Full Job Description

Design Release Engineer – Powertrain / Engine Components (Automotive)

Location: Onsite (5 Days/Week) – Auburn Hills, MI (Weekly travel to Dundee Engine Plant required)
Duration: Long-Term Contract

Pay rate: $42/hour on W2

We are seeking an experienced Design Release Engineer to support the development and production of powertrain sealing components for automotive engine programs. This role will own the design release process for engine components, working closely with suppliers, validation teams, manufacturing, and cross-functional engineering groups throughout the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design release and development of powertrain/engine components from concept through production.
Manage engineering deliverables including BOMs, Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), PPAP, and APQP activities.
Coordinate with suppliers to ensure component design, manufacturability, quality, cost, and timing objectives are achieved.
Support product validation activities, including development of validation plans, testing, teardown reviews, and issue resolution.
Participate in DFMEA, DVP&R, risk assessments, and engineering reviews.
Review CAD models using Siemens NX and Teamcenter (model navigation/review only; no CAD design required).
Interpret FEA/CAE results and collaborate with analysis teams to support engineering decisions.
Work closely with vehicle integration, manufacturing, quality, and validation teams to support current production and new product development programs.
Track program timing, milestones, and engineering deliverables to ensure successful product launches.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
5+ years of experience in automotive mechanical design, design release, or product development engineering.
Experience supporting engine, powertrain, transmission, driveline, or other automotive mechanical components.
Strong understanding of product development processes, including PPAP, APQP, DFMEA, DVP&R, BOM management, and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
Basic understanding of FEA/CAE concepts and ability to interpret analysis results.
Familiarity with GD&T and manufacturing processes.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with sealing components such as gaskets, O-rings, crankshaft seals, cylinder head gaskets, elastomers, or related sealing systems.
Experience creating and executing validation plans.
Familiarity with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
Experience supporting automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier programs.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience owning automotive mechanical components through the full product development lifecycle, from concept through production release. Candidates with Design Release Engineering experience supporting engine or powertrain systems, supplier management, validation activities, and engineering release processes are highly encouraged to apply. Direct sealing experience is preferred but not required.
