—The DOR at my building was ok, but the other management in my building were toxic and patronizing to the staff, which resulted in high turn-over in nursing.
—Because of the toxicity and high turn over, it was difficult to get things done for our residents. 
—It would not help to report this to a corporate hotline, because corporate was frequently in our building and well aware of the turnover and complaints about nursing management. They turned a blind eye because they couldn’t afford to get rid of any RNs. 

As far as therapy, literally go to work at any other company. It will be better, don’t waste your time here. 
—All therapists get cheap, junky, tiny touch-screen tablets to document reports on, which always glitch. Documentation on a touch screen is very inefficient. 
—ASC uses real-time start-stop timers to time therapy sessions with each resident, which results in more work than what it’s worth. Every time the internet is lost or the tablet glitches, you are required to fill out paperwork. 
—Paid time off is laughable. It is accrued at a very slow rate… for me, I think it was 3 hours per pay period, which is every two weeks. So approximately 6 hours accrued per month. 
—Benefits sucked. No 401k match. 
—Hourly pay was average, not particularly competitive, especially given the terrible PTO and benefits. 
—You are many times required to work weekends as a registered therapist to complete evaluations for residents with particular payors. 
—If you do not have an assistant working with you at your building, be prepared to work 6 days a week consistently. 
—You are required to see residents who are actively Covid positive. 
—Productivity standards rose about 3 times over the course of time that I worked there. —If productivity is not met, be prepared to fill out paperwork as to why. Be prepared for lectures on productivity, and being pushed to do groups and concurrents even when not clinically indicated. 
—The burn out is real. DOR knows but can’t do anything about it. Corporate knows, but they just care about money, not the individuals who work for them. 
—Nursing, housekeeping, and culinary staff get bonuses for attendance and picking up weekends. Especially nursing. Never therapy. We were “held to a higher standard.”
—ASC isn’t 100% bad, but the things which were not totally negative about ASC are not unique to ASC ( job security and fulfilling work helping residents). You are better off with another company. 

I was a night shift staff nurse. This was also a very fast paced environment. AS soon as I got there, I & another nurse counted medications. I than began to pass meds to the residents that needed meds before their supper meal. I then took VS & did assessments on each of my 25 patientson my wing. I then began to give my first round of meds, sometimes having to chase them down in the dining room or physical therapy. I set up tube feedings for those needing it. I tried to do some dressing care on some of the patients. By then it was time to pass a second round of medications & to assist the other patient care staff in bathing & bedtime care. I then finished up dressing & treatment care. I took off orders for that day & charted everything about each of the residents, according to facility, state, & federal requirements. The facility had just started a new computer charting system. The co-workers were great people to work with, as they always helped each other out. I worked with some very knowlegable staff that were not RN's & learned much about long-term care from them.There was much to be done in an 8 hour shift, with the limited staff they employed. Documentation took the longest, as everthing had to be charted daily, even if there were no changes. Much of the documenting was double & triple charted. Much of it was redundant. Sometimes I felt that management prioritized the documenting before the care of the residents. It also took away from bedside care. I would have liked to have stayed in long-term/hospice care, but because of the minimal staffing & the overwhelming needs of the residents, I felt that I could not give the kind of care the patients needed, or the kind of care the facility demanded. I can honestly say that while I was there I enjoyed my job.

