The Genomics Technician is involved in NGS sample intake, NGS sample QC, NGS sample processing, culminating in Sequencer (Illumina/Element) operation. Additionally, based on the workload of projects handled by the facility at any given time, the position will provide supplementary assistance to other teams as needed and determined by the Director.
Responsibilities:
Operates the Facility’s sample QC equipment, which includes the fragment analyzer, the bio-analyzer, qubit and the qPCR instruments.
Operates the Facility’s sequencing equipment (Illumina NovaSEQ / Element AVITI).
Additional Core operated platforms, as guided by the Director.
Administrative processing of new work / projects and the associated client communication emails.
Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
The Genomics Facility provides access to advanced genomics technologies to the client researchers. These technologies include Single-Cell Genomics, Next-Generation Sequencing, Micro-arrays, Sanger Sequencing as well as general nucleic acid sample QC and processing. The facility is part of the client.
Education
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Experience
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through <2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred is a minimum of 3-6 months prior experience in a genomics research lab setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communicate internally with co-workers and externally with Facility clients.
Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Detail oriented with strong sense of work ownership.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform lab-based tasks for an extended period of time.
