Started with the company and was aware of the dynamics and the difficult personalities within the branch and what I was getting into. Beaufort has gone through 6 Clin Sups including me in the last year! Felt at the time my Senior Leader was supportive, and very appreciative of all the hard work and effort I did, but you had to be in her “favorites” to keep in that status. As a Clin Sup the branch was never fully staffed, which in turner caused much burnout and high turnover. I asked to be overly staffed from the start, but you have to go through multiple levels of leadership to finally get a position approved. I drove over and hour to get to work every day, was hardly sick, took a few days off here and there for 6mths, came early and stayed late. Tried everything I could with the staff, from praise, to holding them accountable, to what ended up resulting into a staff that did not want guidance, or leadership. In the end my regional director was not supportive of me and was very passive role, giving constant excuses for behavior of others that compromised patient care and quality. I was placed in the field to help with the lack of nurses to help with patients, loved it truly, but nothing got better, no sense of appreciatartion was given and you will never see the RD’s go out in the field to do visits to help when there are nurses in need and patients that need care.  Things became very shady once Agape’ came on board, it became the battle of the biggest Hospice in the state ver the best Hospice with the best quality of care given. I was running my own case load, helping other nurses while having an outside branch help me with Clin Sup duties, was never written up nor disciplined, to come back to the office to have my RD tell me on speaker that day was going to be my last day, no reason, no nothing, she couldn’t even tell me to my face like a professional, she had another Clin Sup come and sit in my office “as I saw patients” claimed she was there to help, them to come back to be told today was your last day.  I was told to call HR, I called HR 5x and they have yet to call me back. I have never felt so used and lied to by any company as such in the 12 years of my professional life.  The Sales Side truly runs the show there, and I increased the census there by literally 70% in 4 months with working with HL. Be careful and watch your back. The money is not as great as other companies for everything you are responsible for, you do have support just know who you can trust. PTO is great, but other than that that’s all I have to say

What is the best part of working at the company?
The local staff, home team and coworkers were amazing. The patients were also great. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Incomplete orientation and unreasonable time expectations. NEVER accept a salaried position because you will be putting in 75-90 hours per week for regular pay. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
At first, the company seems great and they offer all kinds if benefits. However, the work load is so intense, you will never have the time to use them. They also expect workers to complete hours and hours of computer work on their own unpaid time. On top if the normal workload, they additionally expect you to do reports that take hours to complete every other week and the weeks you don't have that, you will have a night of call which messes up your whole week. When on call, you work all day, then are on call all night and must also work the next day as well. None of the admissions of deaths done while on call count towards your weekly quota. You must also do about 8hours of computer modules for each hospital they contract with on your non existent spare time, these should be done and time allotted during orientation period but it isn't. Corporate acts like they care about their staff but they did me very wrong. Too much to include here. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You go see 5 to 6 patients. You make sure they have plenty of supplies and medication until your next visit. I would leave my home at 8am and usually got home around 6-8pm. Most nights, I had charting or medication work to do until about 11p-1am. This was just the basic work Monday -Friday. Every 2 weeks, you have IDG where you must complete time consuming notes on EVERY one of your patients. Every week, you in rotation for an admission which literally takes about 4-6 hours of solid work to complete. On weeks of no IDG, you have a night of being on call where you often have an admission to complete and more often than not , are up most of the night. Sure, you can not leave your house next morning at 8am, but you must complete that admission before starting your day AND must still see 5-6 patients some how that day. It's much harder than it sounds due to patient locations and individual patient needs and time preferences of when you see them.

A typical day starts with the standup call then you start seeing your patients. I have learned to give the best care despite the toxic environment. My experience is overwhelmingly negative, that is the hardest part of the job. While the company promotes a mission to serve with love, providing comfort and support through compassionate care and meaningful experiences and with you every step of the way they are anything but. The company is growing too quickly while consistently demonstrating that employees are not valued and neither are patients. The company mission is not reflected in the daily culture or leadership behavior. Management consistently fosters a toxic environment where bullying, retaliation and gaslighting are commonplace. Management often resorts to bullying tactics and retaliation against those who raise concerns. Gaslighting happens on a daily basis. Feedback is not welcome unless it is what management wants to hear. When factual negative feedback is given, it leads to either retaliation or nothing at all. Many employees are afraid to speak up for fear of retaliation. Employees who voice concern or try to advocate for patients or coworkers are often punished, retaliated against. There is no true support for employee well-being. These issues are not isolated; they reflect a culture of silence and fear not accountability and growth. The gap between the company's public mission and internal behavior is stark and alarming. Massively high turnover, low morale and fear of retaliation are the norm. If you're considering working for this company, I recommend researching thoroughly and being cautious. The most enjoyable part of the job is the patients, their families and supportive coworkers. 

They have a saying of a "Culture of Uniquely Better" more like a culture of distrust. Corporate and senior leadership have a complete disconnect from the local offices and do not place value on the hardworking nurses, hospice aides, social workers and chaplains that actually care for the patients and their families. They work their 8-4 and leave without offering support or caring about staffing for patient care. Regional Directors are even worse, they are usually at home or out running personal errands instead of actually assisting their staff, they have zero accountability from corporate. The disconnect is so rampant that Regional Directors terrorize the direct reports and when employees try to follow the chain of command and "Open Door" policy to address the issue they are blown off with no support. Frequently Regional Directors pass off their assigned work to lower management. If you are out on call, forget them helping you. If you don't support their agenda or call them out for the lack of support, you will be targeted and lose your job. If you don't do their assigned work, you will be targeted and lose your job. 

