Position Overview
Staxmatic is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Project Engineer to support the successful execution of large-scale commercial Mechanical and Plumbing (MEP) construction projects across Texas. This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for candidates with a background in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field who are looking to grow within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and owners to keep projects on schedule, within budget, and fully compliant from pre-construction through final closeout. You will manage critical project documentation, coordinate submittals and RFIs, support procurement and scheduling, and serve as a key communication link between field operations and office teams. Key Responsibilities
-
Manage, organize, and track all project documentation including contracts, submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and compliance records using project management software

Prepare, log, and expedite submittal packages for mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and piping systems; ensure timely review and approval by engineers and owners

Generate, track, and respond to RFIs; coordinate responses between field teams, engineers of record, and design consultants to minimize delays and maintain project flow

Assist with quantity takeoffs, material procurement, and equipment buyout to support project budgets and cost controls

Maintain up-to-date project schedules, Gantt charts, and look-ahead schedules in coordination with the Project Manager and Superintendent

Support review and interpretation of construction drawings, specifications, mechanical plans, and piping isometrics

Assist with change order preparation, cost tracking, and budget reconciliation across all phases of the project lifecycle

Coordinate project closeout documentation including O&M manuals, as-built drawings, warranty packages, lien waivers, and punch list tracking

Serve as a communication link between field operations, project management, engineering, and ownership teams to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and budget

Support subcontractor onboarding, qualification reviews, workforce tracking, and compliance management including safety certifications and insurance documentation

Attend and document OAC meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and internal project status meetings; distribute meeting minutes and action items

Assist with MEP coordination, clash detection, and BIM/3D model reviews in collaboration with the engineering and field teams

Monitor material deliveries, equipment lead times, and procurement status to prevent supply chain delays on active projects
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

2–5 years of experience in construction project engineering, project coordination, or project management support on commercial construction projects

Experience managing project documentation including submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and closeout packages

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, mechanical plans, piping isometrics, and project specifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate across field, office, engineering, and ownership teams

Solid organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
Work Environment

Office-based with regular site visits to active commercial construction jobsites

Must be able to navigate active construction sites including uneven terrain, ladders, and elevated areas

Ability to work in varying weather conditions during site visits

Texas-based projects; travel to project sites within the region is required
