I worked for American Mobile for several assignments over the years. I started working for them when I was younger and less hip to the travel assignment world. I thought things were okay, until I got an assignment to Hawaii. I paid for my ticket (up front, as is required), and at the last minute, the hospital canceled the job. American Mobile would not reimburse me for my ticket. 

I went with another company after that, but came back to give them a 2nd chance. My recruiter was horrible, incompetent, and would send my profile to hospitals in places where she had not even spoken to me about...places I had no intention of going, then she would try to convince me to go, saying that the hospital really wanted me. 

I took one assignment, and found out that I was being paid $5.00 less an hour than travelers from other companies, and I was placed in an old, roach infested place, and when I asked to move to the apartment where the other companies housed their travelers, I was told that I would have to pay a share of the rent. I moved out and rented a hotel room on my own,

I then, stupidly, took another assignment with them. My recruiter gave me the wrong start date, so I left home to drive 3000 miles away (from the west coast to the east coast). Half way into my drive, my recruiter calls me and says my start date is a week later...her mistake. I am not allowed to start earlier due to oreintation, and when I asked where I was going to stay, they said I could move into the apartment, but had to pay rent because I wasn't working. It was HER mistake, so I fought it. They agreed to eat the cost, but when I got my check, after working 40.5 hours, they paid me $166.55. This was after I lost a week of pay ($1200.00) by leaving early, losing another week of pay by not being allowed to start at the new assignment, and waiting another week to get the 1st paycheck. 

After 3 weeks with no money, they gave me 166.55. I was livid, could not pay my bills, and when I said something, they gave me an advance of $300.00 and charged me a $25.00 processing fee. AFTER "THEIR" RECRUITER MADE A MISTAKE!!!! 

They then informed me that they would take more rent money from 2 more checks after that. 

I eventually quit. Now, they want ME to pay THEM for not completing a contract, where I was basically working for hardly any money.  I never did get the pay they promised either, They said the job paid $25.50/ hour, but it never added up, with their funny math. I drove 3000 miles from home, which cost much more ($1000.00) than the measely $300 travel reimbursement I had to fight to get from them, and I guess they fgured since they weren't paying me, and I was so far from home, I would have to stay there and work for them, just to get back home. Basically, I lost about $3000.00, in 3 weeks,  messing with American Mobile.

They then banned me from all of their companies (Nurses RX, NurseFinders, American Mobile, and some other one), like I would EVER want to work for them again. Thieves and liars!!!

If you are considering a position with AMN as an International Recruiter for the OGPI branch, here is my experience. When I first began with this company in 2020 I was working as a Community Liaison. I loved the work, meeting all the nurses from different countries. My supervisor was fantastic, always supportive and helpful with any issues. I would give this portion of my employment with the company a straight 5 stars. The only reason that I left this position was that I was wanting something full time with health benefits. In 2021 I moved into the recruiting position. That job I loved as well, interacting with the nurses from all around the world knowing that what I was doing was creating such a positive life change for them. Some of the other people that I worked with where also very nice though there isn’t a lot of interaction in a remote position like the traditional in-office position. At the time I was hired I was told it was a 6-month position with health benefits and bonuses. Once I received my contract it had no specifics regarding the length of the contract and no mention of the bonuses. I called the Sr. Director of Recruitment and Operations and was told that this was the standard OGPI contract. All are “at will” contracts and bonuses aren’t addressed as they fluctuate from quarter to quarter. I later found out that this was not how all the contracts are done at all. I didn’t receive my computer with access to everything until after my first week of training and the it took a month for IT to get it all properly set up and working. The training I received was lacking and only prepared me for a portion of the job. The rest you learned as you stumbled into it. My direct supervisor frequently cancelled our one-on-one sessions and it was common practice for mistakes by an individual to be called out on the group Teams chat. My contract which was supposed to be 6 months was ended at the end of the 4th month and I received no bonuses for the contracts that I closed (over 125). A couple weeks I even had more contracts than anyone else. The job was then posted as open. I applied and was interviewed. On the day of my last scheduled one-on-one, my direct supervisor canceled last minute. This was immediately followed up by the call from the Sr. Director of Recruitment and Operations calling to tell me that I was not given the job but they had decided to go another direction and tried to immediately hang up. When I asked why I didn’t get the job was told it went to someone more qualified who could provide the group a longer fit…translation they are looking for someone younger (I am 60). She honestly could not have been more callous in her communication. I was suddenly out 2 months pay, given no bonuses and just before the holidays. So if you do apply for this company, get anything they promise in writing.

