Compensation is terrible for long-term employees. Turnover rate is awful and communication between employees is the bare minimum. I believe that if an employee has been a part of a company through the ups and downs including working with people acquiring an awful work ethic and those that quit randomly without notice should be recognized and be provided an incentive to stay with the company. The least they can do is compliment an employee for their hard work and their decision to continue to work for the company. The mandating policy is absurd.  If the next shift doesn't show up or calls in, you are mandated to stay. Upper management does not want to fill in the voided shifts because it is an inconvenience for them and expect you to figure it out. People have families, lives, and should not be expected to work an extra 8 hours when they have not been scheduled that shift. I am terrified to go to work my shift because I fear someone will not show up or will call in for the next shift.  This is highly unacceptable. The major downfall is that the company will hire new employees and pay them more than the long-term employees including myself because they are desperate for new employees to fill their voids. It is EXTREMELY frustrating because we bend over backward with our workload, work above and beyond and make sure that the residents get the BEST care possible.For working at this company a little more than 2 years, I do not get paid enough for what I do. I do not feel valued as an employee and I certainly do not feel that voicing my observations and ideas to better the residents are noticed as they should be. 

Why am I still working here? The fear of change and a new job is inevitable. I love the residents and the staff I work with minus the management. We have a great time and the shift goes much faster because we work together and have fun at the same time while providing the nurturing care that the residents deserve. I continue to apply other places every day. The commute is a benefit as well. I hope the management steps up their game and starts valuing their long-term employees as they should.

I enjoyed working as an assistant wellness director, but not with the wellness director. She showed me parts of different tasks, skipped around to different tasks and after asking almost daily for a list of daily duties in an appropriate order, was never given one. I had to figure out how to learn their computer program by myself.
I was told I was doing a great job until she got angry with me for not knowing how to do something she didn’t train me on, my 4th week.
Her paperwork was very organized but her teaching methods and personality were less than desirable if you didn’t catch on the very first time she rushed through something.

I really am impressed with the investment American House Bonita Springs is making to meet the needs of the residents and the community while developing its employees. I see every day new ways employees can learn their craft and improve the service provided to the residents. The Directors work with the employees to help them learn and grow in their positions. The Directors put the residents first and work with the staff to achieve the community goals. New activities, menus, and excursions are being planned so AHBS residents have new exciting opportunities to participate in the AH family. Employees who don't want to be successful or contribute to residents' well-being may not like it, because there are standards and expectations, but for those who like to learn and work in a culture of caring and growth, there are opportunities at American House. Wages are slowly increasing and all need to realize that the cost of living is a challenge right now. American House is working to take care of the employees so that everyone is treated with dignity in their role.

Toxic. Unprofessional. Lack of adequate training. This place is utterly ridiculous. Residents upset with services and the closed door atmosphere from management (if they’re even there) family members at wits end with continued billing issues and countless other unanswered questions. The work life is even worse. From being treated with little to no respect, having management literally bury you with endless computer tasks, stand up meetings, team meetings, and all the administrative side of your dept and oh yeah you gotta cook too somewhere in all that. And by the way let’s not train anyone to be competent in operating the plethora of systems required to be successful at the position. Yet upper management can drop the ball constantly and NEVER be held accountable. If you are looking for a career that pays well that nurtures good employees to become better and more proficient, that truly has a team atmosphere willing to lend a helping hand a professional environment where people grow and prosper. Avoid East 1 campus at all costs, the amount of stress and BS and the nepotism is absolutely not worth a moment of your time. 

The executive management staff encourages staff to lie to residents. Residents have had to start numerous petitions to get results regarding issues within the building. No support from regional management either. Very little training yet quick with write-ups when mistakes are made. There is NO room for error in this building. The job expectations are unrealistic-I was hired for 40 hours per week but to complete the expected duties I could easily have worked 60 hours! There have been 6 people quit/fired from this position in 6 years. One would think that regional management would explore why there is such a high rate of turn over for this position. The pay is competitive, but the benefits are not.  Paid time off is not earned until a year after date of hire. If you thrive in a high stress environment, this may be the location for you! If you thrive in a positive, supportive environment where employees are valued, look elsewhere!

If you love working with the elderly, then this job is for you. You get to be one on one with them, and get to know them individually. The pay is minimum wage, unless you are in a management position. American House also expects you to uphold a beautiful reputation, in all that you do while working there. If another staff member needs help you help them. If the senior's need help you do that as well. This place does require you to work weekends as well. They have decent benefits of insurance and 401 k's and if you wish you can even support the American House Foundation with some of the money you make. There is not much room for advancement here, unless someone leaves in a higher position, so whatever position you have, is what you will be stuck with. American house tends to hire more female staff then male, as they want to uphold virtue, kindness and compassion. You will be required to do a lot of work, and then some. Also at times you will get covered with body fluids. The management here is okay, but they are kind of stuck up.

Working in kitchen is horrible, everyone quits everyday… people will talk so much about you behind your back and treat you like nothing to your face, people will favorite others over others. When random ppl take on a management position they change, act rude and  unprofessional bc of there job status they didn’t deserve or don’t know how to handle at all. Overall I rate this work environment and the kitchen department a 0/10 especially since the best director quit due to all the horrible things better opportunities. Residents are a 10/10 and other coworkers in the facility are a 2/10 don’t trust anyone there. Whole place will never change and has been this way for a while. Everyone quits and doesn’t want to work here it’s a horrible job experience for some great people who look for a long term career. 

The managers are too buddy buddy with some of their employees. Some managers actually hang out with the employees in their inner circle. If you aren't in their clique then they barely talk with you unless it's close to business. It doesn't cause you feel like one of the team members. The Training was horrible, when attempted to address the manager refused to explain and would ignore you and play on their phone, The Management took advantage of their authority and instead would belittle you as person, Also would go out of the way to make it look like others were not performing their duties. Communication was extremely horrible for it is a senior living community. It was one of my worst working experience, I went away with tears in my eyes on more than one occasion. The only good character was the residents and staff outside the office.

Knowing that you are providing someone the care that they cannot do on their own daily is rewarding.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The corporate is unorganized and not involved with the actual staff to provide adequate information and requirements of supply and quality of care and involvement is nonexistent 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is definitely groups in the employees that form depending on the department and sometimes they don't perform well together due to lack of training and management oversight  or presence 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work in food kitchen which is very strained because our location has 5 different buildings to serve three meals a day so it's always time management and difficulty of having the items u need and a lack of consideration of this strains the staff due to the extra effort this causes

Typical day you will be assigned to a floor where sometimes not even a nurse will be available (because there’s usually just one for the entire area). I didn’t learn more than what I brought to the job. I expected the facility to be a lot more professional but it felt like a public high school. 

Management is very finicky and prioritize the wrong things. People who genuinely care about the patients often get fired for advocating. Management just cares if you work seven days a week nonstop but not the safety of the population. mandatory reporters tend to get strong armed out of the job (if you see something shut up, basically) and you will be nitpicked until you quit if you complain or point out a policy violation. 

Also if you get a tardy you’ll be on an instant final now. Seen a lot of good folks get let go because of this new rule.
