We are currently seeking a qualified Desktop Support Technician to join our client’s team onsite in West Palm Beach, FL.
This role provides hands-on technical support for the Distribution Control Center (DCC) and corporate workstation environments, focusing on hardware maintenance, workstation lifecycle management, and operational readiness. The position requires strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and dedication to maintaining reliable computing infrastructure for mission-critical dispatch and control center operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Workstation Lifecycle Management
Replace, upgrade or reimage physical workstations to maintain current operating system standards
Unpack appropriate CPU, hardware, and software and install each at default or to custom specifications
Install and configure new physical workstations following customer specifications based on instructions supplied
Perform hardware upgrades including, but not limited to, RAM replacement, HDD to SATA conversions, and component installations
Test configured systems for appropriate functioning and troubleshoot for any errors found
Decommission and properly dispose of legacy physical workstations and monitors
Document workstations in use or replaced for asset tracking and inventory management
Complete all required documentation of installation, including quality assurance sheets to ensure accurate billing with respect to warranty contracts, proper processing of defective products, and timely vendor returns and reimbursements
Hardware Support & Maintenance
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues including, but not limited to, power supply failures, docking station problems, and peripheral malfunctions
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning units using efficient problem-solving techniques and departmental procedures
Replace defective hardware components such as keyboards, mice, monitors, and hard drives
Test connectivity, audio, and display functionality on upgraded systems
Work with Lead Technicians on difficult to solve problems or configurations
Manage DCC/PDDC supplies and maintain clean, organized work areas
Support installation of new equipment behind video wall and other critical infrastructure
Operational Support
Participate in On-Call rotation as needed, providing 24/7 support for critical VDI and virtualization issues
- Respond to urgent connectivity and performance issues during business hours and after hours
Coordinate with cross-functional teams for scheduled maintenance and upgrade windows
Maintain operational readiness of dispatcher workstations and control center virtual desktops
Reboot and restart systems to resolve patching reporting and other operational issues
Perform escort duties for vendor installations and sensitive infrastructure work
Coordinate with other teams for equipment delivery, setup, and configuration
Respond to urgent hardware requests and workstation issues
Maintain operational readiness of DCC/PDDC dispatch workstations and control center equipment
Compliance & Documentation
Adhere to all NERC CIP compliance requirements
Comply with departmental training certification requirements
Maintain accurate asset lists for workstation deployments and upgrades (e.g., Firefox deployment, Corp Machine Asset Lists)
- Document all workstation upgrades, hardware replacements, and configuration changes
Follow established procedures for workstation imaging and configuration standards
Ensure compliance with IT security and operational policies during all hardware activities
Professional Development
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong hands-on experience with hardware troubleshooting and workstation support
Proficiency in Windows operating system installation, imaging, and configuration
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong organizational skills for managing hardware inventory and tracking workstation lifecycle
Excellent attention to detail for documentation and asset management
Physical ability to move, install, and configure desktop computers and peripherals
Understanding of IT service desk processes and incident management
Effective communication skills for coordinating with vendors, technicians, and end users
Ability to follow customer specifications and technical instructions accurately
Strong problem-solving skills using systematic troubleshooting approaches
Ability to lift and move desktop computers, monitors, and related equipment
Key Deliverables
Timely completion of workstation upgrades, reimaging, and hardware replacements
Accurate documentation of all hardware installations and configurations
Minimal downtime for DCC/PDDC dispatch and corporate workstations through proactive maintenance
- Clean and organized work areas with proper asset tracking
Responsive support for urgent hardware issues and operational needs
Complete and accurate quality assurance documentation for warranty compliance
Wage Range:
The rate for this position is between $17.25 - $23.00 per hour, unless local minimum wage is higher. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
