Prewarning this is going to be a long.

I was initally hired on as a mortgage specialist and here is a reference point I atarted in August if 2020 and back then the rating for this company was a 3.8; 6 months later it dropped to a 2.2; and about 6 months later (July 2021) it is now a 2.8. 

Where i would be learning the operations side and potentially move up to a processing or underwriting role. I was told that there was job security and that although not guaranteed would be working towarda one of those 2 positions when first hired. But as most companies did during the pandemic they overhired employees and instead of maybe waiting until the new year to start gave an ultimatum a good 25-30% of employees to apply, interview, and test for the licensed mortgage specialist position which is basically a mortgage loan originator position on a different pay scale. Mind you, that instead of relaxing and enjoying both the November and December holidays which each of us had already scheduled our time off for - we were told you can't take that time off because you must got mandatory training - only if you first passed the interview (basically yes i want to be in salea or no I don't think it's a good fit), take the NMLS and pass it, then do mandatory training where if you missed a day you were immediately let go. 

Training was decent but only gave the fluff of how to sell but didn't fully provide what to do on the environment. Lots of long videos but no hand on practice or call listening to hear how others have done the job previously. The funny thing is that a majority of our trainers (who were prior MLOs) said they were glad to be doing that job because they found it less stressful and more fulfilling then the job they were training is too do. If we are going in order first came training for the NMLS test hours of powerpoints, short quizzes, a booklet, note cards, etc. Then was systems training, then finally sales training. 

Finally we are split into teams originally starting with the VP of sales until he built his own team of managers that met the conditions he saw his employees needed. Management just because an individual excelled in sales does not mean they make good managers. Those who have held no leadership or management positons do not usually make the greatest of managers. Seeing that a couple of my colleagues literally went through 3-4 managers before they were dispersed to other teams. Or our current manager who is all about the sale and to look every loan possible where in some cases although the loan passes the CERT, it's only a small push from being a non-viable loan. 

AmeriSave says they take care of thwir employees, but that was a lie. Back in March of 2021 there was a mass exodus of employees on both the sales and operations side. And where operations is on a hiring freeze, sales continues to hire more and more people because the work culture is toxic. Obnoxious amounts of micromanagement to the point of where we were initially told M-F with occasional saturdays from 8-6 where you may get 55-60 hour weeks occassipnally turns into 24/7 workdays. Like i mean in our team, we worked from 8a-9/10p, sometimes working even until midnight in some cases. Then you need to work over the weekend because you were unable to get a set minimum during the week but then constantly having to be in contact with your borrowers when your sick or on vacation, etc. And where your managers say they got your back or your pipelines while your gone (and letting your clients know who to contact as well as letting your team know who to contact if your arw unavailable) you come back 3-4 days later to code reds, paused, and suspended loans and entire email and multiple voicemails for work on this loan. Even on days i took a half day i came back to more fires that i could hardly contain. Oh and if your haven't gotten a sale in a few days to a week good luck trying to get your vacation approved without receiving a call asking why you need to take that time off. 

And when telling your manager that you need help they only opt in to say your need to be working front end, no back end work until this afternoon - but then you get emails from processors stating why arent you working on this loan and then your manager calls you in your sell asking why you aren't doing the loan work. Also don't think about not working those later hours because your manager will call/text you and ask you why your clocking out so early, or say something like lunch is for the week you need go find those sales. Or if your happen to forget to work a weekend or have proof of technical difficulties and you are unable to login expect a final write-up where your next offense will get you fired. 

Benefits are decent and getting to work remotely is great when the systems is actually working. Systems in general are abysmal they've been improved since we first started (back then they went down every 30-45m for hours in end), day after day after day. The remote server is a bit more stable now (july 2021) but the phone systems is still not the greatest - borrowers cant hear you, you can hear then, bad echoes, dropped calls, functions that dont work, etc. What happened to that state of the art technology as promised in each and every job summary that they provide. 

Growth - on operations there were plenty of positions to grow into. On sales there's nothing - no TLs only management roles but you have to work in the industry for 5+ years. 

