The pay is great for the kind of job that I do, but the management sucks. Was reprimanded and put on administrative leave when I had only been on my own for 3 days. I didn't know what I had done wrong and was not told to about it as well. Mind you, I was still learning as I went, and a talk would have been nice so I could see my mistakes and improve on them. Now, I am awaiting to talk to HR and see what happens. I don't have very high hopes. Also, when I got hired, I specifically asked for night shift as it would work better with my personal life. They agreed and when I was hired, I had morning shift and was told that "its not always guaranteed that you will get the shifts and hours you want." Also was told at the interview that it was self scheduling. I was lied to again. It was not. My schedule was made by the manager 2 months in advanced. When I told them, they said that the "self-scheduling" referred to picking up extra days/shifts and not actually picking the days you wanted to work regularly for the week. All and all, my experience at this place in the short amount of time that I have been here has been a disaster. I have barely learned anything new except for seeing my preceptors/coworkers boss me around to do things while they sit back and talk with other coworkers. They are not nice to new employees and when you ask for help, they will belittle you and ask you why you cant do it yourself. The nurses there are fairly nice. A few of them are very rude and like to complain about their job and sit around and slack off a lot. The hours are okay, for a nurse or a cna, it is 12hrs per day. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone as the management is quite cruel and too faced. You're better off working elsewhere so you don't have to deal with fake people and their fake intentions.

Everything was great in the beginning as in everything. However it took months before I was even told what my real schedule would be. My schedule was all over the place one week it was nights the next days. It was good for me I don't have a family otherwise it would have been more of nightmare. 

Coworkers were rude , quick to blame you for every little thing when your still new and in a training mode. Passive aggressive should be the name of the laboratory because one lady literally standing next to me and talking to herself talking to her self and saying absolutely clueless as if I did not know she was referring to me. 

In the position I was in as a phlebotomist, it was the upper managements view that being physically assaulted and verbally abused was part of the job description and to either live with those type of work conditions or put in your notice. As I am sure you savvy readers have already deduced that I terminated my employment with this organization. 

Please consider other options for employment if your in a clinical setting career. There are neumerous and hopefully more ethical and responsible organizations to be employed by than ANMC!

I have worked there for sixteen great years, I started out as kitchen helper way before the food handlers card were even a thing. I delivered proper diets to patients rooms, made a sandwich platter for the grieving families for two years. 
Then one of the security officers was telling me to apply in security way before I started there prior, while I was there the same security person told me how much I made in the kitchen I said not much but enough. 
He said if you apply your pay will go up and he said to me if you apply let me know personally, so I did. 
Fourteen years later the hospital security staff were amazing to work with, the security staff trained on how to basic life saving skills, first to respond to anything including a fire small enough for a bag of popcorn to burn or curling iron gets too hot on patient housing hair. They the hospital security paid me to go on training in lower 48 
I quit and came back and the staff welcomed me with open arms then I year n half later I quit again this time for good to work in the medical field 

Honestly this is the best job I've had in a hospital. Co-workers are awesome and I feel plenty of support from supervisors. I've had severe health issues that made it so I missed a lot of work but my supervisor and the director worked with me through it. The higher ups and management can be awful sometimes though. All phlebotomists are also lab assistants/specimen processors. In fact, despite the job description, 80% of the job is processing rather than phlebotomy unless you are on the 3am shift. There's only one phlebotomist on 3am's right now and it can be very rough for them. We are horribly understaffed leading to quick burnout and employee turn around, and for whatever reason they won't hire part time or separate phlebotomy from lab assistants. It's a mixed bag but overall I feel that my supervisors care and value my work despite the challenges. If you are new or studying MLS I don't think you'll find a better opportunity to learn about lab operations though

Over all as a CNA I feel like this company encourages you to advacne your education and your mangers are very supportive, however I feel like there is a negative culture sometimes with staff nurses who either lack time management or just blatently do not help with basic care, but of course it not all of the nurses. The CNAs now are on a I,II and III scale for pay which is based on experience and how long you have had your nurse aide license and is better than nothing but there is a lot that needs to be fixed with that. The best part is the patients we get to work with, most of the ptient population is amazing and sweet to work with and most of them have their families who are supportive. Also as someone who is Alaskan Native it is nice to work in a place where your culture and all others like it are celebrated and they do their best to incorporate traditional indigenous foods. 

No advancement for skilled workers. Not supportive of family emergencies, and upper management is a joke. Encouraged to report compliance issues without retaliation, not my personal experience. If you are a hard worker be prepared for a high turn over rate and picking up the slack for unqualified or lazy staff members. I know that all the work I did ultimately belonged to the company.  However my leaders continued to steal my ideas and contributions and take the credit. I would not recommend this place to work at or receive services because there is a real disconnect with reality. I guess if you get funds from the Federal Government for Support Services you can continue to hire leaders who are incompetent.

There may be departments that are well managed where a person will thrive, learn, and grow in their career. Or, depending on the supervisor you might very well be belittled, condescended, and criticisized. Management will cover for management.  Those not in supervisory positions will be told, in a very professional manner of course, their feelings don't matter. Management will ask for ideas and suggestions then use them as their own. PTO will be denied. If it's not denied, you will be made to feel that it is a HUGE inconvenience to even request a day off.  You will accrue "points" for calling in sick or being late.  If you go to HR with an issue about management, HR will go directly back to your supervisor with your complaint. There is no such thing as anonymous reporting. No such thing as no retaliation.  Working under certain managerial departments will cause extreme stress.

ANTHC is one of the best hospitals to work for in the United States, period.   It has approximately 3500 employees (combined with SCF, more or less).    Their benefit package is unmatched, only to Southcentral Foundation, because they co-manage the hospital.  

ANTHC has an amazing benefits package with Federal Health Employee Benefits (FEHB) health insurance.   PTO is amazing at 6, 8, 10 hours earned per pay period and paid holidays - all very generous benefits package to name a few.    Paid holidays - all of them except 1 or 2.  I believe there's 12 paid holidays.  

 I've worked all over ANTHC campus and this is a company you can grow in as well.  If you're offered a job, take it, and don't quit.   You can always transfer within.  Grow with it.   

I used to work in the Flex Unit and there are often ICU nurses there that supplement the staff. The workplace culture is that of charge nurses micromanaging everything that you're doing and the dayshift nurses writing you up for every minor infraction. It was a challenging workplace with very unstable patients that weren't appropriate for PCU level and adding to that the ICU nurses that tried to micromanage your patients and tell you to monitor them every 15 minutes b/c of their instability when that's not possible with a 3:1 ratio. I got burnt out after 6 months but lasted only 8 months and left. I did learn a lot in this role and that was only because a travel ICU nurse would sit us down and give us education on different medical conditions. 

The Job at ANMC is not hard, co workers work together for a common goal, the patient care and patient safety. What makes the job harder as it is, is some members of the management team favoring other co workers that are in their clique. If you are not member of that circle, you end up getting higher acuity patients, your pto is not approved, and you are scheduled on least desirable schedule. Management is good in projecting being friendly and nice at first, but is not a good leader as they tend to play favoritism, they pay favorites with some co workers leaving you to do the job, and when you can't handles 15 patients, they write you up. They write you up for not doing other people's job.
