Where to start? Job culture would get a zero here if it was possible.They will post an ad about the position being evening shift, then bait and switch by saying it includes overnight shift as well.The work environment is highly stressful and toxic. Some of the people are friendly enough, others are rude or just plain fake. However, if you're new, especially to the area, expect to get verbally abused and bullied by trainers who've been there for years. Apparently, the longer one has worked in an environment the more they're allowed to get away with, especially if they're local.  Expect the trainers to lie about what you did vs what they told you to do. Never in my life have I been treated with such blatant disrespect and hostility. It's as if some individuals go out of their way to try and make your day at work as stressful as possible. If you attempt to defend yourself, expect to be reported for daring to stick up for yourself. Don't expect anyone to have your back, not even human resources when you complain. HR will gang up on you along with the management to make you feel like you're in the wrong for filing a complaint. They will disregard your grievances, and tell you how "you are the problem" as reported to them by said trainers. Management themselves will never work directly in the lab with you and rely solely on reports from the trainers. Apparently, treating people poorly, trying to intimidate them, and breaking their confidence are effective training methods at Altru.

It's a surreal experience, as if bullying and unprofessional behavior is not the more important issue in this instance. Despite their own company policy of supposedly not tolerating this, the people involved in this situation will probably not be reprimanded, as it is obvious they have been allowed to get away with this type of behavior for awhile. The management are basically Facebook friends with said people so they will protect one another. If you can choose another place to work do it. Unfortunately, this hospital is the only place in the area offering employment in this career.

Assisted in maintaining a neat, clean and orderly appearance in the lobby and overall center throughout the day, ensures preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory, Performs front office clerical duties such as answering telephones, check-in, check-out and record processing, May assist with clerical activities related to appointment scheduling and patient intake, data verification, office communications, and filing of patient records, Performed other duties as assigned, Customer Service skills, Basic knowledge of clinical procedures, medical anatomy and physiology, worked in Fast paced, deadline-oriented clinical office environment.

My experience at Altru was not horrible but it wasn't all that pleasant either. I worked there for 2.5 years. In the final year that I was there we had 3 different managers and not a single one ever met with me. I never knew who was in charge of scheduling or who to talk to when I had issues come up. Some of my coworkers were pleasant to work, but some were bullies. They would berate you for not getting a task done or not doing things their way, yet they repeatedly made the same mistakes. Most employees in the position that I held would just gossip about others and talk behind their backs. It made it really hard to trust anyone I worked with and I came to dread going there every day. They were extremely short staffed and I regularly worked 12 hour shifts without getting to take a lunch break. The calls from staffing were constant looking for people to pick up hours, especially on the weekends. Tasks also would get added on that were not in my job description and training was never provided these tasks. It was horrible to watch the staffing situations in the hospital on a daily basis. I would regularly see the charge nurse of a floor also be assigned to 4 patients because everyone else had 7 already and there were never aids to help. There were more traveling nurses then regular staff. The travel nurses only receive one day of training before they are just thrown in. The parking was such a joke. There is not enough parking available and they do not maintain the employee lots in the winter. I fell twice. I did meet some very nice people and it was good experience for the job I am currently in but I don't miss one thing about that place.

My experience working with the ladies at altru, was okay. 
I could tell I really didn't  grow on too many. 
I myself personally enjoyed the experience. 
But while I was working I have came to know that I was with child. And receiving care from altru , was the best thing I thought because I worked there. Well...  
I was told when i was around 7 weeks pregnant that i had miscarried because I came in with a condition.
There was a procedure that was done.
Which I came to find out that, that I was misinformed. 
All while going through this, i was starting to sign up for my FMLA as i was directed by my DEPT manager.  Only for the same dr that did the procedure to tell me that i could of went back to work the next day. And she refused to fill out my paperwork until the last minute, and I dont even think she did it. They started doing all types of blood withdraws for 3 days straight because they continued to check my hormone level because it continued to increase. They not once said let's have you take a pregnancy test. But I was due for an ultrasound that last blooddraw day, only to find out that I was still pregnant with my now 7 month old daughter. I mean I was still blessed with my baby but still. I love altru as a work place, but the assisting with clients, needs a little more knowledge. I did not want to return to work because of the stress that was put on me and for my daughters sake and safety I just left.