Its a great place to wrk i enjoy the employees and also the benefits. its one of the best places iv worked at since iv became a CNA. great place to work for brand new aids as well. someone is always coming up with new ideas on how to make the are work day better as well as the residents we care for. Nice dinning room experience. we also include the family members in the activities . iv been an employee for fours years and iv learned and grained so much experience while working in this filed due meeting new people almost everyday iv seen so many different personalities im a peoples person and i love meeting new people. its a wonderful place to work i also train new comers and i like to teach them what i have learned being a CNA for ten years . It can be challenging at sometimes but that at any job i like what i do so i make the best of it everyday trying to do my best great company to work for if you looking for great pay benefits  and a family type environment this company is for you. They also have other program to move you forward if you are looking for a stable career in the nursing filed that what i like the most usually theirs no where to go unless you went back to a major college here we have different programs for you.We take care of each other looking out for one a other many of us have been there since the doors opened so we'v known each other for years and not just in the work settings but out too. we care about each other like brother and sisters mothers and fathers its a community really we help each other its a team working together to better the care of others is the number one goals and it shows and are work taking care of others just like one day someone will take care of me i put my feet and other shoes because we get to leave at the end of the night we are guest in their home so we must behave as if we are guest.

I would go in and help residents with personal hygeine, such as showers, washing up, brushing teeth, combing hair, putting on make-up, shaving, and getting dressed. I would then start getting everyone down to breakfast. While I have residents that are having breakfast I would then check on all my late comers who dont like getting up early and see if they are ready to begin their day and eat breakfast. I then complete showers and go to dining hall to take residents back to their desired areas after their breakfast is completed. I will then make a another round to check on individuals who are my responsibility, I also in between taking care of my list of individuals will without fail run into other residents that need things, and I never turn anyone away so my day on a typical day for me I would be running around doing whatever needs to be done from going to get ice, taking breakfast and lunch to a resident, taking residents to and from the salon or other functions, escorting residents to doctors appointments, changing bedding, washing clothing, help change clothes, and taking residents outdoors. Becoming attached to my residents and they must leave or their nolonger there for whatever reason would have to be the hardest part of the job. You grow to expect to take care of them everyday and I found great joy in doing that and the pay didn't matter because I was doing what I loved. The hardest part is management not understanding the repor that I have built with each and everyone of the patients and the time and effort that I put into my work. I liked some of my co-workers very much. Those that I didn't care much for we got along and did our jobs.

I was an employee for 10 years.. Never called in never received a write up. I loved every thing about my job and residents. I truly cared about what I did, my work ethic, and the residents. Toward the end of my employment a new manager was hired. Instantly I felt like I was being attacked and set up for failure. I reached out to corporate before things got too out of control hoping they would hear my concerns for the saftey of the residents and the circumstances we were forced to work under. My voice was not heard. They did not care how long I was an employee or how much dedication I put into my job. Trying to save myself backfired and not even a month after my complaint was made I was fired. The reason I was fired did not hold up in unemployment court and it was found that I was fired in retaliation. It saddens me that my corporate office did not even bother to look into this and they let it happen. I feel very betrayed that I gave a solid 10 years of work just to be thrown out like a rat! It was not me that was the problem, it was this uncertified woman they allowed to manage this department. I hope no one else has to go thru this! I am still bothered by it daily. Not only was I terminated but my name was completely tarnished. I wish I would have broadened my career field. Having 10 years experiance in only one field doesn't get you too far in real life. I guess I never thought about it before termination because this was never a temporary job for me! I planned on working with this company until I could no longer work anymore.. Until they hired a devilish hateful woman who shattered my dreams. Please do not invest a long amount of time with this company and end up like me!

They're very unprofessional at this facility people above you are very rude when talking to you and or if they hold a meeting which is rare the DON likes to talk AT you as if you were a dumb dog or child which I did not appreciate. You will have an unsteady schedule as far as specific hall you'll work and very late schedule changes.They short staff alllllll the time !! Especially night shift, day and evening shift gets all the help in the world 3-4 aids a hall when night shift can barely get a person from another hall to help. Charge nurses are suppose to help you when no one is on the hall with you which 99.9% of the time is always unless you have one of the two pretty nice nurses out of many that work there which are "P" & "N" you'll find out if you decide to work there.Orrrr if you're lucky to work on the Dementia Unit (C-Hall) 9/10 you'l have a partner to help you because they're active. Most CNA's don't do their job they disappear on shifts and come back when it's time to be relieved. DON picks and chooses who to stay and let go they have a point system and so many points will equal to termination. I will tell you now that there are people with up to 80pts and counting and still employed like they've done their work to a T. So if you're lucky like them hats off to you, if ever to work under ASC don't waste your time here choose one of very many other locations. There's so much more that goes on in this facility but too much too type.

