Overview
The College of Engineering at Utah State University seeks an experienced grant writer/proposal developer (Grant Writer III) to assist in the college and university mission of research. Incumbents will work with various faculty across the College of Engineering in multiple departments to develop and submit large, multidisciplinary, and multi-collaborative grant proposals to a wide range of funding agencies and organizations, including both public and private external entities and internal USU funding sources. Successful candidates will work closely with the Vice President for Research, Sponsored Programs, faculty, and administration. This position will report to the Associate Dean for the College of Engineering and work closely with other proposal development staff within the college.

Responsibilities
-
Prepares and helps submit grant proposals in a timely manner, working collaboratively with the other proposal development staff (which includes another proposal developer and a coordinator), Principal Investigators, SPO, IRB, Business Services, and Compliance Officers as necessary.

Researches and identifies potential individual, state, corporate, federal and foundation funding sources.

Coordinates, gathers, maintains, and disseminates materials and information to support grant writing by faculty.

Networks with other grant personnel to help identify potential grant opportunities.

Work with Associate Dean for Research, Financial Officer, Business Services, and other departments, to gather information as well as report to funders on current grant programs

Maintains accurate and timely records of research activities; funding logs and reporting deadlines; and grant funding resource materials and publications.

Monitors program compliance for continuity as related to contract/grant administration.

Provides faculty with professional development training in areas related to preparation of grant proposals. Develops and presents instructional materials.

Edits material for structure, completeness, accuracy, consistency, and appropriateness of content, as well as grammar and readability; and meet funding agency deadlines for submission.

Acts on behalf of the principal investigator to resolve complex and/or sensitive issues related to the development of the proposal.

Additional duties related to proposal development assigned by the Dean, Associate Dean, or Financial Officer.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus four (4) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent written communication skills.

Excellent knowledge of grant processes and practices.

Must be well organized and have a detail-oriented approach.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proven experience with a range of small to large grant/proposal development which resulted in funding through governmental (federal, state, other) and private entities/organizations.

Demonstrated knowledge of various funding agencies (NSF, DOD, DOE, etc.) and their respective requirements and submission portals.
-
Strong people skills and ability to work closely and collaboratively with faculty, SPO, funding agencies, and other proposal development staff.
-
Knowledge of funding and federal programs and submission deadlines.
-
Knowledge of laws, regulations, agency requirements, and emerging conditions relevant to grants development.

Knowledge and understanding of proposal and grant writing procedures and requirements.
-
Skilled at database management.
-
Skilled in the formulation, negotiation, and establishment of complex, integrated contractual arrangements.
-
Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
-
Skilled at project management.
-
Ability to make complex administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
-
Ability to research potential sources of foundation and grant support from local and national funding sources.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Skilled at technical writing.
