Working in the FPS Program is truly a draining place to work. Management isn't well-trained leading to staff not being well-trained. When problems arise, it falls on you despite lack of training and working there being like the blind leading the blind. None of the individuals in management are familiar with the area and that also makes things difficult for those of us that work hands on with clients. Mercer County has its own unique challenges and management refuses to accept this and give us the tools needed to do our jobs effectively. Going into work everyday is a miserable experience. So much so, that I avoid going into the office. That is one of the advantages of job, it is indeed a flexible one. You create your schedule based on your availability and the client's needs. That and weekly pay are the only advantages. Other than that, management is filled with smooth-talkers who make everything sound nice, but in reality offer little support and have no idea what they're doing.

I started at Acenda almost 2 years ago. At first I enjoyed my time here. Over time, however, working at Acenda became worse and worse. The increased lack of staffing, lack of pay, changes in the EHR, and lack of support is tiresome. The work environment is not healthy. I am burnt out from my position, as I am the only person in my entire program. I believe Acenda means well, but they have to start treating their employees better. There would be no Acenda without the people doing the ground work in the field. I think they forget this. Acenda has to start paying their employees better, it’s simple. You’ll be able to hire more people with better salaries, and keep the people you still have. Give your employees incentive to stay. As much as I want Acenda to succeed, I’m not sure it will. Change needs to happen before the agency goes under. Upper management needs to work with their employees and listen. I am sad to leave the agency, but things need to change.

Acenda (formerly NewPoint Behavioral Health) Once the former New Point Behavioral Health was taken over by Acenda the company became an unpleasant environment. Although the form NPBH was low in their pay grades, they made up for it by paid time off and being very family oriented and care about their staff.  Acenda expected you to take on several positions with hardly any training and no increase in pay.  Also, they took a week of vacation away and all time has to be used by the end of the year (no carry over of time).  The pay grade is extremely low for the amount of work you're expected to produce and for this day and age.  They need better training and support supplied to staff at all levels. The good part about the job was staff I worked with from the former NPBH.  Even though a week of vacation was taken away the time, vacation/personal & sick time was still a good benefit.  The 401K benefits are also good.

Staff is expected to do extra, off clock, spend own money and do the work of 2-3 people routinely. Management is focused on optics and is entrenched. If senior staff decide to dislike a worker, it is very noticeable and work life made very difficult. HR is not supportive of workers and has no confidentiality.  No yearly pay raises. Huge turn over.  Excepting the entrenched upper management, staff tends to be young and inexperienced.  Anyone who has had jobs can see the difficult working conditions and leaves quickly.  Program Managers manage in name only and are micromanaged by the Upper Management.  Lower level staff encouraged to complain about managers thereby creating an atmosphere where managers fear to correct inadequate work performances by staff.  Overall atmosphere of fear and distrust with many practicing CYA.

I felt good about the work we did and we were encouraged to give the clients our best; it was not all about the money or numbers.  In the process of getting my LPCMH license, I had supervision there that was insightful, inspiring and productive; our supervisor wanted us to achieve all that we could.  I felt this was the most productive time in my career in learning the ropes of being a therapist outside of the college classroom with practical application of the knowledge I gained.  

If the accident with my 5 year old grandson had not occurred, I would still be there.  It was an hour commute one way.

This agency has a strong mission statement but does not follow it. The agency only cares about expanding, making more money and looking good to the public. The agency does not provide real opportunities for staff to grow. There is absolutely no room for advancement and the pay is HORRIBLE. Management also lacks basic supervision knowledge. They expect you to meet their demands however do not provide enough support for you to meet them. These people are clueless! I cannot count how many program director and supervisor changes I have seen. The upper management is extremely condescending, the job is not worth your sanity. 

The company means well. Unfortunately the people they hire to supervise their essential team members are not quality. I started the job as a youth counselor which I loved. I worked individually with troubled and neglected youth in Salem county. We set goals and worked weekly hand in hand on accomplishing them as sometimes required by juvenile probation or court orders. I attended court hearings for referrals and YSC meetings monthly.
 Throughout my time with the company I was asked or sometimes volunteered to help with other programs which eventually became overwhelming and stressful.

I work in visitation services and have had nothing but problems since 3 months into my employment with Acenda. I am biased because of my terrible experience with management in my department, so I’m not sure what other departments are like. The pay is absolutely horrible for the amount of work that needs to be done. Management couldn’t care less about anything that goes on out in the field because they don’t have to deal with clients. Training is awful and completely insufficient. I truly feel that the company as a whole disregard their employees concerns and needs.

I worked with this agency for about 12 years.  I had the privilege of working with a great psychiatrist and RN who were flexible, knowledgeable and went over and above for their clients.  They taught me what it meant to value our clients and to see them as individuals.  I had a great director who would make time for you whenever you needed it.  Overall it was a great place to work and a very family like, supportive atmosphere.  Some of the best working years of my life.
