Full Job Description

Job summary

Under the supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Manager and/or the Lead Respiratory Therapist and upon request of the physician, sets up and operates various types of respiratory care equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness.

Summary of essential job functions

Respiratory Therapist conduct physician prescribed treatments: including but not limited to, Hand Held Nebulizer Therapy and various nasal oxygen devices in order to administer prescribed medicinal vapors and gases, humidity, various oxygen concentrations to the respiratory system of the patient, and chest physical therapy treatments.
Respiratory Therapist set up, operate and monitor ventilators when patient’s respiratory system is incapable of adequate spontaneous ventilation. Participate in ventilator weaning process, utilizing protocols and physician direction. Set up ventilator using the ventilator graphics to ensure the patient is comfortable and getting enough flow to meet his/her respiratory demand.
Respiratory Therapist ensure the adequate maintenance of ventilation during cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; intubate as necessary.

STANDARD JOB DUITIES

Respiratory Therapist adheres to all components of the Hospital Compliance Plan in performing job duties and reports any violations or suspected violations of the Plan to the Compliance Officer.
Demonstrates professional conduct and complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Develops an understanding of responsibilities for recognizing patient abuse and follows policy for making appropriate referrals/interventions.

Education/Experience:

Must be Credentialed by The National Board of Respiratory Care as a CRT or RRT.

Language Ability:
Ability to read, write and speak English.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses:

Licensed to practice by the state of employment as a Respiratory Practitioner. . Must have BLS upon hire and obtain ACLS certification within 90 days of employment. Must maintain licenses and certification for duration of employment.

Work Environment:

The work environment is representative of that which an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The physical demands of this job are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
