Full Job Description

DIRECT HIRE: Looking for a professional, reliable, and highly skilled Site Safety Officer.

Pay Range: $140K - $160K

Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, 401K

Job Summary:
The SSO is responsible for implementing the project safety plans and identifying and eliminating any hazards to project personnel. They will be responsible for implementing immediate corrective measures for any unsafe or hazardous situation or to prevent a recurrence of any mishap/incident. The SSO will inform affected employees and subcontractors of corrective actions as soon as they are implemented; typically, through the daily tailgate briefings or quality control (QC) and progress meetings.

The SSO will have project safety and health authority. You will also inform the Corporate Health and Safety Manager (HSM), as well as Project Manager of any observed hazards or noncompliance with health and safety recommendations.

Managing the health and safety program for the site
Implementing and enforcing the accepted Health and Safety Plan (HASP), Worksite-specific COVID-19 Prevention Plan, and activity hazard analyses (AHAs)
Conducting periodic inspections to verify if the HASP is being implemented properly
Reviewing scope of work and modifying AHAs, as applicable, prior to the start of work
Monitoring entry and exit to the work area (i.e., exclusion zone)
Determining ingress and egress routes to work areas
Monitoring protective clothing and equipment to ensure they are properly stored and maintained, and upgrading or downgrading of PPE based on site conditions
Performing air monitoring, as necessary, for worker exposure; evaluating air monitoring data; and recommending changes to engineering controls, work practices, and PPE to the HSM
Tracking and filing exposure data from air monitoring on a weekly basis (if collected)
Advising medical personnel of potential exposures and consequences
Verifying each team member’s suitability for work based on the employee's training and a physician's recommendation
Monitoring each team member for signs of stress, such as heat and cold stress and fatigue or exposure to chemical or biological toxins
Ensuring emergency procedures, evacuation routes, and telephone numbers of the ambulance, local hospital, poison control center, fire department, and police department are posted at the project site
Ensuring that at least two qualified first aid/CPR providers are on site
Notifying local public emergency officials, when necessary, and coordinating emergency medical care and evacuation, if necessary
Initiating and participating in incident/mishap investigations and completing incident reports as part of daily safety/QC report
Ensuring first-aid kits are on site and adequately stocked (includes consideration of the bloodborne pathogens standard)
Coordinating emergency medical care and evacuation if necessary
Conducting daily safety and health inspections and maintaining a written log that includes area and operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, and estimated and actual dates of corrections; safety inspection logs will be attached to the daily production report
Maintaining applicable safety reference material on the jobsite
Maintaining a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution, and posting a list of unresolved safety and health deficiencies in the safety and health clipboard found in the front of vehicles
Ensuring subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements
Maintaining state and federal government required posters on site

The SSO will maintain records of all health and safety equipment brought on site, including calibration and maintenance records for instruments used on site. The SSO will be responsible for conducting safety briefings and daily tailgate meetings to instruct workers on hazards and safe work practices and for reviewing relevant AHAs.

The SSO is authorized to make changes to the site-specific HASP, provided the changes are communicated to and approved by the company HSM. In addition, the changes should be communicated to and approved by client representatives prior to implementation. The SSO is responsible for enforcing the HASP, including work stoppage and upgrade or downgrade of PPE based on site conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
Five years of industry-related experience
40-Hour HAZWOPER training and 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher
OSHA 30-hour construction training
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year university or college
CPR, First Aid training
