Full Job Description

Job Title: Platform Engineer

Position: Full time, salaried with benefits

Location: New York, NY

Overview:

The Virtual Construction Lab (VCL) is looking for a Platform Engineer to help design, implement, and maintain modern cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines. This role will focus on automating software delivery, improving deployment reliability, and managing cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes, and enjoys working closely with development teams to streamline development and deployment processes.

As a cross-disciplinary team, VCL researches and develops tools that aid Schüco and its partners in the design, construction, management, installation, and maintenance of facade projects around the world. The tasks of a VCL engineer are varied bringing an enthusiastic drive to learn and innovate. Work will vary from project to project, including but not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for multiple applications and microservices.
Automate build, testing, deployment, and release processes.
Manage cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform.
Deploy, configure, and maintain Kubernetes clusters and workloads.
Improve system reliability, scalability, and availability through automation and monitoring.
Collaborate with development teams to optimize application deployment and operational processes.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) following industry best practices.
Monitor production environments, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, and participate in incident resolution.
Configure and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
Manage application configuration, secrets, networking, and deployment strategies.
Optimize cloud resource utilization and infrastructure costs.
Document infrastructure, deployment procedures, and operational processes.
Participate in architecture discussions and recommend improvements to deployment and infrastructure strategies.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
3+ years of experience in a DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering role.
Strong experience with AWS services.
Hands-on experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
Experience deploying and managing applications on Kubernetes.
Experience with Docker and containerization.
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.
Strong knowledge of Linux administration and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, or Python).
Experience with Git and version control workflows.
Understanding of networking, security, and cloud infrastructure best practices.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Legal authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Amazon EKS.
Experience with Helm and Kubernetes package management.
Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or ELK.
Experience with microservices architecture.
Familiarity with Argo CD or GitOps workflows.
AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or SysOps Administrator) are a plus.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
