Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Regional Clinical Manager reports directly to the Senior Director of Clinical Services. The position acts as a key role model and hands-on example to support their direct report sleep technicians and technologists perform comprehensive sleep testing, analysis, and associated interventions under the general supervision of the medical director and partnership designees.

Corporate Supervisory Duties

Participate in initiatives and activities that promote corporate success.
Participation in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Serve as staff to The Sleep Tech Academy and provide didactic and clinical instruction on an as needed basis.
Follow HIPAA privacy practices.
Participate in special projects on an as needed basis.
Demonstrate appropriate social skills.
Demonstrate customer service skills.
Demonstrate critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
Demonstrate teamwork skills.
Acts as a liaison for physician support related to clinical care and customer service.
Demonstrate the ability to respond to sleep patient procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate education utilizing sleep center specific protocols.

Staff Management

Manage all aspects of performance of direct reports.
Timekeeping, payroll, and time off management for direct reports.
Collaborate and assist with technician scheduling.
Collaborate equipment management with the Facilities team.
Manage sleep center Supply and Inventory levels.
Manage clinically related patient satisfaction issues.
Identify the need for staff within the region, participate in recruitment, on-boarding, orientation, and off-boarding of clinical staff.
Assist with the development, implementation, and enforcement of clinical policies.
Ongoing staff clinical education.
Participate in the manager-on-call schedule.
Contribute to content, development, and presentation to regional quarterly technician meetings.
Serve as physician and hospital point of contact for clinical oversite.
Visit staff during their working hours at each assigned center no less than once per week.
Visit each facility within the management territory no less than once per month.
Complete skills assessments routinely to ensure staff performance.
Maintain harmony among direct reports, resolve grievances, and endorse company objectives.
Promote reward and recognition-based programs for staff.

Manage Adherence to Policy and Procedures

Follow procedural protocols (such as Diagnostic, Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, Inspire, and oxygen titration, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data.
Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.
Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory, and heart rates, etc.).
Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct, and document artifact.
Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g., repeat the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires, checking for completeness, etc.).
Recognition and management of scoring sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
Recognition and management of scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards.
Assist with the generation of accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, as required.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform HSAT equipment preparation and download.
Perform patient education and instruction appropriate for HSAT procedures.
Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures.
Ensure all documentation is completed and available in the patient chart at the completion of the study. This includes pre-study and post study questionnaires, medication lists, pain assessments, incident reports, etc.

Quality Assurance

Train new technicians in the performance of all duties and requirements. Identify and encourage strengths; as well as identify and correct weaknesses of employees to promote personal and professional development and to ensure study quality.
Review clinical records and polysomnographic data to assess the quality of staff’s work and provide feedback and remediation as needed.
Ensure adherence to Incident Reporting policy and procedures including reporting of Routine Medical Events and Serious Medical Events.

Time Management

Participate in scheduled onsite meetings with sleep center administrators.
Participate in weekly virtual conference calls related to sleep center operations. The environment during these calls should be quiet and professional. Attire should be business casual or medical scrubs. The camera should be on and audio available.
Respond to interdepartmental and client inquiries within 12 hours.
Weekly visits to locations with a minimum of each location visited once per month.

Routine Work Hours

Maintain availability during corporate business hours.
Work hours vary depending on the needs of the company and the evolving tasks/projects related to achieving the aforementioned objectives.
Remote with 50% travel required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Regional Clinical Manager will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws and in the oversight and completion of work assigned, meeting assigned deadlines, and ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction. Overall responsibilities will include training employees and physicians; as well as managing projects. The need to work outside of normal business hours may be necessary to meet these expectations.

Service and Professional Requirements

Maintain state issued professional license if managing facilities and/or staff within a state that regulates polysomnography.
Maintain either the RPSGT or the RRT-SDS credential.
Maintain current American Heart Association BLS Provider (CPR/AED) certification or another commensurate with AASM standards and state issuing a professional license if applicable.
Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
Participate in equipment care and maintenance collaborating with the facilities department as needed.
Attain hospital required clearances to staff all facilities that direct reports staff, including but not limited to, completion of orientation courses and modules, complete physicals and maintain documentation of completion.
Demonstrate effective written, verbal, communication skills and teaching skills.
Perform studies on a regular basis at each of your assigned center locations.
Provide coverage support and perform sleep testing when needed in order to maintain uninterrupted patient care delivery.
Demonstrate skills necessary for a health care provider and manager (bed side manner, professional appearance, etc)
Demonstrate ability and willingness to accept, follow and provide instruction.

Professional Development

Attend sponsored and external meetings, classes, seminars and educational symposiums and/or courses as needed for performance improvement and progression within the field and the company.
Maintain some level of participation in local, regional and national polysomnographic societies and activities.
Maintain ten sleep specific continuing education credits annually.

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma.
Hold either the RPSGT or Respiratory Care Credential.
Inspire Therapy Certification Preferred.
Demonstrate exemplary performance of a Polysomnographic Technologist.
Certification in American Heart Association BLS Provider certification or another commensurate with AASM standards and state issuing a professional license if applicable.
Maintain state mandated license in state/region.
