Full Job Description

Margin Accounting serves as the primary finance contact intermediary for Lowe’s merchandise buyers with respect to vendor funded arrangements (promotional funds, inventory markdown funds, consumer rebates, etc.). The department is tasked with supporting the merchant teams in a fast paced, frequently changing environment. This department also ensures proper accounting methods are used to track, record, and collect these funds from vendor partners. Accounting pronouncements such as FASB Accounting Standards Codification Topic 605 (legacy standard: EITF 02-16) are used as guidelines for accounting treatment. The accurate and timely reporting of vendor funded programs is critical to the success of our company, especially in light of the high degree of regulatory oversight in this area, and tremendous growth in the volume and complexity of our vendor funded programs.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

The Assistant Manager will have direct supervisory responsibility of a team responsible for the monitoring and tracking of trade allowance programs negotiated between the Merchandising Department and our vendors to ensure that funds due have been collected and accounted for properly. Will need to learn the work to effectively support and assist when needed to support the merchandising team and all internal and external customers.

The Assistant Manager will review and assist with account reconciliations, quarterly SOX compliance meetings, weekly checklist reporting, provide feedback and ensure necessary adjustments are entered timely and accurately and assist with ad-hoc projects or reports. Will be responsible for reviewing audits and ensuring completion of these and all adjustments with the departmental risk approach and thresholds. This role will be a key lead to train team members and new employees. Frequent communication with Merchandising, vendors, other departments within Finance and other vendor funds accounting teams is required.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, vendor program evaluation, strong analytical skills are required to identify additional funding opportunities and drive profitability. These responsibilities also require vendor reviews, variance explanations and ad-hoc projects.

The individual in this position will need to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and offer recommendations for process improvements. The candidate will also assist with the formulation of the annual department business plan, departmental goals, hold regular 1:1’s and conduct annual reviews of team members.

Required Qualifications:
The candidate for this position will hold a BS or BA Degree in Accounting or Business and have 5-7 years of accounting and supervisory experience.

One must be self-motivated, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have strong leadership skills, including the ability to effectively influence and motivate others. This position also requires excellent time management/organizational skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. Must be proficient in MS Office software, including Excel, Access, and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:

Audit experience, along with strong computer skills (Excel, Access, etc.), is strongly desired.

CPA and/or MBA preferred.
