Description

The Lakewood Family YMCA is a rapidly growing and progressive branch that is looking for individuals who can positively contribute to our team. The Lakewood YMCA Gymnastics Center is looking for Gymnastics Coaches to coach our gymnasts between the ages of 6 to 18 years of age for our Xcel Competitive team and who will provide members a revitalized experience. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Gymnastics Coach will be responsible for coaching, overseeing and providing a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement, while adhering to the both the YMCA and USAG policies.

This is a part time opportunity with a varied work schedule.

Essential Functions:

Instruct participants in gymnastics.
Verify participants are on role sheets.
Advance children from one level to the next, following necessary testing procedures.
Plan each lesson in advance (with Program Director input if necessary) for maximum participation. Make sure participants rotate events according to schedule.
Attend your Team Level performances and/or competitions.
Assist director in coordinating USAG and YMCA meets, demonstrations & fundraising.
Inform supervisor if equipment is broken or lost.
Build relationships with parents and show your interest in their child. Keep the parents informed of new skills their child has learned or needs to work on.
Report all accidents to supervisor and fill out accident (incident) reports thoroughly. Know emergency procedures.
Advance children from one level to the next, following necessary testing procedures.
Instruct all participants in the safety rules.
Assist in grouping participants according to skill level.
Make sure participants rotate events accordingly.
Assist at demonstrations and shows.
Assist in maintaining clean attractive gymnastic facility.
Assist with gymnast of the month certificates and other rewards and incentives.
Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
Maintain open lines of communication with participant, coaches, referee, staff and supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age.
Strong gymnastic background competing and/or coaching at a competitive level.
Minimum of 2 years coaching experience required
Comprehensive understanding of gymnastics fundamentals, concepts, and progressions.
Positive teaching methodology leading to the creation of a motivating, healthy, and positive training environment.
Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid. CDC Concussion Prevention Training. Safe Sport.
Criminal Clearance: Including Fingerprints and background clearance
Health screening with negative TB Test and negative Drug Test Screening.
Complete all required online training(s)

Working Conditions:

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. gymnasium and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.
