The Next Step Public Charter School (TNS) is seeking a passionate, student-centered GED Humanities/Math Teacher to join our Academic Team. What You'll DoTeach & Inspire
- Deliver engaging Humanities and/or Math instruction to Adult Basic Education and GED students.
- Create student-centered learning experiences that meet learners where they are academically.
- Teach students with diverse educational backgrounds, learning styles, and language proficiency levels.
- Foster critical thinking, literacy development, problem-solving, and real-world application of skills.
- Support students in developing essential life skills such as goal-setting, self-advocacy, organization, and collaboration.
Design Meaningful Learning Experiences
- Develop curriculum and lesson plans aligned with school goals and adult learning best practices.
- Incorporate literacy, digital literacy, and technology across the curriculum.
- Implement project-based learning, differentiation strategies, and gradual release instructional models.
- Create learning environments that support English Language Learners and students preparing for postsecondary opportunities.
Support Student Success
- Build positive relationships with students through restorative practices.
- Monitor student progress and provide ongoing feedback and academic support.
- Meet regularly with students to review goals and celebrate growth.
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, progress, and performance.
- Use student feedback to continuously improve instructional practices.
Collaborate & Grow Professionally
- Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and professional development.
- Collaborate with instructional coaches and school leaders to improve teaching practices.
- Contribute to curriculum development and school-wide instructional initiatives.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure student engagement and achievement remain at the center of all decisions.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience or related experience working directly with adult learners.
- Experience teaching English, Humanities, and/or Math across multiple academic levels.
- Knowledge of reading comprehension, literacy development, and language acquisition strategies.
- Understanding of adult learning theory and student-centered instructional practices.
- Experience with project-based learning and differentiated instruction.
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Flexibility to teach multiple subject areas based on student and program needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- District of Columbia teaching certification or eligibility for certification.
- Master's Degree in Education or a related field.
- Experience working with students ages 16–30 in multicultural and multilingual settings.
- Familiarity with GED, TABE, CLAS-E, CEFR, ACCUPLACER, or similar adult education assessments.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills.

Schedule
Monday–Thursday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (In-Person) Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Virtual, unless otherwise required)
Compensation
Annual Salary: $61,927 - $97,458 Commensurate with Experience
