Full Job Description

The Olympic Club, a private member athletic and country club in San Francisco, seeks a Chief Stationary Engineer for our City Club property. At The Olympic Club, our members enjoy 2 campuses, 19 sports, world-renowned golf courses, exceptional social and athletic programs as well as 18 hotel rooms and 5 Food & Beverage outlets. Our City Clubhouse is located one block from Union Square and within easy walking distance of the Powell Street BART station. Our Lakeside Clubhouse sits next to the ocean on the border of San Francisco and Daly City.

The Olympic Club offers free meals during work shifts, free golf on Mondays at our Lakeside campus and a variety of sport and social events for employees throughout the year. Benefits include: PTO, sick time, holidays, floating holidays, pension, and uniforms.

Our Stationary Engineers are members of Local 39. Scheduling is by position seniority with shifts assigned based on operational needs. Candidates must have availability to work flexible schedules including day times, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Position Summary:

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of all buildings, machinery and equipment of the property. The Chief Engineer is also responsible for all aspects of the Engineering department including the proper operation, maintenance and repair of all HVAC, refrigeration, pools/water features, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, life safety, electrical and mechanical equipment/systems.

The Chief Engineer will supervise, train and manage all Engineering staff.

Position Overview:

Essential functions and responsibilities:

Develop, coordinate and monitor all spaces, equipment, and preventative maintenance programs to ensure the reliability, safety, and comfort of all staff and members
Responsible for overall management of Preventative Maintenance Program, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatments, pneumatics, control systems, water systems, boilers, refrigeration, compressors, etc.
Accountable for the financial performance of the department
Consistently monitor the performance of employees on an on-going basis and provide feedback. Reward, discipline and document employee performance and provide timely counseling. Address employee complaints and resolve problems
Establish and stay current on all safety and sanitation policies and procedures that impact the property
Be familiar with the operating procedures of all other areas of The Olympic Club, cooperating fully and in a friendly manner with those areas to assure customer satisfaction
Maintain efficiency in the operation of the staff in a high standard of quality of service and courtesy, bringing total satisfaction to our members
Leads and assists with capital building projects at the direction of the Director of Real Estate and Facilities
Maintain and/or verify operational readiness all life safety systems in the building
Identify and procure outside companies, after approval from the Director, for specialty, specially licensed or imminently urgent work from qualified contractors and facilitate work performed

Non-Essential functions and responsibilities:

Regular attendance required based on business expectations and needs
Complies with all federal, state and local employment laws, safety regulations and guidelines, Olympic Club by laws and house rules, Club policies and procedures and Union contracts

Qualifications Required:

High School graduation, State High School Proficiency Certificate, G.E.D. equivalent or trade school equivalent education
Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses or certificates, including High Rise Fire Director Certificate, Swimming Pool & Spa Technician and EPA Certification
Fluent English written and oral communication
Must have a working knowledge of Boilers, Chillers, HVAC, Refrigeration, Electrical, Plumbing, Power Transmission, Water Treatment, Life Safety, and Environmental Controls
Swimming pool and Jacuzzi chemistry knowledge and how to test chemical levels
Must be able to swim
Must have basic Microsoft Office knowledge and how to operate a computer
Must be able to diagnose problems, and take appropriate and timely action to prevent potential problems
Possess knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
Be able to read, interpret and work from blue prints, electrical, mechanical and plumbing schematics
Ability to follow oral and written directions
Be able to demonstrate mechanical ability
Keep accurate records
Must possess a valid driver’s license
May be required to work over-time, including weekends and holidays, and/or shift work, based on operational needs

Qualifications Desired:

Technical knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, boilers, swimming pool certified, and refrigeration required
Five years’ experience as Chief Engineer or equivalent management position
Strong knowledge of using Tracer Summit or equivalent BAS as well as HotSOS or equivalent preventive Maintenance program
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship for Stationary Engineers