In my current team there is 1 individual who should get some type of recognition he helps everyone with answering questions about compliance, regulations, how to work a loan, screenshare to help with our loans, provides notes that they create about topics and how to do our jobs much easier - even to new people (as soon as i was introduced to the team they provided me documents, spreadsheets, and anything i could think of that really helped me when I initially started). Even after they were told not to help their team anymore because they did it so well before an actual person in charge could help they still helps. You may ask why dont I just ask my manager - depends on the day if I havent gotten a sale for that day or in the last week i can expect my question to be received on dead ears upwards to 2 weeks even if I email them and call them every couple of days. Or simply get a reply such as "you can do it, i believe in you." Like if I could do it I would have and not be asking you. This person - one of my teammates calls them the professor because they literally know everything and is always willing to lend a helping hand even if they get reprimanded for it. That type of person should be the manager - they act more of a leader then our actual manager does. 

AmeriSave take care of your employees, provide them a work life balance where they aren't working their lives away, being demeaned for what theyre good at, ridiculed by management once they leave the company to the team, etc. Your employees are the bread and butter they are what makes the company run like it does your may think were and replaceable which we are but eventually it catches up with you. Provide growth opportunities. Your employees are not just numbers. 

HR you may request to have us email you - but honestly none of us feel safe. We've gone to HR before and it always gets back to our manager and one way or another there is ALWAYS backlash for what speaking the truth. And in doing so where your trying to help just makes everything more and more toxic. 

You may ask why do you stay - I stay because I need a job a job right now to afford rent and life necessities. Although I am looking for other work, it's a bit more difficult with company's being more selective. 

PS if your get hired as an LMS - On sales most likely they will be removing the LMS role all together soon which will remove the hourly and put everyone on the LO commission pay. 

I usually started my day between 5am-6am, since I was working remotely.  This also allowed me to get a lot of work done before being flooded with emails and phone calls.  I would start my day by reviewing all emails and voice-mails that might have come in after hours, the day before.  

I would then make list of my loans that needed to be worked on for the day, by prioritizing them in order of closing date and/or items that were needing to be rushed.

It was imperative to me that I also sent a status update email or call, if needed, to my borrower to let them know once I had reviewed any docs they had forwarded and to inform them that I had had sent their loan back to underwriting for an updated approval.

Since I worked remotely, I did not have too much interaction with my co-workers, unless it was through instant messenger, phone or email.  I was always important to me to treat each one with respect and to approach each loan as a team effort.  There were several instances where I had to cover a team members file, while they were out, and always made it a point to treat their file as if it were my own.  (did not receive any compensation for covering these files, since our compensation was only received on loans that we closed and funded ourselves)

In my experience, the hardest part of the my job was closing loans with very little notice.  Because I had the ability to get loans approved quickly, I would often be assigned loans that needed to close in two weeks or less.  In some instances, I had approximately one week to close a loan, which was challenging when my pipeline consisted of approximately 15 other purchase file.  I am proud to say, that I was always able deliver and get the loan approved and closed by the contract date.  

With that being said, I would have to say that what I have taken from this job experience is how to prioritize and how to better manage stress from a job.  Prioritizing has always been one of my better strengths, but my job at Amerisave was without a doubt the most stressful job I have ever had, so it taught me how to balance my daily duties, without letting stress take over.

The most enjoyable part of my job was the recognition given to me by my borrowers.  I have always taken customer service very seriously and go out of my way to make each one of my customers feel that they are the only one I have.  Amerisave puts a lot of emphasis on receiving "Great" customer surveys.  I maintained a 100% average on my surveys and have stood out with exceptional customer write-ups (which I have exported and can provide, if needed).  No matter how challenging a loan might have been, it would make it all worth it to see the appreciation and sincerity given in a personalized survey by the borrower.  

