I had the pleasure of working as a Mobile Crisis Counselor with Advancing Communities Everywhere (ACE) for the past 6 months. Although my time with the organization was shorter than I anticipated due to unforeseen personal circumstances that required a move out of state, I want to express how truly positive and impactful my experience was.

From day one, ACE provided an incredibly supportive and welcoming environment. The training was thorough, and I was consistently impressed by the organization's commitment to serving the community with integrity, compassion, and professionalism. The staff and leadership genuinely care about both their clients and their employees.

During my transition to another state, ACE showed remarkable understanding and support. Not only did they assist in making my departure as smooth as possible, but they also encouraged me to continue pursuing my path toward licensure in professional counseling. That kind of encouragement meant a lot, and it reflected ACE's commitment to the growth and success of their team members—even beyond their time with the company.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) in particular stood out as a strong and knowledgeable leader. While direct and transparent in communication, the COO brought a wealth of expertise in both state regulations and best practices in the counseling and social work fields. I appreciated the clarity and insight she brought to every conversation, which made me a more informed and confident professional.

I also truly enjoyed working with my colleagues—compassionate, talented individuals who were always willing to collaborate and support one another in a fast-paced, ever-evolving field. In a profession that can be emotionally taxing and constantly changing, the camaraderie and team spirit at ACE made a real difference.

I leave ACE with nothing but gratitude and respect. If you're looking for a mission-driven organization where professionalism, growth, and genuine care for both clients and staff are priorities, I highly recommend Advancing Communities Everywhere.

A typical day includes providing clinical supervision, reviewing compliance documentation, supporting clinicians with case conceptualization, and ensuring quality service delivery to clients and families. The role requires balancing administrative oversight with mentorship and direct clinical guidance.

I’ve learned how to strengthen my leadership voice, navigate ethical decision-making in complex cases, and manage team dynamics while maintaining clinical integrity. The experience has sharpened my ability to support developing clinicians while keeping Client care at the center.

Management is supportive and accessible, with an emphasis on accountability and professional standards. Communication is generally clear, and leadership encourages growth and development.

The workplace culture is collaborative and mission-driven. Staff genuinely care about the populations served, which creates a strong sense of shared purpose.

The hardest part of the job can be managing high documentation demands and navigating systemic barriers that impact Client progress. The most enjoyable part is mentoring clinicians and seeing both staff and clients make measurable progress.

My experience at this company was extremely disappointing. Communication was often unprofessional and included yelling and public reprimands during meetings, particularly from the owner, who treated employees more like children than professionals. There was no structured training for new systems or process changes; staff were expected to figure things out on their own and then corrected for not doing it the "right way," sometimes having to redo work without additional compensation.

The environment feels chaotic and hostile, with leadership more focused on making money than supporting staff or the community they say they serve. The owner frequently made inappropriate or unprofessional comments, even stating outright that she’s “here to get money,” using that as motivation. Many employees raised concerns, but little changed. Several team members have left and shared frustrations company-wide just to be heard.

Overall, it’s a toxic workplace with mismanagement at every level, disorganized operations, and a lack of concern for both employees and clients. I would not recommend this employer to anyone seeking a healthy or respectful work environment.

I Enjoy My Work here. Employees are provided the opportunity to showcase their skills to the company and in return receive additional growth and opportunities back. There are lots of opportunities for growth and advancement at ACE whether it's professional skills, information for additional education, or promotions to other positions within the company. ACE views their employees as individuals and assists them in learning to collaborate together to produce a well oiled machine that just keeps getting bigger, better, and faster. My typical day at work consists of assisting clients maintain/or enhance their mental health daily via documentation. Management is always available, always ready with listening ears and watching eyes, and ready to execute action to a solution for the success of their clients. The most enjoyable part of the job is the office staff and their eagerness to complete their daily task each day for the clients advancing competents.   

In the field of mental health, sometimes the mental health employer neglects that part of their workers. At ACE they have made me feel that they care about the mental health and work/life balance of their employees. If your mental state is imbalanced then we cannot be productive in our work. My supervisor, HR team, and the Owner, all express understanding, flexibility, and compassion for life circumstances so long as the job is being done too! It creates more willingness to put in time and effort and avoids less burnout for me when there are phases of life that are a little tougher than others times and helps me bounce back to be more successful! If I’m successful then they are too! I truly enjoy working with management and my coworkers. 

This company does not care about the community it serves. At times it feels like they care more about making money than they do about doing right by their clients. There is not enough formal training in this company, and poor communication from upper management, which often sets individuals up for failure. Expect unpredictability, as leadership tends to make impulsive business decisions that adversely affect its employees and clients. At times leadership would have unreasonable expectations and offered little to no support. Morale tended to be low at our office location. High turnover.  If you really want to "advance communities," I urge you to look elsewhere. 

This was one of the most toxic workplaces. Management are akin to bullies. They do not like questions asked, which raises suspicion regarding business practices. There is no professionalism and the company is run by a younger generation, who do not have the life experience to appreciate work-life balance. I always felt like I was walking on eggshells. My ideas for improving the workplace environment and work flow were poorly received. I felt like I didn't matter at ACE. At 2 months of employment, I was told my position would change from FT with benefits to 1099 contractor. This was a reflection of a lack of marketing and outreach effort to find clients, which was not my role. In this time, another office location was opened. I no longer felt comfortable working for a company who put my professional license in jeopardy. The pay was great, but it felt like hush money. 

ACE is a great company to work for. I've seen reviews about management being 'bullies' or unreceptive to questions or concerns from their staff, but that couldn't be further from the truth in my experience. They are very accommodating and understanding when it comes to personal and family emergencies and always look for the best ways to support their staff. The best part about ACE is how they show appreciation for their employees, and all of the hard work we do. They do this through employee of the month appreciation, annual holiday parties where they thank their employees, and more.

The environment is tense and uncomfortable. That causes the high turnover rate they have experienced. Your load will be increased due to management wanting to work harder and not smarter. And the companies organizational skills are 0/10. Management is not respectful of you. They have an “open door” policy and are “opened” to feedback. Once you voice your concerns you are rudely dismissed and talked about within the company. 

ACE is a place where others can grow and excel. There is opportunity to be heard and provide feedback in developing processes/improvements. Teamwork is essential . The employees are great problem solvers and are able to navigate through all presenting problems that arise internally/externally. This has been event with regulations always changing and the company needs as well. ACE strives to maintain professionalism, understanding, and fairness amongst all.
