CLINICAL REGISTRY ABSTRACTOR

Position Summary

The Clinical Registry Abstractor is responsible for reviewing patient medical records and accurately abstracting clinical, demographic, and outcomes data into disease- or procedure-specific registries. This role supports quality improvement initiatives, regulatory reporting, research, and benchmarking by ensuring data integrity and compliance with registry specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Review electronic health records (EHRs) to identify and abstract required clinical data elements.
Enter data into national and facility-specific clinical registries while meeting accuracy and productivity standards.
Interpret clinical documentation, laboratory results, imaging reports, and operative notes to ensure complete and accurate abstraction.
Apply registry definitions, coding guidelines, and abstraction manuals consistently.
Perform quality assurance reviews and resolve data discrepancies as needed.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, quality departments, and registry coordinators to clarify documentation and improve data quality.
Meet established turnaround times and productivity metrics while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
Participate in ongoing registry education, updates, and training.

Qualifications

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, or a related healthcare field preferred.
One or more years of clinical registry abstraction, clinical data abstraction, coding, or quality reporting experience preferred.
Experience with EHR systems and national registries (e.g., ACC, STS, ACS NSQIP, NCDR, SEER, or trauma registries) is REQUIRED
Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation.
Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry applications.

Skills and Qualifications

Basic understanding of US Health Insurance and Revenue Cycle
General knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes
Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance
Attention to detail and willingness to learn
Ability to follow written guidelines and processes
Solid communication and teamwork skills
Computer proficiency and basic data entry skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per month
