Senior Quality Assurance Engineer

Department: IT | Location: Washington, DC | Type: Full-time

About the Role

Digital Charter is seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join the CRAFT team in support of an examiner workflow tool — a modern replacement and enhancement of a legacy system built on AWS cloud services. This role is critical to ensuring the quality and continuous improvement of the platform through automation-first testing, close collaboration with the product owner, development team, management, and end users, and adherence to Agile best practices.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks using Playwright and/or Selenium

Create and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test strategies covering functional, regression, smoke, sanity, and performance testing

Partner with the product owner and development team to translate requirements into test scripts

Perform front-end and back-end testing across Angular applications, REST APIs, AWS GovCloud services, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server

Execute automated test suites as part of nightly and scheduled CI/CD build pipelines

Track and manage defects through AzureDevOps, GitLab, or Jira

Refactor and optimize existing automation code for reliability, performance, and maintainability

Present test results and quality metrics to stakeholders and management

Participate in Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives

Required Experience

Minimum 7 years of experience in automated and manual testing, including front-end and back-end systems

Ability to work independently within an Agile/Scrum environment

Hands-on experience with AzureDevOps, GitLab, Jira, and AWS GovCloud

Strong written and oral communication skills

Proven presentation skills for reporting to management and stakeholders

Technical Skills

Experience designing and implementing Playwright and/or Selenium automation frameworks (POM, BDD, Data Driven)

Proficiency in Java or Python for building and maintaining automation scripts

Strong knowledge of test design techniques (boundary value analysis, equivalence partitioning)

Experience testing Angular apps, REST APIs, AWS GovCloud, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server

Solid understanding of SQL for database testing

Experience with performance testing tools

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems

Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for web application testing
