Apex seeks a Tax Supervisor with 5+ years of business, pass-through and personal tax preparation and technical review experience. Candidate should be technology proficient and present strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidate will perform the duties needed to ensure compliance with federal and state income tax requirements for the clients of our public accounting firm. We serve closely held businesses and business owners, as well as high net worth individuals, tax exempt organizations and others, including all types of entity tax forms (Forms 1065, 1120S, 1120, 990, 1040 and 1041).

Reports to Senior Manager of Tax Services
Expected Hours:
January 1 through April 15: 55 hours per week
April 16 through December 31: 40 hours per week
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficient in preparation of complex pass-through entity and individual tax returns
- Possesses strong tax research skills and ability to provide value-added solutions to complex client tax issues
- Review tax returns and tax projections completed by staff and provide feedback when necessary
- Strong tax accounting skills including calculation of required tax distributions to owners and Book vs Tax differences
- Ability to draft clear and concise tax memorandums for client tax-related technical matters
- Ability to understand the tax implications of buy side and sell side mergers & acquisitions
- Maintain fixed asset database and record associated asset addition, disposal, and depreciation journal entries
- Ability to understand the fundamentals of muti-state tax filings (SALT)
- Ability to understand the tax implications of buy side and sell side mergers & acquisitions
- Maintain excellent client relationships and customer service
- Prepare tax projections for clients and take part in client meetings to present findings to them verbally and also in written form
- Take the initiative when undertaking special projects to ensure they are completed accurately and on a timely basis

Education, Experience, Qualifications, And Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration preferred.
- CPA preferred with current license in Illinois and/or Arizona
- 5+ years of experience in preparing corporate and personal tax returns ((Public Accounting Experience is a plus but not required)
- Excellent analytical, technical skills
- A keen eye for detail and aberrations
- An analytical mind and good data extraction and report writing skills.
- Team player and good work ethic
- High level of reliability, integrity, and confidentiality
- Knowledge of accounting systems such as QuickBooks and Sage helpful, but not required
- Knowledge of AZ Transaction Privilege Tax
- Microsoft Office Skills: Minimum skillset: Advanced user and able to successfully perform v-lookups and utilize pivot tables
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Accept ownership of all areas of responsibility
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines by prioritizing and performing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Great multi-tasker with the ability to solve problems and work with multiple clients
