The Department of Anthropology at the University at Albany, SUNY, within the College of Arts and Sciences is a dynamic, research-active unit within the College of Arts and Sciences dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of humanity across time and space. Anthropology at UAlbany examines the full range of human experience?from human evolution and ancient societies to contemporary cultures and global systems?through a holistic and comparative approach. The department is organized around the four core subfields of anthropology: archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology, with faculty conducting research across these areas on topics including human health and evolution, material culture and past societies, language and social life, and the cultural, political, and economic dynamics of contemporary communities. The department maintains strong theoretical and regional concentrations, including applied, medical, and historical anthropology, with research spanning regions such as Mesoamerica and North America. It offers a full complement of academic programs, including the BA, MA, and PhD in Anthropology, as well as undergraduate degrees in Linguistics (BA) and Human Biology (BS). Across all levels, the department emphasizes hands-on, faculty-mentored learning through coursework, laboratory work, and field-based research, including archaeological field schools and community-engaged projects, preparing students for careers in academia, public service, cultural resource management, health-related fields, and other professions that require a deep understanding of human diversity and social complexity.

The Department of Anthropology seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor (academic -year appointment) for 2026-27 Academic year in the Department of Anthropology with teaching obligations for a large and growing undergraduate major in Human Biology. We seek a biological anthropologist able to teach lab sections for Human Anatomy and Physiology (AANT 316/AANT 318), as well as upper-level courses in Biological Anthropology/Human Biology. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience and research interests that complement existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of three courses per semester.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teaching lab sections for Human Anatomy and Physiology (AANT 316/ AANT 318), as well as upper-level courses in Biological Anthropology/Human Biology, or other courses as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree or terminal degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally accrediting organization.

Experience teaching at the college or university level.

Experience in teaching human anatomy and physiology at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree or terminal degree in Biological Anthropology, Biology or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

Experience in teaching undergraduates in Biological Anthropology, Biology or related discipline.
Working Environment:
