Purpose
Provides basic landscaping work performing semi-skilled grounds maintenance tasks to maintain the health and appearance of The University of Texas at Austin campus landscape.
Responsibilities
Safely operates various pieces of landscaping equipment to include - riding mowers, tractors, loaders, sweepers, push mowers, string trimmers, cultivators, edgers and other various tools necessary for proper landscape care.
Installs, replaces, and maintains campus landscape to university standards - to include turf, shrubs, and construction of hardscape - and reports trouble conditions on university property that may pose safety hazard.
Irrigates new and existing landscape - turf, trees, shrubs - to maintain the health of the plants, abides by water restrictions as directed, performs or reports minor repairs needed on irrigation systems, and may help install small irrigation systems.
Picks up litter, empties trash receptacles, and keeps university properties neat and orderly.
Performs minor preventive maintenance on equipment and power tools, maintains preventive maintenance schedules, reports maintenance repairs, cleans equipment, maintains proper fluid levels in all equipment used by Landscape Services, and assists with inventory of supplies and equipment.
Cleans, maintains, operates a university vehicle, and maintains an acceptable driver's rating.
Follows and readily accepts written and oral instructions, maintains work schedule set by the supervisor, completes routine paperwork, to include weekly electronic time reports on the computer and other UT related electronic forms, routinely works independently and as part of a team at various university locations.
Wears appropriate personal protective equipment, PPE, for the task, follows safety rules, and promotes and exercises good safety habits.
Required Qualifications
High School graduation or GED. One year of experience in the maintenance, or operation of commercial sized landscape equipment, including tractors and riding mowers. One year experience in landscape maintenance or construction. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, office staff, and the university community. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently. Demonstrated stable work history and work ethic. Punctual attendance and available for work. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs. Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (weather, dust, noise, heights, fumes, etc.).
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree or trade specific licensure or certification. More than one year experience in landscape maintenance, construction, repair, or operation of commercial landscape equipment (to include riding mowers, tractors, loaders, and sweepers) in a commercial or institutional setting. More than two years’ experience in landscape maintenance or construction.
Salary Range
$36,400 + Depending on Qualifications

Work Shift

Mon-Fri, 6:00 am-2:30 pm. Hours may vary with work requirements during the growing season, emergencies, and for special functions on campus. Overtime may be required with little to no advance notice.