AMN has a high turn over rate for a reason. This company brings you in, gives you a crash course training for your role using their own homegrown programs/systems, and expects you to just roll with the punches and figure it out. They entice you with a decent (but still not sustainable) hourly rate for most positions (depending on what department you could start between $16-$20 an hour) and good benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k, life insurance, discounts at certain retailers, etc). However, considering most employees have at least a bachelor's degree and come into the company having already been in their respective field a few years, this is pretty low paying for the excessive workload most departments face, which usually require a minimum of 10 hours of overtime a week. Employees are constantly told if they do not finish all of the work that is expected of them (even when there are not enough employees to support the workload) they have to do mandatory overtime, which sometimes includes working on weekends (this is not exclusive to one department). This is not an ethical practice as employees are basically guilted into working excessively. Even when you do stay for overtime, you are constantly berated for what you have not accomplished instead of being built up by management for what you have, which drags down team morale and causes resentment. This company is metrics driven, which means your work performance is solely based on your production, which wouldn't be an issue if there were not factors like lack of communication and understanding between departments that affect how much work you can accomplish because you need to gather information from internal partners to actually do your job. Don't even bother trying to tell management how you feel because they don't care to take the time to invest in employees on a personal level unless you are the type of person who blindly says "how high?" when someone asks you to jump. Not to mention, some members of leadership are very unprofessional in their communication with employees, including belittling team members in front of their peers and using profanity casually in the workplace. The lack of support from management is company wide and I believe that if asked, any employee who is not in a leadership role would say the same.  A word of advice to AMN: Hire professional leaders who actually lead, not just people who want to attend meetings all day and are not willing to roll up their sleeves to assist with the workload when their employees are overloaded.

Started to work with StaffCare in March for June 1st assignment. I am an anesthesiologist, clean work history, never in any trouble, just a bit restless, looking for greener pastures perhaps too often. Amount of work I had to do to get credentialed just in StaffCare was incredible; some of my emails were lost and had to be resent, contact was lost with some people  for a while few times- but I kept going in good faith. I did not only some blood work at my cash expense but also drug test 3 months before my job was supposed to start- what good did it do? Drug tests are only credible for 30 days. Working full time, having busy family life and meeting those paperwork requirement was continuous sacrifice, heavy, heavy work. So 2 weeks before my assignment was starting- and 2 days after I quit my current job- StaffCare informs me that privileges could not be obtained by June so my assignment was moved to unknown day "hopefully in August". I asked what was I supposed to do without job for 2-3 months- no answer. Every physician knows how hurtful it could be to have more than 30 days gap in your work history. I was shocked to see how lightly these people took their obligation - or was it at all? thought- to provide me with the job. I am from Chicago, always worked in Chicago and know on many examples : when hospital needs you they give you temporary privileges right away- sometimes within 2 weeks. So I did not buy StaffCare's reassurances that all the guilt rests with the hospital which has to get response from Central Verification Office about all my entries etc. That would be somewhat justifiable if I had even one blemish in my history- but I don't! Maybe their client was trying hard to staff without expense of locum tenens company while not burning their bridges completely, maybe they had other things going - but how did I fit that equation? It is my life, my carrier, my family's livelihood were dependent on this assignment - and StaffCare took all of this completely irresponsibly. To add to the bitterness of that cup StaffCare never reimbursed me for their requested blood work ( immunization titers); I talked to manager and they " are thinking about it". What a fiasco! I am so glad I have spotless work history and found myself work momentarily- without 3 months for credentialing. Good luck to those who put all their trust into locum tenens assignment! Not sure about other companies, but this experience has been a disaster.

