Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Medical Administration Specialists (Picture Archiving and Communication System - PACS) to support healthcare operations at Naval Medical Facilities in and around San Diego, California.

Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) is required.

The Medical Administration Specialist (PACS) is responsible for the administration, coordination, maintenance, and operational support of imaging informatics systems utilized within Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs), federal healthcare diagnostic imaging departments.

This position serves as a liaison between Radiology, Information Technology, Clinical Operations, Biomedical Engineering, and healthcare leadership to ensure the secure, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of PACS, Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Vendor Neutral Archives (VNA), and related imaging technologies.

Principal Accountabilities

Administer and support PACS operations across assigned healthcare facilities and departments.
Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) is required.
Monitor PACS performance to ensure continuous availability and functionality of imaging systems.
Coordinate system upgrades, software patches, maintenance activities, and vendor support.
Monitor image transmission, storage, retrieval, and archival processes.
Troubleshoot PACS, RIS, modality, and imaging workflow issues.
Maintain PACS operational documentation, system configurations, and standard operating procedures.
Coordinate workflow activities among Radiology, Cardiology, Nuclear Medicine, Dental Imaging, Orthopedics, and other imaging departments.
Support DICOM device configuration, modality integrations, and imaging interoperability initiatives.
Build and maintain worklists, user profiles, and imaging workflow protocols.
Perform routine system health checks, storage monitoring, quality assurance reviews, and data integrity validation.
Coordinate with IT, cybersecurity, networking, and vendor support teams to resolve technical issues.
Provide training and technical support to radiologists, physicians, technologists, nurses, and administrative staff.
Assist with PACS upgrades, migrations, testing, workflow redesign, and implementation projects.
Support cybersecurity compliance, patch management, Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements, and audit responses.
Develop reports, presentations, and operational metrics for leadership review.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, cybersecurity requirements, and protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
Strong knowledge of PACS, RIS, imaging informatics, and healthcare information systems.
Familiarity with DICOM, HL7, imaging workflows, and interoperability standards.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Excellent organizational, analytical, troubleshooting, and prioritization skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Information Management, Health Informatics, Information Technology, or a related field.

Qualifications

Minimum one (1) year of experience in PACS Administration, Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Imaging Informatics, Healthcare Information Technology, Medical Administration, or Diagnostic Imaging Operations.
Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) is required.
PACS certification through PARCA (CPAS, CDIP, CPSA) preferred.
Current BLS certification preferred.
Experience supporting military, federal, VA, or large healthcare systems preferred.
Experience with Fuji Synapse, PowerScribe, or comparable imaging systems preferred.

Duty Hours / Schedule

Full-time position.
8.5-hour or 11-hour shifts.
Position supports 24/7 operations.
Rotating weekend coverage may be required.
Day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts may be assigned based on operational needs.
Maximum 80 hours per two-week pay period.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.

Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
Must be a Citizen of the United States or legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
