What is the best part of working at the company?
The nurses are always friendly and work together as a team. They are always willing to help one another.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The PCU floor is poorly managed. The manager can be incredibly rude and when a nurse makes an error she calls them out during meetings and humiliates them in front of everyone. Those errors could have been avoided if they had a nurse leader on duty, but many days and nights the nurses have no leader to seek help from, but the manager feels the need to humilate the nurses in front of everyone instead of being accountable for lack of staff, management skills and nurse leadership. We need a leader to go to when we are in doubt or have questions.  We are given up to 6 patients. I was told if we receive 5 patients  we will have help from an LPN. They removed LPNs from our floor so we have no additional help besides our techs. Brand new nurses are only supposed have a max of 4 patients and they are not supposed to float to other floors, yet they give them 6 patients and float them sometimes. New nurses are not allowed to have over time but between all the educational meetings and online hours of education plus just the extra time it takes during shifts to give report, you will have overtime hours. If a new nurse gets overtime due to all their mandatory classes they will adjust your time card and remove your overtime. I know this for a fact because they do this to me every pay period. In stead of giving me overtime they will only pay me for 80 hours (biweekly). Night shift workers will have classes the same morning their shift is over, so after a 12 hour shift they are expected to go to another educational class for 2-4 hours.  They do not accommodate night shift workers whe n it comes to classes. The only reason I stay is because I love the nursing staff that I work with. This review is only based on the progressive care unit. I am not referencing the entire hospital, only PCU.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment is based on your team work with other nurses. PCU has a great group of nurses who are helpful and friendly with one another. Advent respects all cultures and beliefs. I would give advent 5 stars because of the nurses and cultural acceptance.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I usually have a good experience when I'm at work. I work night shift so it's quiet and I don't have to deal with the manager.

This is by far the hardest company to get along with. There’s no support from management. Staff will do what they want. Blame others. Make excuses. Leadership does not correct the issues. They turn around and everyone points fingers at everyone else. If you get hurt it’s your fault. If no one will help with a difficult task it’s your fault. If you have a day off expect a mandatory learning session. There’s no work life balance. This company will steal your soul and coerce you to believe they’re making you someone that matters. I achieved my B goals in My own way. Taken things I didn’t deserve and tried to move past them. Really truly tried for YEARS to find happiness but after seeing and working with so many miserable people unappreciative and lazy I think they really have ruined healthcare dreams I carried for 18 years. You’ll meet nurses on contracts that are counting their days. You have to truly be able to eat your pride and dignity. Take on more than you can actually handle and accept if anything happens they make it sound like you’re supported they have so much in place to protect you but they will kick you to the curb quick to save their own selves. The only joy at this hospital is when I have helped a patient and they appreciated my efforts and I followed the 5 p’s like we’re all supposed to be doing. 

RN to Patient ratio is 1:6 on most MedSurg units. AHO adopted a new LPN program, which brought the RN to Patient ratio to 1:7 on many units. Like anything new, change takes a little getting used to, especially for newer RNs. AHO also introduced virtual nursing on some units, which can be helpful, mostly with admissions and discharges. The VRNs round on patients and can serve as virtual sitters as well. The culture is positive and energizing, and there is an overall sense of camaraderie. AHO developed the Professional Excellence Program (PEP), which allows employees to advance in their professions. It's a great way to put advancement truly in the hands of the employee. All of which can improve employee satisfaction and patient outcomes.

Regarding management, middle management is abundant and can be burdensome as they strive to meet deadlines and achieve goals within their roles. Overall, AHO is an excellent place to work.

This would be a better place to work if management would focus more on patient care instead of micromanaging the staff. No one will die if you forget to write your initials on the white board, but management acts like the building is on fire because you forgot to write your initials when rounding. Also that speech they want to make nursing staff say is ridiculous. Even a few of the patients said that they were tired of hearing it. One patient told me to be myself instead of saying that speech they want you to say. Management wants to dictate how you do your job and how you talk but they can’t even work as a floor nurse. Management gives this place a bad reputation 

Do not work for this company. They will wine & dine you then once you’re working, you will see that they have pulled the wool over your eyes. Take my advice, save the heartache & find other employment where you are valued for the skills & knowledge you have, where you have autonomy, where you are told through actions, not only with words, how much you are appreciated. 

Always maxed on your patient ratios, unless it was the slow season then you get called off of work a lot because management would rather work everyone short for more profits and all they cared about was productivity. No raises, no great benefits, no support from upper management. No appreciation for all of their workers. Bad place to work as a Nurse. 

This company is flexible in allowing you to maintain a work/life balance.  They do double book their outpatient adult patients for therapy and provide additional documentation time to complete paperwork.  Some days are more challenging than others.  We do see a large variety of patient types.  Our management team is always looking to help improve processes.  Good overall work morale.

I have been with AdventHealth Ocala for a little over 2 months. Everyone has been helpful and supportive. Teamwork is excellent on my unit. Staffing is an issue at times but the hospital is working incredibly hard to recruit and retain new employees to combat that issue. I am learning so much and I am grateful for this opportunity. I love my experience so far at this hospital. 

I mostly enjoy my job, but if I were you I would ask for a tour of the unit that you're planning on working in and asking techs who work that unit how they like their job. Some units are better than others. The major downside is that the hospital is almost always overstaffed and they call you off quite often, leaving you to use PTO to make up for the hours, if you have any.