If you are in a lower management position such as the Patient Care Coordinator, you will be burnt out from the lack of support from senior management and extensive workload. The company is very understaffed because of high turnover and you may be expected to see a large caseload, do aide visits, nursing visits and complete your lower management duties. Everything is a number, patients are admitted that are not appropriate and kept on service too long. If you don't have staffing, too bad, it will be you doing the work.  End of the month is an all out assault on lower management to complete billing, often encompassing 16 hour days with no support and all the responsibility.

The patients and other nurses are wonderful. When I first started I really enjoyed the work I did and felt supported by management. Following a change in leadership the entire culture of the Columbia branch changed. Current management is inexperienced, lack accountability and actively foster a toxic workplace. There is no support for the case managers forcing them to rely solely on each other for help and support. Office staff is useless when questions are asked or concerns shared. If you share concerns you are then the problem and a target and retaliation is commonplace. There is clear favoritism among nurses and if you try to speak up you are "punished" in one way or another. There is clear worst part is the patients are directly effected. Patient and family complaints fall on deaf ears and "difficult" patients or families placed with the more experienced nurses leading them to be severely overwhelmed having to perform constant service recovery, which should be management's responsibility. Case Managers are actively encouraged to cut corners so that office management never has to come out from behind their desks. Current leadership refuses to help in the field no matter how busy staff is. If the case managers can't get to a visit due to staffing issues they just assign it to on call staff. Overall, it is chaotic and there is absolutely no work/life balance and branch management needs a complete overhaul. 

This was the most rewarding position I have every worked in my career personally.  I loved the work culture that provided patients with  holisitic patient care.  The management was somewhat inexperienced, yet tried to work with everyone fairly.  The compencation for this job was not that great, but the personal satisfaction you recieve from the patients and their families more than  made up for the lack of pay.  The hardest part of this job was the loss of some beautiful people, although this is the expectation of the positon.  The reward is knowing you have done everything possible to allow this person to have a dignified and peaceful death.  Also getting to know some of the most wonderful families, who are the hero's for providing the care to their loved ones everyday, during their last days.  I recommend Hospice Care of South Carolina to all who have a passion to care for patients..

Terrible agency to work for. Cliques, mean people, no support...its just toxic and backstabby. if your not part of the "inner circle" you should just leave on Day 1.  You won't feel supported, or respected. They will let you flounder until you just sink. Caseloads are to high. The communication is so so bad - there isn't really any training to speak of. You are supposed to know what your doing.  When you don't know how to do something people are like shocked. But how are you supposed to know certain things if no one tells you, right? On top of that, this place puts the "cult" in culture. It is honestly like a cult. If you aren't running around talking about great it is to work for Agape and kissing up to people, you won't succeed. It is that simple. The social workers who think this place is great have no real work experience- the only jobs they had before this were at like Panera Bread or Starbucks. I could not wait to get out of here and would never suggest that anyone with a heart work here. I work with a different hospice now where I feel appreciated. They are also kinda mean and rude to older staff.

As a Chaplain, I interact and provide Spiritual support to Families and their loved ones challenged with a life - terminating illness. Also, provide education to the Community at large of the embraceable resources that is available through Hospice Care services. 

I serve as one of the Interdisciplinary Team Representatives giving support as needed by my PCC and immediate Supervisor'. The hardest part of the job ... finding enough hours to fulfill the care that becomes a part of you and giving oneself the balance needed to continue to serve forward after the transition of those lives well - lived.

This is why De-briefing the Staff and continuing to provide those additional benefits to the family through the Bereavement Support after the loved one transitions to their place of eternal peace, so that their families will move through these experiences in a wholesome and celebratory legacy.

Which is the most enjoyable part of my discipline as a Hospice Chaplain or as a Community Relations Liaison. 

In, conclusion. There is no hard part to these Disciplines of Care.

ACG Hospice has been a Godsend job for me. This is my first Director role, and I feel like I have had the leadership and support to be successful. I work 8-5pm, I do take Admin call daily because we are still growing as a new company in Tuscaloosa. The onboarding and training courses for nurses are excellent. You have resources at your fingertips. The company really focuses on employees and appreciating your hard work and rewarding it. The hardest part of the job for me is having to be available 24/7, but I have an excellent staff who are independent and seasoned. I love serving our community and helping patients at end of life. This is my 22nd year in Hospice and it has been the most rewarding career of my life. I am thankful and hope to end with retirement at ACG Hospice.

I work directly with employees, rather than with patients and families, but I know that what I do also contributes to our mission to serve with love, compassion and providing meaningful experiences. As long as we take care of our staff first, they will in turn take care of the patients. Our tag line "With You" is more than just words, we mean it! Our leadership team is phenomenal and are available to assist whomever needs it. They are fair and considerate of all situations, and always give valiant efforts to help work it out. Nothing seems to fit a standard mold or check a typical box-- we live in a grey area and have to react accordingly. The executive team has shown that they listen to the feedback from the employees and encourage and welcome it; good or bad. I am blessed to be a part of this team that provides exceptional care and carry out God's work. He will always underwrite any project that He has ordained, and hospice and palliative care, to both the old and young, is absolutely God at work!
