Electrical Engineer (Entry Level)
Aegis Terra | Atlanta, GA (On Site) | Full Time
The Opportunity
Aegis Terra is a veteran-owned defense technology company building low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) communications, edge-compute, and data-transport hardware for urban, austere, and Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, or Limited bandwidth (DDIL) environments. Our core product portfolio, the Field Broadband Transport (FBT) device and the FlexBridge Radio over Internet Protocol (RoIP) gateway (FBR), is fielded and in active development across the U.S. Department of War, U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), allied Special Operations Forces (SOF), and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) partner forces.
The Entry Level Electrical Engineer is an Atlanta-based role for an early-career engineer who wants to build real defense hardware from day one. You will work alongside our senior electrical, firmware, and hardware engineers to design, build, test, and bring up the boards and systems inside our products. This is a hands-on seat with a clear growth path: you will start by supporting design and test work and grow into owning subsystems as you develop.
The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or early-career engineer with strong electrical engineering fundamentals, a maker mentality, and a genuine interest in tactical communications and edge-compute hardware. No prior defense experience is required. We will teach you the mission context; you bring the fundamentals and the drive to learn fast.
Key Responsibilities: Hardware Engineering and Bring-Up
- Support the design, layout review, and validation of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic subsystems across the FBT, FBR, and next-generation data-transport and compute platforms
- Assist with hardware bring-up, board rework, soldering, and basic surface-mount work in the lab
- Build, wire, and configure test fixtures and benchtop setups for development and validation
- Help characterize circuits using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and entry-level Radio Frequency (RF) and network test equipment
- Capture measurements, log results, and help diagnose hardware issues under the direction of senior engineers
Test, Integration, and Documentation
- Execute test procedures and acceptance checks on prototype and production units
- Support integration of Aegis Terra hardware with the networks and systems our customers use
- Produce and maintain clean technical documentation including test reports, wiring diagrams, and as-built notes
- Provide hands-on support during internal builds, lab integration, and occasional customer test events
Learning and Team Support
- Learn our products, tools, and compliance practices from senior electrical and firmware engineers
- Help manage lab inventory, test equipment, and spare assets, including basic audits and lifecycle tracking
- Contribute to internal engineering playbooks and continuous improvement
- Support special projects and integration efforts as directed by engineering leadership
RequirementsClearance and Language
- U.S. citizenship required (no dual citizenships, please)
- Secret or Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility a plus, but not required to start; we sponsor clearances
- Fluency in English, written and spoken
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Recent graduates and upcoming graduates are encouraged to apply.
Required Skills and Experience
- 0 to 2 years of experience. Internships, co-ops, capstone projects, and serious personal projects all count.
- Solid grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals: circuit analysis, analog and digital basics, and reading schematics
- Comfort in a hands-on lab: soldering, using an oscilloscope and multimeter, and following test procedures
- Familiarity with at least one of: embedded firmware basics (C or C++ on microcontrollers), Python scripting, or basic Internet Protocol (IP) networking concepts
- A careful, organized approach to measurement, documentation, and troubleshooting
- Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership in a small team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with PCB design tools (KiCad, Altium, or similar)
- Exposure to microcontrollers and embedded platforms (ARM Cortex, Raspberry Pi RP2350, ESP32, or similar)
- Basic RF or antenna coursework or project experience
- Experience with Linux and command-line tools
- Surface-mount soldering and rework experience
- Familiarity with low-SWaP edge-compute or communications hardware
- Prior internship or co-op in a hardware, electronics, or defense setting
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role based at our Atlanta facility. Field travel is occasional and mission-driven, not routine. Candidates should expect to:
- Travel occasionally (up to 15%) to support test events and program coordination, primarily within the continental United States
- Use hand and power tools to build and configure electronics and test hardware
- Lift, carry, and move technical equipment and test hardware up to 50 lbs
- Sit or stand for extended periods during lab and documentation work
- Work occasional evenings or weekends when build or test tempo requires it
Background Screening
Successful completion of a background screening, check, or investigation will or may be required as a condition of hire.

Application Question(s):
- Tell me about a time a communications system went down or wasn't working right, and you had to track down the cause. Where did you start, and how did you isolate the problem?
- Walk me through a time you had to get new equipment working inside a customer's existing network, especially older or unfamiliar systems. What made it hard, and how did you handle the parts that didn't want to talk to each other?
