The Role
Head of Commercial PC Engineering
The Head of Commercial PC Engineering is responsible for leading a large global Engineering Service organization responsible for the end-to-end product development of Personal Computing devices, innovative customer experiences and unique enterprise solutions for HP. The ideal candidate is an expert in global product development, engineering roadmap management, partner relations, operational excellence, and customer experience. An executive who challenges the ordinary and seeks to innovate while also balancing execution. They prioritize well, communicate clearly, have a consistent track record of delivery, they are quality and customer-obsessed, and have an established background in developing scalable technical products. The candidate identifies opportunities that can positively impact business strategy, the behavior of key partners, competitors and/or customers within a business, contributes to the direction of the industry, and has a major revenue impact on the business.
Key responsibilities:

Provide leadership to the Commercial PC Engineering organization, maintaining a diverse, dynamic, highly motivated team with outstanding competencies in the company's core technologies and processes.

Own and be accountable for new product development, sustaining software and hardware engineering, product cost reductions, hardware quality validation and certification, and customer escalations.

Drive standard methodologies across the development process, simplifying and enhancing the engineering development processes with a focus on quality and time to market.

Create a culture of continuous improvement, raising the bar on product quality and development efficiency.

Oversee the implementation of platform architecture roadmaps for all current and future products (SW and HW).

Stay abreast of and have a plan to incorporate relevant market innovations into HP’s product roadmap.

Work with your engineering peers to create a ‘one-team’ work environment, with shared best practices and a high level of collaboration.

Work closely with Product and Program Management to define new products and software roadmaps and their associated development and delivery schedules.

Understand changing business needs and advocate for proactive investment (architecture changes, refactoring, etc.) to maintain optimal delivery velocity without sacrificing quality.

Work with supply chain to optimize chipset, platform and vendor strategy.

Strategically manage and optimize engineering budgets to achieve objectives and align with product management priorities. Leverage offshore and 3rd party partners to optimize the cost of product development and software delivery.

Own organizational health, succession planning and talent management

Provide regular updates to Executive Management, Peers and your engineering organization
Education and Experience Required
-
Bachelor's, Master's or PHD degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

Minimum 20 years engineering experience with at least 10+ years people management with time served in a technology company

A proven and progressive track record of success as a leader including experience in managing and inspiring distributed teams in multiple time zones

Strong management skills demonstrated through effective implementation and use of team approach, systems agile development methodology and processes, business strategies and planning

Proven leadership skills demonstrated through effective communication of direction, motivating team members and providing continuous feedback
Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrates an understanding of the global market, industry and multiple technologies as well as the company’s financial structure.

Excellent Business and Financial Acumen
-
Experience in manufacturing complex embedded devices involving multiple manufacturing & component vendors collaborating on a single project.

Knowledge of consumer product development life cycles (direct PC experience preferred).

Exceptional Communications and Collaboration Skills with Business and Sales Partners; Manufacturing and Silicon Vendors and Suppliers, Service Organizations

Familiarity & experience with designing products meeting Accessibility and Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) requirements.

The ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

Knowledge of software best practices including Lean, Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, Cloud computing

Proven leadership skills demonstrated through effective communication of direction, motivating team members, and providing continuous feedback.

Experience with long term resource planning and forecasting based on product planning

Experience ramping up and managing third party test sites along with in house resources

Clear understanding of an embedded device manufacturing process, certification & regulatory processes, country compliance inclusive of knowledge of the various radio / wireless requirements.
