The actual job was fun and the customers were mostly nice, but the management expectations and the somewhat micro-managing style of the President made it no fun. Each day you were on the road doing visits (either cold calls or appointments) and I was told by an Operations Manager that the expectation was 40+ sales calls each week. I'm a relationship building type of sales person so for me it's difficult to get in that many calls and make sure they are viable, well thought out visits. Friday morning I was expected to be on a sales call meeting at 7am for a half hour and give a day-by-day run down of every customer I saw each day, what I talked about with those customers, and my plans for next week. Then I had to listen to the other sales people do the same thing. This meeting was on top of the detailed report I was expected to email each week, which seemed a bit redundant. The co-workers were nice, but there were a few times when I would send them leads for customers in their area and then they would claim they found them by doing cold calls. 

On my first territory meeting at 4 months on the job, I was told by the President that he wasn't sure if I was a good fit for the company, even thought I had already closed business, had 1.6 million in quotes and brought in new customers. I believe it was his management style and way to motivate me to work harder. My manager sat there and didn't say anything to back me up, so unfortunately, all this did was make me feel unappreciated and want to start looking for a new job.

The wages here are insanely low. I took a large pay cut and saw it would take two years just to get back to what I was previously making. My first experience in the field with a lead co worker he informed me the company doesn’t pay well at all. The job it self is very easy so it’s not a huge surprise but for the amount of time you spend out of town and on the road in a new location everyday the compensation should make up for it. They pay for your hotel but the money you get for food is also very low which there little to no take home for trying to save the PD. They have nice vehicles provided. The training is ridiculously long. Over 40 videos that span between 20-50 mins and then NFP training which is also lengthy. The people there are friendly but being told my first day that the pay isn’t worth it to work there and that they were leaving soon for better opportunities told me all I needed to know. I had a vast amount of  knowledge from years of being an electrician that did not factor in to what they decided to pay me.

They have many national office/warehouses across the country supporting many regular and new customers. Typically there is short regional travel to projects versus clocking in to the same site every day. Alpine Power Systems  is a company willing to train and invest in their employees.  They understand the changing market and willing to invest in growth when needed.  Alpine Power Systems is extremely safety focused.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Teammates was the only thing i would remember was great. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is bad. No good communication on tasks and personal demands. Its like you are another piece of equipment on the jobs the can discard anytime. Feel disrespected at time by management. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Regional Manager will not address employees and curve when communication involves. There will be no accommodation no negotiation for employees. You can quit and they will not ask you why because they are the ones pushing u out the door.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long hours and the expectation to complete all tasks in 4 days a week for management to cut overtimes short. Expect to be exhausted on a weekly basis.

The best way to describe this organization is a brain not connected to the body.  While the front office functioned adequately, there was a total disconnect to the field.  Management at all levels of the field were poor at best.  Unqualified and untrained management using antiquated fear tactics, etc. led to a culture of mistrust and confusion.  As a successful project manager running a subsidiary of the general operation was the only way to function for a long period of time in such a chaotic environment.  High turnover in the workforce eventually led to using more sub-contractors which probably helped and kept the operation functioning.  Good intentions but extremely poor output.

Working at Alpine Power Systems is a great opportunity to make an impact on a growing business. Alpine has a great team of ambitious individuals who are always willing to go out of there way to help you. Alpine has a dynamic culture with a mix of people of different ages and from all walks of life. The most enjoyable part of working at Alpine is being able to see a positive impact on what you're doing for the company, anyone can make a difference. The hardest part of the job about working at Alpine would be that since the company is mid-size, sometime you will have to wear a couple different hats - but on the bright side, this gives you valuable experience in a mix of different areas.

Most difficult part of the Job was competing on a equal basis for large opportunities...Price/Support shortcomings compared to the Direct Manufacturers that sometimes bid or sponsored another VAR to go after the opportunity.
Most enjoyable was getting the help and support to land a good (large) Customer!

A typical day at work consisted of being at the warehouse 7 am sharp and start working on loading and unloading the trucks and preparing them for the job site. After that was finished we would then be assigned our crew and job site location. I learned pretty decent amount of stuff from electrical work to very little management skills. The hardest part of this job was the whole job honestly, we had to make sure nothing went wrong seeing how we were working with live power and wires the whole time. The most enjoyable part of the job was when we finished and the site looked better than what it did whenwe started and knowing that everything was in working order.

From day one I felt as though I was truly a part of the family. They take care of their employees in ways you'd only expect to find at a company like Google.  Food and drinks at no cost, benefits and profit sharing from the first day of employment & the pay was above average for the industry.

They take safety very seriously.  OSHA training and certification, CPR and First Aide are required before you go out to the field.

The work atmosphere is primed for growth opportunities and they truly value the input of their employees.

Truly happy I made the decision to join the company over others that were making offers.

Alpine has one of the best company cultures you can ask for. Everyone is very nice and willing to help when needed. The office feels like you're a part of a family and everyone is very kind. The CEO will ask you about your weekend and will build a relationship with his employees. They do many company outings to show staff appreciation and will from time to time order food for the whole office. The accounting team was great to work with and everyone collaborated to complete tasks or resolve issues. Overall experience here was fantastic and would recommend it to anyone.
