Full Job Description

The California Department of Public Health is currently hiring for a Stationary Engineer within the Engineering Section. As a member of our team you will play a crucial role in supporting the Richmond Campus in the operations, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, ventilation, lighting, power, water, water treatment, and other mechanical systems.

We’re looking for someone with a strong mechanical aptitude, technical know-how, and a commitment to safety. Your expertise will contribute to a safe and efficient working environment, with a focus on preventative maintenance and timely repairs.

NOTE: This classification is eligible for a recruitment and retention pay differential for the Greater Bay Area at 5% above the base rate for each qualifying pay period.

Responsibilities:

· Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as inspecting, cleaning, and repairing equipment and machinery.

· Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure the longevity of facilities and equipment.

· Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, or plumbing issues.

· Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.

· Collaborate with other team members to address and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.

· Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment inspections.

· Source and order necessary supplies and replacement parts.

· Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols during maintenance procedures.

· Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment.

· Stay informed about advancements in maintenance techniques and technologies.

Desirable Qualifications:

· EPA Section 608 Technician Certification Universal/Refrigerant certification (training provided).

· Proven experience as a stationary engineer, maintenance technician or a similar role.

· Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.

· Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

· Attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintenance tasks.

· Effective communication and teamwork skills.

· Basic computer skills for record-keeping and communication purposes.