Maybe people don't realize this, but there are companies that have their HR dept. make fake reviews on the internet to bring up those 5 star ratings. Please beware of those 5 star reviews.

I am not one of them, so i can give you my honest experience.

I've worked with traveling companies in many hospitals  for over 10 years, and this one is the worst - other than Accountable Healthcare Staffing.

I learned over time, to make stipulations to my contracts due to facilities changing their hours, days and shifts upon arrival.  

Also, little things like internet (maybe cable isn't a big deal), decent housing, "heating" if you're in Alaska, and air-conditioning if you're in humid places like Florida. 

Club staffing refuses to provide those "little things".  Sorry folks, but in this day and age, internet is a necessity if they need to communicate with you via email - but they want YOU to pay for it? 

Another thing i've observed with Club Staffing is if you're waiting to make a decision about working at a facility the recruiter will use this strange tactic: They will tell the facility that you have already accepted the position - without your permission.  Yes, this has happened to me twice.  The first time it happened, i felt obligated because the recruiter said that even though i had not signed the contract - i was still under obligation. 

This time, i did not let it happen again.  A signature is binding.  Not a recruiter that is so eager to get their hands on that commission that they will lie to the facitlity and tell them you've accepted - when you're still trying to make a decision.

All i can say to those that have had this happen - please stand your ground with your recruiter.  Many of them are saying "jobs are scarce", etc.  Yes, we know that.  But we're coming up on a rebound.  Yes, you may have to wait. Or maybe work for different companies in order to keep a steady income.  This is not a bad thing.  It is better to work for a variety of companies so that you can have more knowledge about them at the end of your assignments.  

I definitely learned a lot after working with this company.

The typical day at work was coming into work determining how you were going to get through the day with increased unmanageable work loads. The credentialing environment  is operated as a sales environment which lacks quality and is all about quantity. The leadership within the credentialing department is a job from account management which yells  at you for things outside of your control to the facilities that your working with because what they say goes regardless  whatever it is they are asking you for is in their contract or not(even though the policy is not to provide anything outside of whats in the contract). The direct supervisor and managers are horrible  and are toxic and fuel  a hostile work environment. The management acts as if they care however I have heard several of upper leadership(VP's and Directors and Sr. manager)   talking down and negatively about  other staff members and about other members of leadership. The motto for this company is to pile unmanageable work loads on one person and discipline them when they can't keep up with these unrealistic demands.The clinicians that AMN  and its subsidiaries help place at these facilities are incompetent to put things lightly. They expect you to have a workload of 50 clinicians at one time and being able to credentials these clinicians with quality while the upper management yells at you for not meeting numbers (HORRIBLE ENVIRONMENT). The training is HORRIBLE I repeat HORRIBLE I would not risk this on my worst enemy. The crazy thing is that management and departmental heads have admitted that training has been a issue for years but refuse to fix things.  We lost 2 people over the span of 2.5 months and one of those was the supervisor.The highlights: Incompetent clinicians,Incompetent Management,Unrealistic metrics  and High Stress environment. The CREDENTIALING DEPT. is a SALES Environment and is not ran like a traditional credentialing environment. Please  DO NOT let them sell you a dream because everything that glitters isn't gold.

Onward Health Travel Nurse Agency was horrible. They did not pay me what I was contracted for, would not give me the sign on bonus after my one year anniversary.And did not pay me for my last three weeks of employment and would not tell me why.

I worked in Monroe,La for 18 months at St. Cabrini. I worked the telemetry floor. I would often charge,do generalized nursing duties, computerized charting, interpreting telemetry strips and notifying the nursing supervisor and the Dr with any changes. Had good rapport with co-workers. As the only travel nrse on that floor if anyone had to be pulled it was me. I floated to the geriatric floor and quickly learned they had their own way of doing things and they did not appreciate coming to help them. Had no problems with management and in fact received good evaluations but when I looking for another agency the recruiter caled my clinical manager and gave me a horrible reccomendation. When I spoke to her about this she denied it and said she would never give anyone a bad reccomendation. I left Monroe because administration decided they could not afford travel nurses any longer.

