speaking, and relationship management.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field of Engineering or Science.

At least 15 years of experience in research and development or product development, including 5-7 years in a management role.

Experience in the medical device industry and/or medical device field experience.

Hardware and/or software architecture design experience

Data management and analytics experience
