In my tenure at Advent, while the offered remuneration aligns with industry standards and includes commendable amenities such as a gym and discounts, the overall work experience has been marred by significant drawbacks. The exterior facade of the hospital projects an image of cleanliness and precision, yet the interior hallways traversed by employees reveal a stark contrast, characterized by neglect and disarray.

The primary concern lies in the lack of organizational structure within the hospital. Notably, there exists an absence of objective standards or policies within the laboratory, leading to a dearth of procedural consistency. The adherence to a singular protocol, specifically the one outlined by CAP, underscores the absence of comprehensive guidelines for daily operations. Consequently, the absence of standardized procedures allows for subjective interpretations, wherein individuals determine workflows and approaches at their discretion.

A disconcerting aspect is the absence of leadership and oversight, as management is notably scarce in day-to-day operations. Limited visibility of management beyond periodic huddles and meetings contributes to an environment wherein employees are left to their own devices. The dearth of leadership fosters an atmosphere of unchecked freedom, albeit at the cost of fostering a culture of bullying, ultimately cultivating a toxic professional milieu.

Furthermore, the prevailing system operates on a seniority-based framework rather than valuing experiential expertise, thereby creating an environment wherein personal work ethics hold greater sway than proficiency. The lack of an equitable and standardized approach to training exacerbates this issue, as adherence to learned practices during orientation can be penalized by subjective judgments.

In essence, while Advent presents itself as an employer with competitive compensation and superficial amenities, the absence of structural organization, leadership, and standardized policies gives rise to a workplace culture that veers towards the detrimental, compromising the overall quality of the professional experience.

If you are capable and qualified, especially more so than your co-workers, they will consistently give you the hardest patients. ANMs and charge nurses will write and print discharge paperwork for your own patient just to try to get you to rush them out the door before morning medications are even given or the doctor has even explained they are discharged and answered their questions. They do this so the nursing supervisors think they are a good ANM/charge and the floor is doing well. Daily we have to meet for rounds with doctors (sneak in patients room, don't talk to nurse, and leave floor), charge nurse (at 9 am before you even know your patients), case management (may or may not be at rounds with charge RN), team huddle (at 12/1230 and lasts 15-30 minutes), and expected to diligently perform our tasks on time and get written up when we do not, or a Best Practice nurse finds you on your floor and questions you. For example they will approach you at the nurse's station regarding foley catheters, their timing and placement, need, and push for removal even on patients who require them. They new/younger experienced staff are overworked and overburdened. Compensation is not enough. There is never time for lunch breaks, while charge nurses or ANMs take 100 bathroom and snack breaks and watch you struggle without helping. Also do not think anyone should work with an associate in nursing and not a Bachelor's..... it shows in the nursing care

This ultrasound department could be a really great place to work with leadership that understood the complexities of the job more. Low pay, high volume, and understaffing contribute to low morale and high turnover. Ultrasound departments should be run by sonographers, not those with radiology backgrounds. It’s a niche career field with challenges that other modalities don’t grasp. Better on-boarding for new graduates, leadership support, and eliminating abusive call policies would work wonders in improving staff morale. Ongoing, hands-on training as well as adequate staffing  is needed as a small community hospital grows to take on more complex exams and pathologies. Advent Daytona has grown to more than a small community hospital but still has a mentality that the department can be run on bare minimum staffing. Do better and you will see the long term benefits. 

I have worked for them for a decade now, and just like most hospitals, they will mess with staffing to increase their productivity (A thorn in every nurse's side) and play around with admissions to bleed insurance dry. Shocker, right? They've been hiring former HCA employees in administrative positions lately, which would normally scare me (I refer to HCA as The Evil Empire), but instead, I've seen some changes for the better. Employees have more of a voice than they did 5 years ago and can enact change with a concerted effort. Some market adjustments have been made to help with pay, too. There is definitely a more profitable future here than the local community hospital, but only time will tell if these new administrators do more good than bad. I'd give them another 5 years, and if things aren't better, drop them like a bad habit.

This place is not the face of the prior Advent facility I worked at. No ancillary help. Nurse is expected to do the job of 5 people. Pick up trays, haul water and drinks as even the water is locked up. Do all vital signs, be lactation, assessment and meds. Baby screening, chart for hours and oh yeah patient care. 
New Epic EMR is all about the dollars. Not the patient. They even cut cranberry juice for out patients who are in labor and unable to eat. You can be fired for a pt complaint that she got a stronger pain Med than she wanted. Despite many fantastic complimentary letters and top notch performance appraisals. Way too many straight out of school nurses working labor. It’s scary! Run

The clinical staff ate wonderful and aligned  to the mission.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The executive leadership at AHDB is awful. Not in touch with what is actually going on in the hospital and spend too much time in meetings and micromanaging middle management. 


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is not good. Everyone is constantly worrying about their service scores and retention and do not hold people responsible for their jobs.

Being a dietary is hard work it's nothing like usually food service. It can't compare to how hard bussing can be but you are constantly working. You get a garenteed 30min break and an optional 15. Every job in the food department has a timeliness on what you should be doing at that time. The downside is how strict they are on call outs. As a hospital you'd expect them to be more understanding but they could care less. 3 call outs and a warning, 4-5 you'll get written up. 6-7 you'll be terminated all on a year roll calander. If you call off January 2nd 2020 you will have that on your file until January 2nd 2021. Just becareful who you trust there too.

Very satisfying & uplifting job helping & caring for people in need.

It was not a stressful job…worked at your own pace helping patients 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone worked like a team & knew what their job required & we worked efficiently together.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My job was visiting patients on the 10th floor of the hospital & visit each room & talk to every patient to help them have a comfortable stay.

I am a Care Manager for discharge planning. There are RNs (me) and SW in this role. I cannot say enough good things about the manager, director, admin assistant and supervisors. The sense of belonging was evident from day one. The job is very demanding and requires a sharp organized process that one can taylor to what works best for you. Teamwork is essential and practiced by all the staff. I am so happy here. 

They over work you , and push you to do more and faster, then reprimand you with write ups . We are humans not robots.  If you have kids, and are working forget about it. They are not family friendly, and scoff at you if your kid is sick and need to pick them up. Basically,  they want someone that doesn't have a life outside of work. The managers aside from one are nightmares...they sit at their desks on their phones ...and make you go to ridiculous meetings that cut j to your work. All this to say , the lab would function better without them