A typical work day the department(s) would see roughly 90+ patients on the clinic side and additional patients on the retail side. I learned that being the first person a patient sees when they walk in, will make a lasting impression. You never know just how their visit is going to end up, or why they are at your department. 
We were going through a transition time, from one type of managing to another. While change is difficult, and some do not adjust well to change, it was great and our building manager and supervisor were very understanding with the workflow and processes we had in place.  The hardest part of the job is that it is a very demanding job. Patients will come in even if there is a blizzard and the office is open. If providers are out, you have patients to reschedule (it may be last minute and these patients may be traveling from hours away), at times, there was no coverage for co-worker's appointments and it was difficult for many to get time off when they requested it. 
The most enjoyable part about the job is the interaction with regular patients that knew you by name and would always smile when they saw you, working with the same people daily and having a fun work atmosphere. Definitely miss it!

If you enjoy high stress, unfair wages, unreasonable responsibilities, lack of flexibility, lack of communication, lack of work-life balance, being expected to be to work on time even when roads are closed from snow, dealing with patients who are ALWAYS ANGRY, redoing work and then redoing it again because people don't follow policy or cancel appointments short notice, and having to cut conversations with chatty patients short because you are constantly fighting a call timer, with calls never ending, and work piling up because they refuse to higher additional employees, being expected to work overtime, being told by upper management what to do when even they have no idea what your job entails, and wearing a mask constantly all day while talking on phones even know the doctors only wear masks when patient facing, and take them off as soon as the patient leaves. This is the place for you. Everyone passes the buck, and nobody takes responsibility for their mistakes.

Altru is going in the wrong direction. Administration doesn’t care about employees or their voices being heard, only the money. Nothings about the patient anymore. Nurse to patient ratios are dangerous! Doctors don’t prioritize their patients. Won’t respond to pages or come back to communicate with their patients. Communication in general within the organization is awful. Staffing texts/calls daily for staff to come in and help. If you bring a concern to management, nothing is changed. Travelers are treated better than normal staff. Management have their favorite staff and favor them over others. Administration is merging floors that should not be merged as they’re opposite specialities. For example, ortho & pediatrics.  Oncology with cardiac. Since when are these similar specialities. The chief of nursing is a very unhealthy lady to work under. She comes out of her office only when mad. Staff feel unsafe to bring concerns to her and are afraid they will be let go on a daily basis due to her choices to try to save money and budget for the new hospital. To her, you’re not a valuable employee , you’re anumbrr. High turnover within the organization. New grads orientation is being cut short due to not having enough staff.

I was actually confronted by the previous reviewer of the CP tech position at my previous job and (we worked together) when I mentioned I was accepting this position this person said "well I hope they treat you better than they treated me." I got a bit nervous but as soon as I came into the department, everyone was so welcoming and helpful. I know this department recently aquired an actual manager dedicated to the department (and she is fantastic!) and maybe that helped to boost morale but the people I read about in that previous review have either changed dramatically or have moved on. I've seen nothing but constant energy and team work from the department so far. I'm very new to this (no previous experience) and I've gotten so much help and very patient trainers who have explained things clearly and are very willing to answer all questions...no matter how many times I ask. Haha. Everyone seems happy and willing to work in the department so far that I have seen, and I can't wait to work here for many years to come!

If you are interested in administration exalting mid-levels and bring down physicians, this is the place for you. Management will side with the mid-levels if there are problems. You’ll be expected to lead a departments but only in the ways administration tells you too. If you do any of your own thinking, you’ll be considered a bad physician. Get ready for tons of emphasis placed on patient ratings as that is your core value to Altru as a physician. Poor ratings again mean you are a poor physician in their eyes. I have never seen the level of unprofessionalism  exhibited by office and support staff until working for Altru. Don’t worry though, your concerns will definitely be ignored until a fireable offense occurs and then the employee will just get a slap on the wrist. Also, be prepared to be understaffed and be told this is the new norm so deal with it.  Let admin build their mid-level empire, as long term physician contracts are not advised. Always have an exit strategy.

I worked as a physician at Altru Health System for many years. Based on my experience, I would not recommend it to physicians seeking a stable, physician-led practice environment.

During my tenure, there was frequent turnover in administrative and physician leadership. Multiple physician leaders, including two former presidents and a chief medical executive, were removed from leadership roles over time. These widely reported events contributed to an atmosphere of instability and uncertainty.

As experienced staff departed, institutional knowledge declined and remaining employees had less mentorship and support. Attempts to advocate for stability and retention were not well-received.

Although the organization presents itself as physician-led, I observed limited physician input into major operational decisions. The opening of a new facility did not appear to change this dynamic.

There are many dedicated people working here, but physicians considering employment should carefully evaluate whether the leadership culture aligns with their professional values and expectations.
