Hardware Store Manager Poplar

Summary: Handles all responsibilities that relate to the operation of the Hardware Store Business. This position is directly accountable to the General Manager. Assists the General Manager in achieving the operational goals of the organization. Works directly and cooperatively with the entire leadership team to accomplish goals and fully execute initiatives of the cooperative.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Manages departmental inventories by tracking weekly sales reports and orders product as needed to satisfy customer demand and advertised sale needs – several times a week.

2. Controls departmental/store expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, by controlling costs and by reducing losses due to shrinkage.

3. Implements pricing on new items while maintaining budgeted gross margins. Prepares, maintains and tracks all types of records concerning inventories to calculate gross margins according to store expectations.

4. Develops and implements localized merchandising plan for the departments/store, sets up and creates displays for new and seasonal items as well as items that are tied-in with other department/store promotions, in order to meet the sales and objectives of the departments, the store and the cooperative.

5. Maintains effective housekeeping program. Keeps merchandise clean and fresh so as to maintain a positive customer perception and meet all health department regulations, pass sanitation inspections and meet store standards. Ensures that associates work and operate equipment in a safe manner at all times. Insures compliance with local, state and government weights and measures laws.

6. Develops and maintains communications with other departments/stores in order to devise marketing plans, which will help meet the operational objectives of the store/cooperative. Keeps General Manager fully informed of these actions.

7. Sets up advertising displays or arranges merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales.

8. Cashiers as needed.

9. Unloads trucks and stocks shelves.

10. Checks invoices for shorts, mispicks and calls in for credit.

11. Records waste and damage and processes according to established guidelines.

12. Drives forklift as needed.

13. Completes Ad planners and Pre-books.

14. Communicates and Coordinates with secondary vendors for special pricing and advertising.

15. Resets sections as needed.

16. Responsible for creating a yearly budget.

17. Attends monthly Board of Directors Meetings.

18. Attends two buying shows a year.

19. Oversees and participates in annual inventory.

20. Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Supervisory Responsibilities

1. Supervises at least two full-time and several part-time employees

2. Treats all employees fairly and consistently.

3. Opens and closes the store for schedules shifts.

4. Hires, trains and supervises clerks. Works with and alongside to ensure the quantity and quality of work required.

5. Writes employee schedules to conform to company guidelines.

6. Handles monies, supervises cashiers, and secures monies as required.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two-and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with l0’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement. Ability to use and understand percentages to calculate gross margins and track performance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Ability to obtain a responsible servers license.
