The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Alaska Army National Guard Facilities is recruiting for a
Environmental Program Specialist 1/2/3 position.
This is a General Government Bargaining Unit position and is flexibly staffed based on experience and/or training plan:
EPS 1 Range 14: $1,941.00 Biweekly salary,
EPS 2 Range 16: $2,229.75 Biweekly salary,
EPS 3 Range 18: $2,568.75 Biweekly salary.
What You Will Be Doing:
Are you looking for a place to develop your knowledge of environmental compliance and conservation AND support the Alaska Army National Guard (AKARNG). Look no further! This Environmental Program Specialist 1-2-3 position provides professional management of the AKARNG. In the Environmental Program Specialist position, you will support the AKARNG Facilities Management Office by providing assistance in the areas of hazardous waste, fuel storage tank management, spill response and cleanup, soil and water sampling, site evaluation, cultural resources, and more. Formal and on-the-job training will be provided. The position will be expected to work as part of the environmental compliance branch, supporting the DMVA Facilities Management Office and AKARNG operations.

Our mission is to provide environmental oversight and management for the 18 AKARNG locations statewide. We accomplish this through staff training, soldier engagement, compliance site visits, and providing timely and accurate regulatory guidance. Our team helps keep the AKARNG mission-ready for State and Federal service.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is located at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage. While mostly an office job, the successful candidate will be expected to travel statewide to large and small communities with other staff members to assess facilities for environmental compliance. This will generally consist of 4 or more one day trips and 1 or 2 overnight trips per year depending upon section staffing and needs. The incumbent will work with other State employees, AKARNG members, federal employees, and contractors on a regular basis.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location on base. The background check will include fingerprinting. Flexibly Staffed Position:
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the EPS 1, 2, or 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/ or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