Lastly, I was very pleased with my experience with my direct Manager.  She was always quick to respond with any questions that I might have had.  In addition, I could always let her know when I was ready for a new loan or if I was at a point where I didn't want to take any more loans.  I would have to say my only disappointment lies in the way that I was laid off this past Friday, 7/26/13, along with all remaining  Remote Processors.  We were requested to call in at 11am for a conference call and were told that we had until 4pm that day and then we would be deactivated.  I personally requested that I could at least complete any loans that were currently in my pipeline, but my request was denied.  This was very disappointing, since we did not receive a severance package and we only get paid for loans that have closed and funded and I had several loans that I had worked on for weeks and would now not receive any compensation for.  I strongly feel that Upper Management could have handled our lay off in a more humanistic approach.  

All in all, my experience with Amerisave was rewarding and I now look forward to a new chapter with a company that not only puts emphasis on customer service, but one that looks out for the needs and best interest for its employees.

I apologize for the long review, but it is worth a read as this is as honest a review as you will get about the company!

I started at AmeriSave back in August 2020 and was hired to be a  Mortgage Specialist (converted to Junior Underwriter later). Initially the job description said I would be working on income, assets, and liabilities in the mortgage process, but that never happened in my 7 months working. I was assigned to the payoff module, which did not resemble what I was hoping for in learning other areas of finance. Training was basically non-existent from the start and the videos that were available were not helpful. My team leads and managers did the best they could to help, but even they did not know stuff you would think they would know. I self-taught myself almost everything I came to know in order to be as successful as possible. I even bought myself a second monitor only to find out that they gave away some to new hires, but said they did not have any for me. The expectations were confusing at best and did not resemble what a executive management team should demonstrate as leaders. The workflow changed at least 5-7 times while I was there, meaning you were constantly trying to figure out new procedures before you could become adept at what you were previously using. I rotated through three team leads and two managers in the 7 months I was working, further leading to inconsistencies and lack of structure. My team leads/coworkers were awesome and great to work with, but seemed to be handcuffed by upper management. The software we used was buggy all the time and crashed often, even though IT claims it was fixed each time. They even overhauled the system once, but it still did not fix the problems. Zoom meetings were almost daily and sometimes multiple times a day, but they accomplished little if anything to help improve the culture, organization and process. Often times, they gave only 5-10 minutes warning before a meeting, so if you were at lunch or off that day, you would miss large portions without even knowing what was happening (at least 2 hour courtesy is professional)! Expectations were unrealistic or unattainable to meet in some situations since you were at the mercy of a take app button for loans and/or management placing rules not to take loans for days/weeks at a time. Eventually they let a huge amount of people go after only 1-2 months of working and continued to do this in waves. This was extremely unprofessional/unacceptable since they did not even get the proper time to understand the system well and were handcuffed by breakdowns and policy changes often. By December, mandatory OT was normal and continued for weeks after the holidays with no end in sight. We were finally able to learn new modules (none of which was income, assets, and liabilities as promised in the initial job description), but this only made the problem worse since we became more inefficient overtime with the lack of training and goals (we all specialized in one module initially and then were expected to work active loans with 4-5 modules suddenly). I enjoyed learning the new modules and continued to perform well, but realized the job was not for me and I resigned in February 2021. Culture and work/life balance are imperative anywhere you work and whatever career you have, and this organization displays the least respect to those things. I thought it would be good to get a perspective from someone that was not let go, but instead left voluntarily and on good terms. In writing this review a few weeks after the fact, I hope this brings more clarity and shines a light on what working here is really like and why you should be very careful if seeking a mortgage career here.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I worked here in a sales role and initially found the environment fast-paced with strong earning potential. However, over time, there were significant changes that made the role increasingly difficult to succeed in.

Advancement opportunities were presented but not followed through on. A promotion path was discussed with a timeline to revisit, but the opportunity was later pulled back and never materialized. This created confusion around career progression and expectations.

Role responsibilities also shifted away from core sales into more customer service-focused tasks. Along with this change, call volume was reduced and the compensation structure changed, significantly impacting overall earnings.

Despite being a strong performer, there was no clear reward system tied to performance. At the same time, expectations increased, including frequent script changes and strict compliance standards with very little margin for error.

