Full Job Description

Are you an engineer that enjoys problem solving, creative solutions, and people? This might be the opportunity for you.

As a Safety Engineer at MARSHALLTOWN, you will observe, analyze, and audit existing working conditions, equipment, processes, and systems to determine points of potential hazard and opportunities for better safety practices. You will develop and implement safe working processes and procedures, educating all levels of staff on best practices and appropriate equipment usage, as well as make recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacement as necessary. The Safety Engineer is familiar with researching state restrictions and making informed decisions based on what you learn, holding a position of leadership and applying critical thinking and analytical skills to the decision-making process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform audits and report the effectiveness of the safety program.

Create and manage safety systems for all MARSHALLTOWN assets, both people and property, that prevent injury, illness, or damage.

Maintain and enforce all safety and health policies and procedures, including those you create, already existing procedures, and policies ensuring compliance with regulatory entities.

Support incident investigations determining root causes and drive corrective actions.

Complete administrative duties, filling out safety reports, collaborating cross functionally and compiling information about accidents whenever they occur to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Provide engineering and safety insight at technical reviews.

Develop and maintain safety training materials, conduct training for new and current employees at all levels.

Survey equipment and facilities, identifying potentially unsafe conditions and implementing remedial processes.

Manage and prioritize competing projects and tasks ensuring timely results.

Other project work and tasks as assigned.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

Keeps immediate supervisor informed of important matters which must be handled at that level, with emphasis on critical incidents related to employee safety and security.
Contributes to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work, as needed, or requested.
Decision-making and authority exercised with good judgment, recognizing when others must be involved.
Shows initiative in gaining and maintaining the skills, abilities, and knowledge required to perform this position in at least a fully qualified and satisfactory manner.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

4-year technical degree in related field, required. Engineering is strongly preferred.
3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a safety engineering role
3-5 years of working experience in policy creation and enforcement specifically related to safety, strongly preferred.
Familiarity with OSHA regulatory requirements, required. OSHA 30 certification and/or Certified Safety Practitioner (CSP), preferred.
Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills, required.
Excellent leadership ability and experience leading training workshops, preferred.
