Insights About This Role
EVgo is at a pivotal moment in its growth: scaling rapidly with the electrification of transportation. We expect to grow our fast-charging stalls by 10 times to keep up with demand, and our customer counts are projected to grow by 1,000 times just within our retail vertical. This will not be possible without investing more resources and improving our capability to develop best-in-class charging products, or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and technologies that will improve the consumer experience and reliability of our charging networks.
With this level of growth come challenges—a suite of product and service providers with different capabilities that need to seamlessly integrate into our networks as well as with a growing ecosystem of partners such as vehicle OEMs, manned and autonomous ride-share providers, software platforms network providers; a young team still developing its collective experience within increasing demands and small global talent pool; and the need to source/develop new products while simultaneously improving existing ones. The SVP/VP of Charging Products will be responsible for coming up with solutions to these challenges while also smoothly addressing multiple verticals, supporting the growth ambitions of cross-functional teams, sourcing/developing new products, and running the EVgo Innovation Lab.
The EVgo Innovation Lab located in El Segundo, CA was founded in 2021 and is the nexus of multiple critical charging product activities including sourcing/developing, testing, validating, and certifying charging products (and various sub-assemblies and components) to deliver the product performance, reliability, and customer experience expected of EVgo; interoperability testing of electric vehicles (EVs) and EVgo’s charging products to further ensure and enhance the customer experience by discovering and remediating any incompatibilities before EVs come to market; developing, testing, and validating key elements of charging station designs. The lab has been so successful that there are now several remote elements of the lab embedded within EV OEM manufacturers and testers enabling even earlier interoperability testing and validation of EVs and EVSEs. This role is located at the EVgo Innovation Lab.
This role reports to the EVgo CTO, Ivo Steklac, and works closely with critical executives in technology, operations, business development, policy, and finance to ensure EVgo’s charging products are best of breed in terms of performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness and seamlessly integrated within the EVgo networks and solutions. The right candidate will bring leadership and management experience in product management, electrical and mechanical engineering, product development, and overall technology and business chops to the table and is comfortable being a key player in an industry that has massive growth and impact.
The SVP Charging Products Charter

Own all aspects of product management and sourcing/development across all EVgo market segments. Drive overall charging product strategy, design, and sourcing/development of EVSEs, subassemblies, components, and underlying processes and tools for new product introduction, competitive sourcing, product certification, and continuous refinement and support. Serve as a trusted advisor, shaping market and product strategy, making tough trade-off decisions, and handling internal and external negotiations.

Grow, manage, and mature the EVgo charging products team. The SVP/VP will manage and grow the team effectively and judiciously providing maximum return on investment and working cross-functionally with all dependent stakeholders. The team currently consists of product management, electrical and mechanical engineers, a supplier quality engineer, a station designer, and a lab technician.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

Adhere to the timeline of expectations
-
Within three months, become an SME in EV Charging and related domains.

Within six months, manage day-to-day operations and contribute to strategic discussions.

Within 12 months, lead those strategic discussions and plot out the future strategy of the company.

Ensure performance and reliability of all charging products and integration of products within EVgo systems.

Maintain and refine compliance of all charging products externally concerning industry standards and policy requirements, and internally concerning revenue assurance and required standards of practice.

Support broad transportation ecosystem, including existing and future EVgo market segments and solutions while ensuring the customer experience is the best in class.

Refine and optimize processes to improve the efficiency and throughput of the team. Develop, track, and report metrics targets and actuals to support EVgo’s data-driven analytic decision-making culture.

Develop ancillary products and services to grow EVgo’s revenue and margin in addition to charging.
Critical Selection Criteria

Technical foundation in Electrical Engineering (BSc minimum) plus product development and management experience in power electronics and embedded software.

10 years of product development and management experience; 5 years at the supervisory level of Sr. Director or VP.

For job positions in CA, CO, and NYC, the estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $259,000 to $290,000 USD. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition to a competitive base salary, discretionary target cash bonus, and restricted stock units (subject to Board Approval).
