I worked as a peer counselor for about a year at this company before leaving voluntarily and definitely grew a lot in that time. The best part about it was talking with the folks that called the warmline, I felt like I was making a real difference, especially for those who I talked to a number of times. It was for sure challenging sometimes but my supervisor was always there to support and gave me a lot of good advice for working with different populations and the needs of various callers. I was able to get a good feeling for working in a mental health space as a peer and, now that I'm moving on to other more in person focused work, I find myself reflecting positively on the confidence and people skills I've gained. 

Also a quick shout out to the technical and admin staff for patiently walking me through all the ins and outs of various software, working remote really required a lot of computer know how. 

Your coworkers are the most helpful people around you, which is amazing, but the problem lies at its core. One day you will feel like you’re doing well, and the next you get hit with a 180° of being told you aren’t supporting as much as you need to.
 If you go to your supervisors with a problem, you will be told thats just the way it is or that’s life, it’s like this everywhere. If you like having no personal space, you will LOVE the CEO. Why he feels the need to speak on everyone’s appearance is beyond me. 
People are afraid to take their PTO because you’ll either get called for help on your days off, or the workload becomes unbearable to catch up with. Grateful for the the people I met, not entirely grateful for the amount of stress, embarrassment, and tears this job brought upon me. 

I really appreciate being able to work remote, I live in a pretty out of the way area due to my spouses job that doesn't have many jobs opportunities for folks interested in working in the mental health field. I was thus really excited for this work from home job that would also allow me to get my foot in the door. Since starting as a crisis counselor in 2021 I've been able to get a lot of good experience and even my peer counseling certification through this job. Despite the changes of grants, software and administration the core of the job, peer support, has remained as fulfilling as its always been.

I've experienced serious challenges and traumas before in my life, and I only overcame those experiences with the support of a lot of people. I took this peer counselor position to pay it forward. Beyond my personal struggles I had no prior experience doing this kind of work but with the training and feedback from my team and other supervisors I was able to develop a counseling style that takes advantage of my strengths and is broadly applicable to most of our clients. This job has added a lot of meaning to my life and I am incredibly lucky to be able to work with everyone counselor and caller alike.

There isn’t anything good about working for alter management. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You are expected to do things you did not apply for. Your time and hard work is not valued at this company. Corporate management is completely of touch with reality and realistic expectations. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful. The company cuts corners wherever they can and lack integrity most of the time. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Having unqualified supervisors blame you for things that are actually their responsibility.

I felt supported while there. I experienced great communication from both HR and management. The heaviness of the calls was balanced by the great company culture which provides a lot of support throughout the day. I truly enjoyed my time with my team. The ability to support care seekers on an ongoing basis helped me feel the full extent of the impact our services make and I felt really fulfilled while I was employed there. If you have good communication skills, enjoy providing support to others and never having a dull day, this job is for you!

I ended up leaving because I was tired of working weekends, admin was a bit flexible but at the end of the day its 24/7 coverage and the shifts were not really convenient for me anymore.

I really loved my team and felt really close to the peer support staff on my shift despite us all working remotely and being in different parts of the state. The company itself was really dedicated to its staff and our care-seekers. I really appreciated that when I would have hard or stressful calls with folks in crisis and my lead would step in and help. 

I started off as a counselor and then got promoted into a lead position. The company tries to promote from within when possible and after a thorough interview process I was selected. Its been a learning experience for me as its my first time managing a team but my lead when I was a counselor has been coaching me when I ask for her advice. I really appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow. It's been a little stressful managing all the software, platform, and policy changes but its also given me a lot more resilience and adaptability.

Worked remotely for the company for about a year before I left due to personal reasons. My supervisors as well as my coworkers were very supportive and kind. I could always count on them for encouragement or constructive criticism when needed. Management also made sure the workload was spread evenly which I appreciated. The pay was good and there were many opportunities for advancement. It was also easy to switch your schedule if you needed to. Overall I really enjoyed working for the company. 

I thought this job would be a pretty easy remote job when I started, and it turned out to be very challenging sometimes as people in crisis are often not their best selves. That being said the team that I have and my lead in particular have been incredible in their support. I've never felt alone even though it is a remote job and when you are in a call or chat it is just you and the caller. We also have very good training and, while there isn't a script for encounters, there is a robust structure with phrases that you can use if you ever find yourself stuck.