A major challenge was the lack of actionable feedback. Compliance deductions were made without clear explanations, examples, or call reviews. Repeated attempts to understand what needed to be corrected did not result in specific guidance, making it difficult to improve or align with expectations.

For anyone considering this company, I would strongly recommend asking detailed questions about:

* how advancement opportunities are structured and documented
* how compensation and call volume may change over time
* how compliance is evaluated and whether real coaching is provided
* how often scripts and expectations are updated

There is potential here, but greater transparency, consistency, and follow-through would significantly improve the employee experience.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work Environment & Culture:

The work environment is highly structured and often feels heavily micromanaged, with frequent check-ins and close monitoring throughout the day. While accountability is important, the level of oversight can make it difficult to work independently or build confidence in decision-making.

One of the biggest challenges is the lack of actionable feedback, particularly around compliance. Deductions are made, but clear explanations, examples, or coaching on how to correct mistakes are not consistently provided. Requests for clarification or support are not always addressed, which makes it difficult to improve performance.

There have also been workforce reductions that occurred with limited communication or opportunity for employees to ask questions. This contributed to an overall sense of uncertainty.

The culture would benefit from stronger transparency, more consistent communication, and a more supportive approach to employee development.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical Day:

A typical day can feel uncertain, with ongoing changes and team adjustments creating a sense of instability. It is not uncommon to see colleagues removed from teams, which can make the environment feel unpredictable.

The day-to-day work is structured and performance-driven, but there is limited positive feedback, even when meeting or exceeding expectations. Most feedback tends to focus on what needs improvement, without clear recognition of what is being done well.

There have also been changes to benefits and overall compensation, which can impact morale and long-term confidence in the role.

Overall, the pace is fast, but the combination of limited feedback, frequent changes, and uncertainty can make it challenging to feel secure or fully supported.

Terrible experience! Led to believe the company is experiencing massive growth and there will be unlimited potential for advancement. Some of us were required to purchase our own work equipment as a job condition. (I put $1000 on my credit card, since I could not afford it but needed this job, and had to buy one of the only computer options available, since supply was extremely limited due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.) I later discovered that many (possibly most) new employees were supplied equipment. When I questioned AmeriSave by email, I was never given a reply (as was promised when new employees started to question), other than the outside recruiter reiterating that equipment had to be purchased as a condition of employment. This promoted a feeling of distrust for the company right off the bat, but I tried to keep an open mind. The beginning large group meetings felt like a big MLM convention - trying to energize people with the idea of large amounts of money to be made. (This promoted further distrust.) Benefits were poor (no 401k match). Training came from short videos and was extremely weak/limited. Most learning was on the job, yet questions were highly discouraged. We were not allowed to ask questions of teammates and did not get timely answers, if answered at all, when emailing the lead. We were supposed to rely on the AI system that is being developed, but it rarely generated a useful answer. Once the backlog of loan applications was reduced, a lot of employees were let go. Just over a week before I was let go, we were told by our director that though they did have to let some people go recently, we would have work and if we put in an honest day's work, we had nothing to worry about. That turned out not to be true. Many more people were let go this week and I am sure many more will be in the coming weeks. The pressure is enormous at this company, but expectations are not clear and there is no support to help employees do well. Incentives can be taken away or changed, which you may only find out about when you realize you didn't get the incentive pay promised. AmeriSave gives a pat response to these reviews, to which I say that I am not interested in emailing HR to share my experience. If these reviews were taken seriously, as AmeriSave asserts, they would have improved their employment practices by now.  I looked back at past reviews (2017 and 2019) that stated that AmeriSave hires when they get behind, but have no hesitation in letting workers go as soon as work is caught up, so there is clearly a pattern. This practice is highly unethical, but they seem to get away with it. I hope prospective employees (and customers) take note of all the poor reviews and stay far away!