Productivity is decent at 85-87% for supervising therapists, however constant pressure to concurrent/group even when notes are due. The DOTs I have encountered are pretty understanding, however they are often overworked themselves as they cover 2 buildings and get pressure from upper management. I feel like upper management has no clue what it’s like to be a treating therapist and continue to make/push unrealistic expectations. I was hired in at a higher rate for working a weekend schedule. A month later all weekend therapist received a pay cut due to lowering (and totally removing for some) the weekend pay incentive. They often implement bonuses for nursing staff (such as bonus each pay period for perfect attendance) but exclude all therapy staff. Medical insurance is pretty good and cheap. PTO is on the low end and they remove it if you do not want to travel to another building that needs coverage. You do get paid for travel time and mileage between buildings.  They do try their best to get you at least 30 hours/week if your building census is low, which adds some stability. However you are never allowed to go into overtime. After they laid off a good percentage of their therapy staff in the middle of COVID they are now hiring back supervising therapists to cover 2 buildings where there used to be at least 1 supervising therapist per building. 

I was fortunate enough to have been recruited and hired by American Senior Communities (ASC) several years ago.  ASC is driven to provide quality care for seniors and those in need of physical rehabilitation throughout the entire state of Indiana and northern Kentucky.  I currently work directly with Case Managers and physicians at several local hospitals in the northern Indiana area.  Through my daily interactions, I have had the opportunity to build strong relationships with community members, local hospital staff and the staff at ASC's extended care facilities.  A normal day includes visiting local hospitals and assessing those in need of rehabilitation and/or long-term care.  The work environment is fast paced and requires a great deal of clinical knowledge, organization, communication and time management skills.  The work culture at ASC has afforded me a great deal of autonomy, and I feel entrusted to work without the need for close supervision.  Sometimes the hardest part of the job is the struggle to place patients in the proper facilities and ensure that all parties come together for the good of the patient. The most enjoyable part of the job is working on a daily basis with hospital staff, in addition to the patients and their families, in order to bring them all together to provide quality care.  At the end of the day, I have found my time spent working with these groups of people to be quite fulfilling and very rewarding.

Had 6 DONs in two years; management staff was consistently unstable with a lack of communication; great floor staff who tried hard to provide good care and emotional support to residents and families but lacked leadership direction; new company took over in July 2015; have hope based on the new company's values and organization that the facility will truly improve its operations; chose not to continue with company due to temporary management's lack of encouragement and honest review of each managers productivity; would have appreciated the opportunity to meet with new management to discuss the history of facility and the reasons for the instability and deficiencies within the facility - instead any one who was in management was lumped into a "to blame" category without regards to what the manager had endured while waiting for the new company.

ASC might be fine and dandy for non-clinical work positions, like maintenance, dietary, or reception, but if you work in a clinical field such as nursing or therapy, I recommend running in the opposite direction. The job security is fine, but it job security for these positions is fine everywhere.  Hourly rate is fine, especially if they’re desperate at the location. BUT... these are SOME of the things that make it totally unworth it in my opinion: The lack of work-life balance for clinical positions (long hours with little time off), unreasonably high productivity standards for therapy, poor job culture from corporate down (lack of trust the company has for employees, constant micro-managing, lack of accountability, terrible lack of corporate communication and organization. The right hand never knows what the left hand is doing), virtually non-existent benefits packages (no 401k matching, horrible policy for time off, insurance packages are sad). If you don’t care about working long hours, if don’t need good insurance, if you have a very resilient personality, and operate like a human machine that doesn’t get tired, make mistakes, or have feelings, maybe ASC would be ok for you.