From there I moved to Little Rock,AR abd workd at Baptist health Center on the cardiac stepdown unit. I enoyed this floor. AQll but one nurse on the entire foor were travel nurses. Management liked me and I had a good relationship with them as well as my co-workers
We generally work up to 104 hours with overtime because we were so short staffed. I left the Hospitl because administration sent letters to the travel nurses Agencies that from tha point on the Agency would have to pay the overtime and would not be reimbursed by the hospital. My six month contract was up and the agency told me to leave the hospital. They said they could not find any nursing jobs in the south and I didn't want to move far away from my family so I left travel nursing

What is the best part of working at the company?
My manager is very good and understanding.
Be careful with the recruiters they low ball you and then you are stuck with the rate,the recruiters are not truthful about scheduling either. 
They will promise you one schedule then after you have finish the whole interview process they will say .they “got an email from scheduling team and that time is not available anymore “.
So it’s take it or leave it ,they did that to everyone. 
Also they will not guarantee the days off they have promised in the interview ,their recruiters are awful.
Not honest at all ,company is good but having those recruiters as gatekeepers was the reason,a few are with a bad image of the company. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some toxic cultures around new hires and veterans .
Training is not very hands on about the platform ,a lot of general very good information about privacy and interpretation in general.But not focus on every day work.
Not trouble shooting.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Veiled competition,passive aggressive jokes and boasting about experience.
Important to have thick skin. 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Back to back ,breaks are not always taken at the same time,after 5 minutes break it’s protocol to call escalation explaining why you were offline more than 5 minutes. (in the 6 minutes mark ) .

All the calls to Attendance Line (where we report) are recorded,so if you  cannot work a day because you are sick,you need to call explain the reason etc.

All unexcused  absences must be used PTO,if you don’t have it,it will become negative PTO.
So every hour is very well monitored,and there is a Team Lead as well ,that will check on you . 
And monitor your calls periodically.

Overall, my experience with AMN Healthcare was generally good, but with significant challenges.

The company requires a very high level of organization and strict adherence to procedures. Employees must clock in and out precisely, complete required training daily during work shifts, and strictly follow break guidelines. Breaks longer than five minutes require calling the attendance line, and even time spent in work-related training during that period may still be marked as unexcused. Accumulating three unexcused instances in a month can lead to termination, which felt excessively rigid.

The workload and expectations were demanding, sometimes unreasonably so. System issues occasionally occurred (such as freezes or outages), and employees could be falsely accused of wrongdoing due to technical failures beyond their control.

On a positive note, colleagues and team leads were kind, professional, and supportive, which made day-to-day work more pleasant.

Unfortunately, my direct manager significantly impacted my experience negatively. I experienced a lack of support, empathy, and fairness. The manager displayed behavior I perceived as discriminatory and unprofessional, particularly toward certain coworkers. While communication via Teams was generally professional, live meetings often felt cold, dismissive, passive-aggressive, and at times included false accusations. I frequently felt singled out and blamed for issues outside of my control.



Even though the job is remote, you still have a fixed schedule you have to show up for. You’re unable to log in and out as you please. Breaks are short and they depend on how many hours you work in a shift, and depending on the day, your break time will change. Calls are so back to back you probably won’t get to your break on time or get off on your scheduled time, and it’s frowned upon to reject calls. You get $15-$16 an hour to be a Spanish over the phone interpreter, I’m sure for VRI it’s a bit more but for other languages they get much higher rates. Training is very long and exhausting it’s about 2 weeks. You do get paid for training though. They also send you all of the equipment you need which is nice. You have to constantly keep in communication with your manager and your team (teams are based on language of interpreters) which is incredibly annoying. You have to say in the group each time you log in to start work, when you go on break, when you’re back from break, and when you log out. The nice thing is you can easily communicate with people if you need someone to cover your shift or take a call for you. But it feels like you’re a child having to constantly report to management. You also have “assignments” which are usually short videos you have to watch and some include quizzes, you’re expected to complete them in between the back to back calls. And you can’t go on “break” to do the assignments, only when you’re done with your shift or between calls. It’s an ok workplace if you need something just for the time being but not something that’s good long term.