I was hired to work as a Mortgage Specialist here during Covid-19. However the company hired so many people for the same position, that there was not enough for us to do as a collective. They decided to offer a new position to us all because of it and basically said that if we did not take the position we would be fired. I found that to be highly unorganized and unprofessional. Due to Covid I decided to try out the new position which was in sales. The sales position was sold to us. What do I mean by that? They sold us this idea that in this position we would be helping people who have already completed their applications to get their information into processing to close the loan, and once the loan closed we’d get a bonus. These bonuses would lead us up to about a six figure salary. Sounds easy right? Well that was not the case. Most of the callers we got had not filled out an application at all and basically we ended up calling people who were not ready to begin or did not want to speak with us. The training for this was decent, if we had actually had what they claimed we would have in terms of callers, but the calls I was expecting were not like what I got. The trainings consisted of zoom calls with about 70-150 participants which is too large. I struggled to have my questions answered because of the large group with one person running the call and little time to answer questions. Then we are on a zoom call for 8-9 hours a day. They also neglected to tell us everything it took to become a Loan Originator when they first said we could take this position or leave it. There’s 3 weeks of study on a zoom call, a 20 hour mandatory class and then you have to pass an exam with a 75 or higher to get your license and then get your license approved by states. I tried giving this position a chance but I started working and still feel like I am struggling and that those training me want me to go out and wing it because they have so many people to help that they can’t really help me enough. I don’t like that aspect at all! From the beginning as a mortgage specialist I was told I’d be doing one thing but didn’t actually end up doing that. After switching to a new position it was the same situation, I find it rather annoying to keep being told I will be doing something that in the live environment I will rarely be doing. The job pays decent despite that to work from home with little to know experience in mortgages. 

I have worked at Amerisave for a little over a month. The training program to help you pass the SAFE exam was excellent but as for everything after that I have been less than impressed. For starters I had to spend $1000 to get the set up they recommend and multiple times after that was encouraged to spend “just $100-$200 to invest in your career.” They tell you all leads are hot and prescreened, not true. They tell you you will get calls every 30 seconds, not true. They tell you when you first get on the phones that managers will be helping you the entire way through, not true. Training after you pass the exam is close to non existent. You’re on your own and it’s sink or swim even when you have absolutely no experience in the industry and no clue what you’re doing even though you’re handling people’s finances and writing and approving their MORTGAGES. It is very hard to even get a hold of managers or have them reply to you within the day let alone when you’re on a live call at a halt with a customer and you need a question answered immediately. We have a certain amount of hours that we are required to be on the phone or logged in waiting for a call on a system that goes down twice a day so there is mandatory overtime and you work most Saturdays. I have never been so hesitant to ask to clock out before I’ve worked 10 hours or request to not work a Saturday to attend a family party. I read reviews before starting the job here and just wondered if people weren’t willing to put in the work but I have been working my tail off my entire time here and there is simply no support to help you succeed and no way to learn in this environment. I often find myself getting emotional at night after a long day of being lost, overwhelmed, and struggling through an entire day to which taught me nothing and dreading waking up in the morning to get back into it because I know I will be on my own the entire day, overwhelmed and stressed trying to figure out what I am doing and attempting to assure that I am writing people’s loans correctly. Honestly my advice would be to go through the training to get your license and move to local lender where they will actually teach you how to write a clean loan, care about your success and actually care about and want to help your customers. You may make less at first but in the long run I could never see myself building a career here or starting/having a family while working here.

I have been a loan processor with Amerisave for nearly 4 years and have been a loan processor in the metro Atlanta area for 30 years and by far have found Amerisave to be at the top of any lenders I have been employeed with. The computer system for processing they have in place far exceeds what most think was the best (Mortgageware) and is so high tech it makes the ability to close a loan quickly very easy in a normal market... right now volume prevents that.. it's still easy to close loans however.. and when prepared and done right. If you are a processor that knows what you are doing and are confident in what you do this is the best place to be.
I would have never imagined in all my years as a loan processor that I could ever work from home.. here at Amerisave if you meet the benchmarks to do so, you can and that is a perk! The way the pay structure works you can control how much or how little you earn and I like that.. my incentive is to do a good job from start to finish, making it easier for me to get my loans closed to earn my per file income.. who as a processor and undestands how processing works would not love that! Another first in my career..
I like how processing is set up in team format and even working from home I have developed relationships within my team and it is helpful to be able to reach out to a teammate with help ... I am a team player and embrace other team players.
If you are a hard worker and maintan that pace the ability to make alot of money as a loan processor here is very attractive - I know this personally.
The only difficulty is underwriting can be a little bit tough, and sometimes not consistent throughout , but also to their defense their hands are tied in alot of cases.. but the good thing I have a team manager I can go to if I feel I legitamately have an argument that will go to bat for me.. if I am right.. sometimes I am not, a few times I am and we get resolution.. times are different now than they used to be in underwriting. We do have some great underwriters too however.
In summary however - if you are a good loan processor and understand the why of what is required and do a good job as a loan processor this is a great place to work for.

