I attended an induction for this role but decided not to continue afterwards.

The induction gave a very negative first impression of the workplace. The tone from management was heavily focused on strict expectations and consequences rather than support or training. Communication was also unclear at times, with one of the managers being difficult to understand and one frequently using unprofessional language/ hand gestures to swear at each other. None of them had anything nice/positive to say about anybody behind each others back that’s including the managers talking about current staff to the staff talking about the managers. 

There was a strong emphasis on attendance and performance rules, with little consideration given to personal circumstances such as appointments or outside commitments. To them- business above the little robots they’ve hired. It was made clear that flexibility is very limited, with the attitude that business needs come first in all situations.

It was also mentioned that the company is expanding and opening multiple locations, including this one being a particularly busy site. However, shift lengths are kept relatively short, and it was stated that operational costs are a key factor in how staffing and breaks are managed. This raised concerns about workload and whether staff are given adequate rest during shifts.

Upselling and hitting sales targets were presented as mandatory expectations for staff, which felt quite pressured for an entry-level role.

Overall, while there may be benefits to the role, I personally found the environment quite intense and the management style unprofessional. It did not feel like a supportive place to work, so I chose not to continue.

Overall, it's a pretty good place to work. Everyone gets along pretty well and most of the work is talking (checking people in, taking payment, doing tours, explaining the games, and answering questions). There is a learning curve if you don't have a lot of experience with electronics, but the tech you handle regularly doesn't take long to learn. You are not allowed to sit on shift unless you are on break, so most of the day you are standing in one spot or walking around which can get tiring. The hub area is very loud from people screaming, music, and game noise so it can be difficult to give instructions and often times you will have to yell for guests to hear you. The closing time is also when we take our last reservation, so on closing shifts it is very unpredictable to know when you will get off since we can't clean parts of the store until all guests have left. If you are outgoing, able to work well under pressure, and work well with a team, you will succeed in this job.

This job offers good experience for those in high school who want to go into STEM. Not only does it give hands on experience with fixing tech and learning skills like soldering from management or behind the scene tech that goes into the games, high school students can gain valuable skills from this job like team building and socializing which is great for communication in jobs outside of the company if they eventually move out. There is a good flow of stress that helps high school students learn how to balance work and life yet at the same time remain fun.  The only hardest parts about the job is the  loud sounds from children and adults screaming can get overwhelming, along with having to stand all day except for when you're on break. You also will need a good, loud voice to communicate to guests because of how loud the place gets when you are giving introductions in the gaming hub, but those are the only warnings I have. Side note, we are all friends at Activate Plano and we all get along together so if you think about joining don't worry about fitting in!

I was genuinely excited to work here at first. The games were creative, and I enjoyed engaging with guests and seeing their reactions. I even spent personal time improving my intro scripts to make the experience better for customers. The team atmosphere was initially supportive, and I felt like I was making a positive impact.

Unfortunately, my hours were slowly cut back to just one shift per week, despite consistently receiving good feedback from coworkers and supervisors. This made it difficult to stay motivated, especially since I wasn’t given any clear reason for the reduction.

Things also shifted when upper management cracked down on phone use during downtime but didn’t provide any meaningful tasks to fill that time. It created a frustrating and stagnant environment where we were often left with nothing to do.

The guest-facing part of the job was rewarding, and the energy can be contagious when things are running well. But getting consistent hours and feeling valued by leadership were ongoing challenges.

I find a lot of enjoyment in my coworkers and most of management, however corporate views employees as below them and enforces somewhat ridiculous rules. I do enjoy working at this company because it is a fun place and customers look very happy when they leave. The company has a no sitting rule which I know other companies do but I personally find unnecessary. It can be ungodly busy on weekends or on weekdays it's completely dead, we do not have a moderate pace. The closing rule is also quite a weird rule. We HAVE to stay past closing if someone books at closing and then staying another half hour to clean can take until 1 AM depending on the day. There are also cameras which are mostly for security but corporate and GM's will watch them to see if employees are doing their job which feels untrusting and sometimes fearful. Overall, I do enjoy working here but the rules and corporate are something I dislike and do not agree with.

2 out of 3 managers are super nice and chill, the other one is a different story. They loved to choose favorites and if you weren't one of them you were on their "bad" list of workers and they will avoid you. Coworkers were great besides the ones that kissed butt to the manager who picks favorites but other than that, the pay is not worth what they expect you to do. They only hire part time to make sure they don't have to give you benefits. Corporate constantly complains about the workers hitting overtime (Which never happened besides when the store first opened and workers worked for 9 days straight with no off day) So people will only be able to work 3-4 days at most and if they ask you for an extra day they will cut you early so they don't get yelled at by corporate even though the management can't schedule the right amount of workers for the busy days. If their wasn't the favorites issue and corporate constantly being down your back it's not a bad job but only hiring 18+ for what they pay is not worth. You will have to get a second job to make ends meet.

A day in the life starts or ends with opening/closing down the facility, as you would anywhere else. The tasks are most definitely not daunting. Simple things such as shutting down the arenas, Making sure supplies and rewards are in order, and then standard cleaning(wiping down surfaces, throwing out trash, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, etc.)  There are 2 main "sections" to every day to day, the front desk and the hub. Both are prioritized around providing a great experience for the guests. Basic responsibilities of these are answering the phones, booking guests, having guest fill out waivers/ player profiles, handing out rewards and wristbands, informing them on how to correctly use the facility, and assisting them with solving any problems or answering any questions they might have. Occasionally, you may be involved in fixing the Arenas.

I was targeted by management simply because the general manager didn’t like me. Despite my consistent effort and dedication, I was treated unfairly compared to others. I always arrived on time, went above and beyond to ensure guests were well taken care of, and even helped my coworkers by picking them up and dropping them off—even though they lived 20 minutes away, while I lived just five minutes from the workplace. The Alpharetta General Manager was fully aware of my efforts but chose not to hold my coworkers to the same standards, showing clear favoritism and bias in his treatment of employees.

A typical morning shift; coming in an hour before opening, cleaning and preparing for bookings throughout the day, being either up at the front desk taking bookings as guests arrive and call, or being in the back giving guests introductions on how to play, and monitoring the area.

I've learned that the norm of "never liking your coworkers" doesn't have to be true.

It is the absolute best management team I've had at a job before. The GMs are compassionate, patient, and good at what they do. The ASMs never leave you stranded and are incredibly helpful.

The workplace culture is amazing here, it's probably the only job you can wake up at 8 am for and still be excited to go to. It's uplifting and fun.

The hardest part of the job is dealing with certain customers.

The most enjoyable part of the job is talking to the team, and getting to play our games.

Best part about to company is meeting really cool people and improving on maintenance skills

The most stressful part is working with a team that some times is incompetent or feeling like big brother is always watching you

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work culture was okay, depends on if you have cool co-workers. This is case by case but in my experience I’ve been screwed over by the company not only once,twice, but three times. Manager didn’t care about communication to people other than team leads. Team leads don’t have a single idea what to do or how to communicate to GF’s and don’t get any backlash when they mess up or do something wrong.