Working remote has its advantages- short commute, no dress code, spending time with your dog...... but, it's hard to build relationships with coworkers and managers, hone skills from watching others, and make yourself known to managers.  Being a Mortgage Loan Originator for this company isn't easy.  It's hard to make sales goals most days because rates went up and the "warm" leads are pretty cold. The days are long- 10-12 on average, 6 days per week.  Paid time off is pretty good, but most people say they don't ever take a vacation.  Out of pocket expenses vary dependent on which region you are hired into.  I had to provide my own computer, monitor, and head set where others were provided with theirs.  Their system is not MAC compatible, so if you hire in, prepare to purchase a desk set.  Initial training is good.  I passed the National SAFE exam easily.  Sales training via ZOOM was ok, but daily support is hit or miss.  You're assigned licenses based on company need, which I understand, but if you live on one coast, you could get assigned licenses in far away states where you have to deal with a 3 hour time zone change making it difficult to be successful unless you work until the wee hours of the night.  Calls are hit or miss.  Rates can change while customers are in the middle of signing documents and management rarely honors the loan pricing if it goes up.  It's a tough sell when that happens.  We were told one day that we could not leave until we hit five hours of actual talk time.  I stayed on the phone until nearly midnight and logged off in tears because after almost 15 hours of work, I didn't even meet that goal as calls just weren't coming in.  I like the work overall, as I enjoy helping people. I get great customer feedback, but management never broadcasts my five star reviews as they do for some other teammates.  I just struggle most days feeling isolated, tired, and trying to meet goal so I can get a two day weekend (hasn't happened yet).  I'm good with the pay.  Benefits are expensive.  I'm looking to jump ship though as I really need a better work life balance, and there is a constant threat of being fired as staff "disappear" frequently.  

Will hire anyone, with or without prior experience. Will pay for all training and licensing. Will start you off with a base pay, plus commission. Will require 40-45 hours per week, no weekends. Will tell you their #1 priority is employees. ALL OF THAT CHANGES after 6 months! Once you get good at your job, they take away your base pay and their commission structure is AWFUL. They pay way less than other lenders. They will now expect you to work 55+ hours, Mon-Fri, PLUS Saturday shifts, even though you didn't agree to it upon hire. Management is OK... Most times the managers are overwhelmed with their enormous teams so it may take 3+ days to get help on an issue. Meanwhile, borrowers are blowing you up looking for answers you cannot provide. Underwriting is the WORST. Loans will be approved right up until closing, then out of nowhere, the final underwriter will find 5 reasons why the loan can't be approved. There is horrible communication between underwriting and the loan officers and most processors have no idea what they're doing so they prove useless. Your managers will expect you to stay on front end all day, every day, cold calling to bring in new business and will hardly allow you to work on keeping your current loans above water. So, in many cases, loans fall apart and you ONLY GET PAID WHEN A LOAN FUNDS! They also have pay tiers that are ultimately excuses for the company to pay you less. For example, if a borrower starts online before speaking to you, you get paid less, even though you work just as hard. If a borrower comes from a certain lead source, you get paid less. LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT: You will be fired, without any notice, even if you're performing and producing! You will NOT be given the chance to improve. The company has a horrible reputation of doing massive layoffs every year and does not provide any reason for you being let go. So, there is NO JOB SECURITY. Get your experience here, then move on.
